《Hidden》Chapter 82

The boy with red hair was treating is injuries when he watched as Emma stared at the book with admiration. He couldn't deny the whispering in his mind whenever he touched the book, and maybe that's what had drawn the girl to it's magnificent secrets.
He had taken the book because of its possible power. Sure, maybe he had stolen it for his own gain, but after struggling with the same lock for a whole week, he couldn't help but be tempted to throw it out a window. Emma had put the book down after checking for any possible damage, her grey eyes flashing as she looked at the boy.
"Explain why you took it." She said. The boy swallowed some excess saliva, white eyes darting around the room to keep his gaze off the menacing girl.
Was this how he would die?
"My grandfather." He began with a hoarse tone. He cleared it, speaking again. "My grandfather has books of mythology, and I saw this book described in one of the pages. I thought maybe I could open the book and harness the magic it's supposed to have, so I began searching."
He looked around and saw the new shock in the girls eyes, she wasn't looking at the book anymore, but instead the emerald green Crystal that laid next to her on the far end of the table. The boys breath hitched, his mind scattered all over the place as the thoughts of his necklace being taken made his blood boil. In fact, this girl and her judging attitude was pissibf him off even more. He glanced at the girl, her grey eyes locked on the jewel.
"I never knew a grey eyes would be here, I thought they had all died out." He said with malace. Emma had refocused her eyes on the boy, studying him and his actions. Her breathing was controlled, as her eyes seemed glazed like she was somewhere else, buried deep into her thoughts.

The stuffy air in the room was making the tension thick, and the boy mentally face palmed at his lack of attention to not open it. The dark oak wood pillars were the only thing keeping up the ceiling from crashing down on everyone, so he had to be careful if he was to do anything.
"What can I say? I'm the last of my kind." The girl responded. Her hand moved over to grab the jewel, and then the boy had moved, dashing across the room to snatch the jewel first. His fingers had just grazed the covering of the jewel when something came crashing though the window. Crisp black limbs tumbled through the falling glass, blood red eyes piercing the soul of any that dared to look at it.
Emma shrieked, tightly grabbing the book and running out the door, leaving the boy behind with the creature that was feared by his small home. He only heard the description of the beasts appearance from the frightened civilians that made it out of the northern academy, their tales of large creatures that could bring down a large Dragon unbelievable. Yet there it was, standing in front of him with calculating eyes.
He froze in fear, losing his breath caught in his throat. He backed up to the door, trying to find the handle to escape the room. The creature noticed this, and gave a wide grin, saliva dripping from its mouth in hunger. It quickly extended its claws to grab the boy, but he yanked the door open in replacement for his body. The reborn's claws dug into the wood of the door and ripped it of the hinges, gurgling in annoyance as it struggled to get the door off its claws.
The boy wasted no time in running, watching as the brunette had just turned a corner to escape. Not looking behind him, the red head headed into another room, where he unlatched the window and crawled out.

Now outside, he could see that the wall that was being created was knocked down, the weakest points being chipped away. He cursed, watching as the reborn's began chasing people like a cat, grinning with skin like a beetles shell.
The boy called for his dragon, sensing her presence nearby. The boy pressed his body to the building he called home, a sense of fake safety washing over him, as if the wall could keep him hidden from the devilish eyes of the reborns.
The dragons call thundered in the sky, reborns looking up to see the creature threatening their dominance. The boy's silver dragon came flying down the sky with snow-white wings, it's long snake like body elegantly moving in the sky. It only took seconds for the boy to clamber onto his dragons back, his tears of relief spilling into his cheeks and caressing his dragons scales.
He never knew what had happened, his mind a sorrowful blur, but suddenly a terrible pain racked through the boys back, his dragon screeching in pain. A reborn was sinking it's dirty claws into the scales of the dragons tail, teeth gnawing the dragons natural armour lose.
The boy directed his hand towards the reborn, a harsh light collecting in his palm. The light then shot out in a thin line, piercing through the body of the creature. The blood from the reborn bubbled from its throat, eyes burning with fury as it's grip losened from the dragons tail, but not quite letting go. The boy cursed, feeling his magic reserves dwindle as he attempted to shoot another blast from his palm, but he only managed to muster up a pitiful spark that burst with no effect. The reborn took the opportunity to leap further into the dragon, time seeming to slow as it's body flew farther in the air.
The reborn would have completely torn apart the boy, if it wasn't for the ruby red dragon sinking his claws in the body of the reborn and tearing it out of it's graceful leap in the sky. Joel shoved the reborn back into the ground, sending some scorching blue flames to permanently scar the creature.
The boy didn't look back as he retreated further into the city.

Apex Immortal: a LitRPG system rampage
"Across the multiverse where the contest for power is the only constant, only a handful have succeeded in reaching the ultimate heights of ascendency and gained the title Apex Immortal. Dominus is one of them, unsurpassed in overwhelming violence, feared across universes. Now, memories locked and stranded far away from everything he’d built, Dominus will face enemies that will challenge even his powers and discover that change is more difficult than destruction." I’ve been writing fiction on and off for the last decade and I’ve always wondered how a peak immortal (or an OP superhero) would single handedly conquer a world that mirrors our own in all of its complexity. As a politics nerd, this is my attempt at answering that question using Machiavelli’s “The Prince” as the primary playbook. The “monsters” are entire political systems with entrenched culture. Expect many versions of real world political systems (and cultures) to be on the hit list. The MC has to successfully institute regime and cultural change without engaging in wholesale genocide and causing the state to fail. Expect things to go wrong pretty quickly as escalating and cascading political and economic effects rapidly go out of control. Methods deployed are not for the faint hearted.
