《Hidden》Chapter 3

Emma woke up to the sun peeking over her windowsill. As her grey eyes opened for the first time that morning, the sounds of waking dragon cries filled her ears. She crawled out of her bed, and glanced over to her roommates bed. As expected, it was empty.

Ashley, Emma's roommate, was a top ranked student at the school. She was the same age as Emma, but known to be one of the most powerful magic hybrids in the school. Though Ashley was a top ranked student, she would sneak out of school late at night and do who-knows-what in the forest with other guys. Lets just say she lost her innocence early.

Groaning, Emma got up and headed to her oak wood dresser, the floor creaking under the slightest amount of pressure. Searching through the uniforms, she picked out a white shirt and a black vest, including some black tights to add on to the bland look.

Next, she clipped on a dragon necklace she cherished. Emma's fingertips brushed the metal that she took off that night and she headed to the washroom, brushing her brown hair that went down to her shoulder blades.

For what seemed like forever, she managed to finally finish brushing her hair and she brushed her teeth, keeping her eyes glued into her reflection on the mirror. She studied her eyes for a bit, noticing her eyes were a bit dull. She shook her head, spitting out the toothpaste and washing her face.

She had no time nor care for makeup, so she simply got her black shoulder bag with all her class books and headed to the cafeteria for some breakfast and the morning announcements.

When she managed to get to the cafeteria for breakfast, almost everyone looked at her. News of the girl beating the fire triplets had spread across the school, and that only made students dislike her even more. Emma rolled her eyes and headed over to one of the empty tables, eyes drilling holes into her back. Some people went back to eating, while others had hushed conversations.

Emma tried to ignore the whispers, but they made it into her ears anyways, echoing through her head.

'holy macaroni do these immature kids ever shut up?'

She grabbed an Apple from the baskets laying out on the middle of each table, turning the other cheek with her fellow students. Sure, it was only the second week of her second year, and many still had to learn that the girl with grey eyes was not going anywhere. When she walked out, some conversations picked back up again, but most were silent and fading, making the once gloomy aura disappear with her.

Emma made her way to the dragon stables, the only calming place to get out of the whole academy. Once she made herself comfortable in some loose straw, she began to eat her bruised apple, letting her head drop along with her mood. When she was halfway done her breakfast, the girls ears picked up two dragons making their way towards her.

"What seems to be the matter little one?" the first dragon asked telepathically, judging from its voice, it was a male dragon.

"Nothing." Emma looked up and whispered. Her voice came out hushed due to the fact that she hadn't talked since waking up, so She cleared her throat, stabilizing her voice. A female voice talked this time.

"Girl, you have said the same thing, and the day before that, and ever since you came here there has been nothing wrong. We can sense your sadness."

Emma lifted her head to get a better look at the dragons. The first one, Emma did not recognize, but his red scales gave him a ruby glow, and his orange horns were like amber, clear orange horns that casted a honey light through the room. The dragon's eyes were a striking red, a fire dragon.

The second dragon Emma recognized right off the bat, it was Ashley's dragon. It's pink scales makes her stand out, and her purple underbelly made her look like a dragon a child would dream up. Her eyes were a pink with purple streaks in them, and her purple horns curved elegantly behind her. She had golden rings attached to some parts of her horns, put there by Ashley herself.

"Guys, I appreciate the help, really I do, but this will all be over when-" Emma was cut off by the five beeps of the magically run P.A. system.

"~Gooooooood morning students~!" the headmaster's song voice rang, the P.A system making a noticeable ringing sound. "It's been a busy morning for us teacher's today, so I would like to ask all students to start heading down towards the center of the academy please." The annoying ring of the P.A. system was cut off, being replaced by the soft sound of the wind, but sadly Emma broke that silence with a sneeze.

Emma scarfed down the rest of her breakfast, waved goodbye to the two concerned dragons and made her way the the center of the academy, otherwise known as the auditorium.

When Emma made it halfway through her journey to the auditorium, she bumped into someone who turned the corner, causing them to both land on there butts.

"A-ah! Sorry! I didn't see you there, I was just trying to find my way to headmaster..." the boys voice trailed off as he looked at Emma, His bright blue eyes never leaving her face. His unnatural blue hair shining in the light.

