《Hidden》Chapter 29

It was noon when David left the cavern with Aqua, and at that time he knew if he went home he probably wouldn't make it out of his mother's scodlings unharmed.

Lying on the shore, trying to dry his clothes off, David looked at the clouds, trying to make out the random shapes into animals.

"I think it's time to head to the town, but we have to keep a low profile, because there's people who will take you away from me" David tried to explain. However, Aqua just tilted her head, confused.

'Of course she doesn't understand me.' He thought. He tried motion gestures, playing a little peek-a-boo game, but that just made the little Dragon nip at David's fingers.

He let out a sigh of frustration, knowing that the chance of being caught were high.

"Guess we'll just have to hope for the best." He got up, and the baby Dragon clawed at him, it's litle Sharp claws digging into his skin.

He let out an 'ouch' and shooed the dragon off him. The light blue reptile walked beside him, it's head just reaching David's waist.

They walked for hours, only stopping at rivers to drink and attempt to catch fish. They ended up eating crayfish cooked by the little dragons boiling water breath.

As they walked, David would Always jump at the slightest sound of a twig snapping or a bird chirping. He was afraid his mother would find him, and catch his new Dragon.

Everyone knew about Dragon riders, and once his mother had told him about how his father used to be one until he left the family. That's when his mother became the phycopath she was now. Jealousy played with peoples hearts, and made them so selfish things.

David's legs began to ache, and the little Dragon was squaking in protest, begging David to stop. They eventually did find a place to rest for the night.

High in a tree, the two small children curled up in a hollow. Of course, amgry hoots of anger from the owl that lives there had bothered them for a while, that was until the bird left to hunt for itself.

That night, David heard his mother calling his name. He was petrified, and his new Dragon was doing the best it could to calm him down. And It worked, and as his mother yelled his name in the middle of the night, David was able to keep calm by stroking his dragons light-blue scales.

He fell asleep after his mother's voice faded out, and he finally, for once in his life, had a dream of something that came out of a world of milk, and honey.

But when he awoke, Aqua was gone.

They were close to the village, and if anyone had saw Aqua they were sure to be doomed. David jumped out of the tree, careful not to land on anything sharp, and ran through the forest, franically calling for his Dragon while listening for any movement.

When he reached the edge of the forest he collapsed in pain. His side was bruised and he felt weak. This was from the Dragon bond. Something, or someone had hit his dragon, and David was receiving half of the pain. He groaned, and let his heart lead him.

He was running to the small town, brick houses were crumbling from the poor matnince and smoke from cigarettes and pipes hung in the air. David covered his mouth with his long sleeve, trying to filter out the burnt plants smoke.

No one was on the streets, but rather crowded at the towns center.

The little boy couldn't get past the crowd to see what the commotion was about, so he scanned his surroundings.

He used to read one particular story where the Prince climbed the hair of a princess to get up a high tower, and that sparked an idea in the little boys head.

He looked at a side of a house as the tower, and the rain gutter as the hair.

Although it wasn't soft, David continued to climb up the side of the house, the gutter creaking from his weight.

He reached the top of the house, and sure enough rats scattered along the roof, scrambling to get away.

He ran along to wet roof, careful not the slip or get too close to the edge. When her reached the other side of the house, he leadped over the gap and just barely managed to grab onto the next house.

He stood on top of the house, the scene below him making his blood broil.

Standing at the center of the mob, was David's mother, yelling random curses and slurs to his Dragon.

"I found this little Dragon with my son's dead body, picking at his bones like a vulture to a carcass. It ate my little boy, and now we will give it a punishment it deserves."

His mother lit a match along to stone of the plaza, the warm light glowing through the shadows of the stormy clouds threatening to pour rain.

David's mother lit a torchamd threw the match onto the ground, the small flame dying out as it ate the remainder of its fuel.

"This Dragon will be branded as our towns property, and we will all be treated as Dragon riders." She yelled at the top of her lungs.

She stuck the burning end on the dragons side, earning a scream from David and the Dragon as she did so.

She stopped immediately as she saw her son collapse on the roof, tears forming as he absorbed as much as his dragons pain as he could. His mother dropped the flaming torch and looked at the townsfolk.

They were all returning a confused glare, and all she did was nervously glance at the Dragon. She kicked the reptile, and this time, the whole crowed cheered, until David let out a scream of anger.

Rain began to fall, but none hit the surface of earth, instead, all the rain seemed to float to David, who's hands were shaking in rage.

"Curse you." He said quietly. "Curse you all!"

He began to frantically wave his hands around, the falling rain like bullets as they shot through people's body, destroying their flesh.

He continued his blind rage, killing every man, and woman who had dared cheered for his dragons beating. Rage was filing the dark thoughts on his mind, and a voice that didn't belong to him was whispering in his head.

'Kill them, kill them all!'

He turned to look at his mother, the last one remaining.

Her breathing was laboured, and her eyes were filled with fear as she looked at her son.

He looked at his dragon, it was bleeding endless amounts of it's purple blood, and its consciousness was fading.

David knew what to do though, and he put one hand on his mother's forehead, and another in his Dragon.

Immediatly, his hands glew a light green, and the wounds on his Dragon healed while they were tranfered to his mother.

She screamed in pain, and he felt a little sorry for her, until He remembered all the terrible things she did to him.

When he was done, he looked at his mother.

"Help me David, please."

He remained silent, not moving at all. He just continued to stare at his mother with cold eyes. His mother must have noticed his change, because she suddenly began to shake.

"What are you?" She said, her voice trembling in fear.

"Me?" He asked himself. He laughed at the question.

He turned away from his mother before speaking.

"Im a monster, just like ."

He listened as his mother's breathing stopped, and guilt found its way into his heart. He knew he would be traumatised by this when he grew up, but he wouldn't let these events change who he wanted to be.

He wanted to be free, to fly.

And now he had that.

His Dragon staggered his side and they both continued to the safe zone for the closest academy. The southern academy.

Walking over the carcasses, careful not to get any blood on themselves, they continued to walk to the safe zone.

No interruptions were made and once he stepped over the small line of crystals that acted as the safe zone, his eyes scanned the area.

Standing there was another boy, he had a red dragon, with little ember horns protruding out of its head.

The dragons caretaker, had blonde hair, which was a rare occurrence in the southern area, and unlike most southerners dark brown amdblack hair, the other boys seemed to shine.

The other boys red eyes met up with David's, and he let a smile grow on his face as David approached.

"Hi there! I'm Peter, and this is Ember, let's be friends ok?" The little boy cheered, his small cheeks growing red in excitement. David let out a smile, welcoming the new start.

"Alright."
