《Hidden》Chapter 89

It wasn't long before the first few dragons came flying over to the girl, each ready to stop a potential threat to the human that called them. People were confused when they saw the large dragon gathering and immediately got closer; only to spot Emma at the wrong time and getting themselves flung across the yard by a dragons tail. The girl wasted no time in opening the book to look at the first page, a very detailed sketch of a reborn on the page; it's twig-like arms, sunken eyes, and beetle black skin was sending a small chill run up her spine, like the cold hand of death himself.
'Reborns'
The aged text showed no signs of ever being destroyed, the black ink shining on the crisp white paper like it was just printed. Emma carefully stared at the one word that was delicately written on the page, the font almost unreadable due to its complexity.
"Damn, I don't speak cursive. I hope the whole book isn't written like this." Emma chuckled at her own joke, and she took one last glance above the cover to check on the gathering dragons. The scaly creatures laid in a defensive oval around the girl, granting some temporary peace until she finished the secrets of the paper in front of her. She could feel the riders faint calls to their dragons that say in the way, but Emma's hold was stronger, forcing the dragons to ignore their riders and keep them out. The dragons that could not fit on the ground instead took to the skies, watching to see if their help was needed. Emma lingered her eyes on a particular white and yellow dragon that nearly reminded herself of an old friend, one that constantly tortured her even if she never knew about them in her life.

With the fight of holding back tears won, Emma let her mind carry to the book, her eyes picturing the author writing the book with his cursive writing.
That is, if the author was a he.
Not thinking twice, the words began for form into sentences, and those began to form paragraphs that carried the secrets.
To my descendents.
If you've unlocked this book, the world had become infested with the curse.
Only the blood of the reborn is the key to the solution, but you already know that, don't you?
The reborns have been around after the legend of the ten blessed mages, the ones that had freed the white Dragon from the clutches of death.
After magic was introduced into human blood, the white Dragon watched them carefully, knowing that human curiosity was a dangerous thing to have, especially given such a powerful tool.
One day, when the white Dragon let her guard down, and seemed to miss one foolish mistake that sparked a never ending war.
A boy, the second generation of talented water mages, had grown jealous of his brothers fire magic and it's capability to destroy and eat anything in its path; so he followed what the white dragon has done, forcing his older brother to share his blood.
This is what created the first reborn.
He was smart, draining his brother of every last drop of blood before he fled, and that's where a dark creature had emerged, one as old as time itself, feared by it's own creator's.
This creature does not have a name, but he whispered temptations into the boys ear, letting him make an offer. You see, with this creature, a simple acceptance of it's possesion can make you it's prisoner, and it took the boy's power lust and turned him into his puppet.

I regretted agreeing to his words.
After killing my beloved bonded dragon, I knew my last line of defence was gone. I write this as the cold creature tears the last of my humanity away. He plans on killing one mage of each element and drain them of their blood; using their magic to build himself up in the world. I regret ever slicing my brothers wrist open and letting my lips touch his blood, but the magic inside was nothing compared to my foolish mind, I wish to take back all of my actions and shove them into a box. It whispers in my head, telling me to let go and become one with it, to let it show me it's power, but I'm not as stupid as it thinks I am, and it knows there is one way to stop it's reign.
You see, after I had taken that first drop of blood, I knew that the white dragon had also taken a host, one that's line would be preserved until they were finally ready to destroy my army. The solution is one I cannot write in this book; for I risk revealing that to the one who wishes to destroy the world I know, but there is a hint in the history books locked away in the halls of time, it's pages constantly filled with the newest acts in history.
I feel myself slipping, I must send my father out with the lock to hide the book, he doesn't tell me where, and I think it's for the best, for I feel the creatures anger well up iside me as if it's my own.
I know it's too late to save myself, my selfishness did that, and I can only hope that when I'm finally killed, that my brother can forgive me as a ride to the next world.
The rest of the pages were empty, devoid of life or any signs of text. It took the girl a few reads to process the information, but when she was done with the book, the words were practically engrained in her head.
This man was the host of the leader of reborns, he was the voice she constantly heard in her head, tempting with powers that she lacked.
'It's a shame really, those used to be my words, but I'm so glad I took his offer.' the voice crackled, but she could sense the fear in his voice, she found his weakness, all she needed now was to find out were the weapon is.
'Lies.'
I'm coming for you, I'll find the weapon and destroy you.'
