《Hidden》Chapter 27

Emma woke up that morning feeling a lack of sleep. Her muscles were loose but she felt great for the first time that year. Stretching, the brunette took her phone off the charger and check the group chat.
The only things that has been talked about were talks about crushes, assignments, and homework answers. Emma laughed a bit as she looked at some of the jokes thrown all over the chat.
A little tap on Emma's window was heard and she spun around. The black and white striped delivery Dragon came and was tapping on the glass.
Emma opened the window and let the cold Dragon in, the small reptile snuggling into the brunettes warm bed.
"Hey! That's mine!" She exclaimed. Emma touched the dragon only to quickly retract. The poor thing was as cold as the snow that was beginning to melt, and it's scales were covered in fallen snow. The girl wrapped a feather blanket around the small Dragon and let the reptile warm up. She would wait till later to see the message.
The silver- eyed girl then put on her clothing and readjusted her necklace.
The cool medal that hung from her neck sparkled as it reflected the sun's rays.
Emma left her room and locked the door, not caring of the dragon made a mess inside. She walked down the hallways whitch were less busier than normal. Making her way to the cafe, she over heard a few conversations that gossiped about other people then Emma.
"Did you hear? A few students got picked to go play at the spring trials."
One said.
"No way! That's nuts!" Their friend responded.
'I wonder if Peter got one, he's exellent at his magic' She thought
Sitting in her first class, Emma's eyes lingered at the door in which she entered from. She waited for a bit and Jasmine came in, a piece of toast hanging in her mouth.

Emma smiled and waved her friend over, and Jasmine happily joined.
About five minutes later, David and Peter came in and sat next to the two girls.
"Hey Emma, any news on the book yet?" David quietly asked. Emma shook her head.
"There's a magic lock on it, I think it might be headmasters."
David nodded and looked at the front of the class, then he took out a book labled, ancient objects.
"Look, that Dragon on the front of the book looks exactly like this one." David held up his book to reveal a book written in some fancy cursive. But that didn't catch Emma's eye, what did was the want David had said.
Right on the center of the page was a copy of cover of the mysterious blood-red book. The writing around it seemed frantic as if the author was desperate. But half of the page was missing, cutting off some words, but just barley missing the picture.
"What's the writing say?" Emma asked. David took a look at the seemingly alien writing and his eyes quickly scanned over the letters.
"Something about the book, it mostly warns the reader to be cautious when reading it. But the writer became frantic at the end and started scribbling stuff throughout the book."
"It mostly says curse, but that's about it."
Emma thought back to the words in her history book that she had found in the library. It Also warned about a curse, but it was from a long time ago, and had been dealt with already.
But the book David was holding was made only a few years ago, how could one man go crazy over something that's not relevant to their time?
"Student's, attention please." Mrs. Lennons clapped her hands and gained the attention of the students in the classroom. "In going to be continuing the lecture about the Dragon war, your tests are coming up soon so you must prepare."

David took out an orange notebook while Peter drew in a blue one. Emma smiled as she looked at the two makes matching books. It looked cute.
Eyeing her history book, Emma's eyes began to close on their own. Without relizing it, She fell asleep with her hand supporting her head, making her look like she was staring at her book.
When she woke up, a sheet was in front of her, and a timer had been set for 10 minutes.
She immediately began to answer some questions, no care for any spelling errors.
'what percentage is the Dragon rider population currently.'
'easy, 25 percent now.'
'What was the name for the leader of the war?'
'um'
She thought back through her memories. Many years ago her mother told many stories of the war, and she could have sworn the his name was on the tip of her tongue.
Giving up, she slipped the question and went to the next.
'label the most common magic to the least common.'
Looking down at the box below the question, Emma began to fill out the magic rarities.
When she was done with the test, the small timer went off at the same time as the class bell. Handing in her test, she walked out of the room with her friends beside her.
She had been to caught up in thinking about the Dragon was leaders name that she didn't hear her roommate call her out in the middle of the hallway.
Standing in front of the brunette was Ashley, her face was covered in so much makeup that it almost looked like she did a 100 layers in her face. Smirking, Emma cocked her head.
"Yeah Ashley?" She replied. The pink eyed girl stared Emma down and looked at her friends beside her.
David was giving Ashley a cold glare while Peter held Jasmine buy the waist, trying to restrain her from beating the living crap out of Ashley.
"Nice to see you finally have friends, but they won't be your friends for much longer, just so you know." Ashley turned around and walked away, but not before giving Emma one final hateful glance before continuing her way to her own class.
"Is that all she had to say? Sheesh."
Emma let out a sigh and Jasmine made her turn face to face. Jasmine smiled at the brunette and Peter and David also gave her one as well.
"You know, I'm not sure if she was lying or just being jealous. Cause we would never leave you, not for anything." Peter elbowed Emma playfully and she returned the gesture.
Waving her friends goodbye, she headed with Jasmine to gym class.

NEWDIE STEADSLAW Part I
NEWDIE STEADSLAW is a randomized array of Chekhov's red herrings, non sequitors ex machina, run-on sentences, and em dashes—so many em dashes. It's like if the Bible and Shakespeare had a baby that they surrendered to foster care, then it got adopted by Alice in Wonderland and Dr. Seuss—the books, not the people—and then the baby fell down the stairs. In this metaphor, the stairs wrote the story. Part I is the tale of the adventures of Traycup and Roby as they try to hold down a job inside the hollow Earth—a place made possible thanks to the secret science of embargoed relativity—and they get distracted by dancing foxes, a giant's record collection, and something with a train, I think. It's a work of fiction—although to call it work seems insulting to, y'know, actual work—but the fiction label is apt, so, y'know, that's a win. Half the words are made up, and the other half are embarrassed to be seen with them. Part I is complete.

A System Apocalypse Fan Fiction I started reading Litrpg about two years ago. I fell in love with Tao Wong's System Apocalypse series. He is an excellent writer and I loved his world building, but when the second series arc went elsewhere It kind of lost me a little. I wanted to create a little parallel world that was very familiar to his fans but skewed off in a different, darker direction. If you haven't read Tao's work, you're missing out! Look him up on Amazon and read The System Apocalypse. One of the best in the genre.
