《Hidden》Chapter 72

....fifty nine.....one hour.
The girls internal clock was the only thing keeping her from falling asleep on the now warm hay. The two males had dozed off as soon as they touched their dragons, and their healing was remarkable; their magic aura growing at inhuman speeds. But that's what a close bond to a dragon did, it made your abilities and magic strengthen.
Emma got up from her spot, waking Aqua from her light sleep. The blue dragon was in edge, her large ears picking up on the noise outside the wall. The creatures weren't making a direct attack like most expected, and it was keeping many on edge. Aqua nudged David with her nose, but the male refused to budge, groaning as he cursed quietly. The blue dragon smirked as she extended her skin tail to David's leg, whipping his thigh and making him yelp. Emma let out a laugh and Aqua chuckled herself, tearing up as David rubbed his leg.
"Some days I question if I can trust women anymore." David said while looking at Aqua. The Dragon laughed harder, waking up Comet and the Headmaster from there sleep.
"We only beat the stubborn mages, now, we have to go going to the academy." Emma said while helping the headmaster up from his spot. The man crawled on Comet while half sleeping, Emma crawling behind him on Comet's bare back. The dragons scales were smooth to the touch, a comforting warmth coming from each and every individual scale.
The headmaster dozed off again, forcing Emma to sit in front of him to make sure that the man didn't fall off. The headmasters face was a peaceful one, if you didn't account for his drool coming out if his mouth. David crawled on Aqua and got adjusted to her bare back.

Comet slipped through the door, looking out at the partially abandoned city.
It was a mess; abandoned fire pits and doors of houses ripped open in desperation. Comet waited for David and Aqua to squeeze out of the shed, the pair prepared to start flying. Aqua took off first, her feathered wings adjusting to the new weightless flight. Comet followed closely, adjusting to the new lack of weight loss from the absent saddle. The headmaster chuckled and patted his Dragon on the back, soothing the large Dragon. Comet took the lead, heading directly South to reach the central academy.
When Emma looked down, she cursed, watching people leak into chaos.
"It's like watching a cliche film where everyone looses their common sense." Emma said slightly disappointed. Flying over the wall was not great scene either, many took their lives or sacrificed themselves to the creatures, each and every limb torn apart from the torsos. Blood covered the grass in a splash of colors, old and fresh blood everywhere. Dragons bodies also laid scattered, their eyes filled with pain as they were quickly driven to madness and forced to end their lives as a result to end the pain.
Or so was the theory.
The creatures were fairing much better, their numbers seeming to have grown larger than the last time they attacked the academy. The large school was still packed with the creatures, endlessly searching for something or just being curious as a bee. But whatever they were doing, they were slowly breaking down the building with their crowded weight. Some of the creatures acknowledged Aqua, but their eyes were mostly locked onto Comet, the previous red eyes that belonged to one creature was shining in the mass, it's body huge in comparison to it's fellow bretherin.
The smaller creatures had black beady eyes, a shadow of the light that was to be never seen. Comet flew with great speed, glancing nervously at the monsters that lurked below. Emma raised an eyebrow, getting tired of calling them monsters or creatures. The creatures needed a name for their infectious disease of a war, something that she could easily recognize and not confuse them with something else.

"Have any idea what to call these things? I can't stand calling them monsters anymore." Emma stated out loud. David shook his head, offering a small name of 'children of fucking hell' But the name was quickly dismissed for it was too long.
"How about Peter? They sure do like to destroy things like him." The man joked. David had a good laugh as the name, but they all knew it wouldn't work. After pondering a few names and suggesting them, they all have up on trying to find the perfect name, that was until the friendly voice decided to make itself once again known in her head.
Emma shouted at the voice, her scream heard by David and Aqua who quickly flew back to check on the girl.
"You all good Emma?" The headmaster said as he patted the girls back. He watched at the grey eyed girl caressed her head with her hands, her face scrunched up and trying to focus. She needed to tell them, of not now, then when? On her death bed?
"T- the voice,-" She breathed, feeling as the evil voice was trying to wrap it's filthy hands around her head. It didn't like the idea of her sharing its presence with others, and tried to persuade the girl with pain. The headmaster had his hands planted on the girls immediately, using his light magic to temporarily dispel the evil lurking in her mind.
"It's a voice I heard since I was a child, taunting me and telling me things that scared me. I've learned to ignore it, but lately it's been taking more....aggressive approaches." Emma confessed, looking away from the men. She knew she would look insane, after all, hearing voices was not normal for Dragon riders.
"Emma, since how long has it been taking to you?" The headmaster gave the most frightened face he had ever made in years, watching the girl as she revealed her life long secret.
"Ever since I lost-" Aqua collided with a other Dragon before Emma could finish.

Crimson Gloom
Crimson Gloom. The time when the moon turns crimson, illuminating the landscape with its crimson glow. The time when the ‘doors’ to the Crimson Abyss open. One shall gaze into the abyss and gain its secrets and powers. Concurrently, the abyss also gazes into oneself, gaining one’s sanity and humanity. Dimensional rifts appeared spontaneously on Earth, bringing otherworldly demons along with the Crimson Gloom. Bloody battles were fought, noble sacrifices were made. Humans eventually sealed the rifts and successfully defended their homeworld. Alas, the seals were not perfect. The Crimson Abyss continued to exist, slowly influencing Earth and its inhabitants. Half a century of relatively uneventful years passed… humanity slowly descended into corruption, and the majority of them knew nothing of the effects of the Crimson Abyss. Is there only the dreadful gloom left to the world? Can one find brightness in the increasingly gloomy world? The youth who had gazed into the Crimson Abyss had no answer, nor did he care. He only wanted the Crimson Gloom to end, to forever seal the Crimson Abyss. A mistake and a twist of fate led the youth into a seemingly totally different direction. Will he forget his lifelong goal? Will he instead step back onto his initial path that he fervently pursued? Disclaimer: I do not own the image on the cover. Image edited on canva.com.