"Hey, it's ok." Emma said while getting up, she stretched her hand and helped the boy up. His eyes were still locked on hers and they stayed like that for a little bit until the Emma finally broke the silence with a cough.

"U-um the names David, David Tryim, and you are?"

"Emma, Emma Dragonstar." It felt weird for the girl, having to say her own name, and getting acquainted with the new, strange boy.

"A-ah, that's a nice name" David said nervously. Emma smiled at the boy, trying to calm his growing nerves. David's eyes then began to peer over Emma's shoulder, but disappointment flashed through them as he sighed.

"Um, you wouldn't know how to get to the back of the auditorium do you? I kinda got lost in the way there and I'm gonna be in trouble if I'm not there on time..." David trailed off. Emma smiled and took his hand leading him through the hallways, too oblivious to notice the light pink dusted across his face.

After a while of walking, Emma and David reached their destination. She let go of David's hand and he made his way over to a group of people in green and white uniforms, the emblem on their shirts different from hers. There symbols had a tree with a dragon wrapped around it.

W-wait, isn't that the symbol for the southern dragon academy? Why are they here?

Emma's thoughts were cut off by the sight of David who joined what seemed to be a friend of his before he turned around to give Emma an ear-to-ear smile.

"See you soon Emma! Maybe we can hang out later!" he yells over the crowds voices. Emma simply gives him a thumbs-up and makes her way towards the front of the auditorium.

Finally, she made it through the halls and into the Auditorium, she had just began to realize how packed the room was. The combined heat of everyone's body flew into the air and made the room stink and heat up to an uncomfortable temperature. It stayed that way for what seemed like hours but were probably minutes, and Emma swore that she was gonna lose her mind if no fresh air came to her soon.

Soon enough Emma's wish was granted, and the roof of the auditorium split open, and a dark grey dragon came flying down towards the stage, causing the once stale air the be replaced by fresh air. The grey dragon was recognized as headmaster's dragon, the rainbow crystal embedded into its chest radiated power. It's dark gray scales reflecting the rainbow light given off by the crystal.

The dragons horns were white and the dragons eyes were black, but with white specks, making it look like he is looking through space. Headmasters voice broke Emma through her trance.

"Hello everyone! It's good to see you today, the dragons has given us a beautiful day again." The crowd clapped for our headmaster. Even though headmaster was a mischievous man, he was fun for his young age, that only made him more lovable. He treated every student like his child, and the respect he had for the school was unmatched.

"However, today is a sad day, for a great loss has made its way here. The dragon academy from the South has been completely destroyed, along with most of the students, I know some of you had some family members who were lost there, and I'm offering counseling if you wish to talk to anyone." Gasps were heard from the crowd, and some of the students began shuffling nervously as the waited for the next piece of news, making Emma froze, the southern academy was the second largest academy in the land, and an unknown force had torn it all down in a matter of hours? She couldn't help but feel a little sad for the massive loss, but answered questions swam through her head.

Headmaster continued.

"We have brought you here today, to not only give you bad news, but also Some good news as well" he looked up and a mischievous look shone through his eyes.

"We have brought the survivors and they have agreed to stay at this here academy!" the crowd went wild, cheering for the new students to come and show their faces. The headmaster waved his hand over, and a group of boys and girls come out from behind the curtain, the group only ranged to have around 50 people, and that wasn't a lot considering that Emma's school had a ranging number of around 500 dragon riders. In that group of southern dragon riders, Emma saw David, and his eyes were scanning the crowd as if looking for someone. When they locked eyes, she could of sworn she saw his eyes sparkle.

"Now remember students! Treat these newcomers like you would treat each other! That's all for today! And no skipping today, that goes for everybody." At the last statement a few in the crowd burst into laughter, and everyone started to file out of the auditorium, most of the southern students following the headmaster out the back entrance to get them into new classes. Emma ducked into a corner of the large room, waiting in the shadows for her classmates to leave the room. It took a good ten minutes for everyone to leave, by when she stepped out of the shadows, she stopped when she felt two pairs of eyes on her.

The absence of people only left Emma and two of the southern dragon riders. David finally jumped down the stage, heading over to Emma while someone else followed David with curious eyes.

"Hey Emma, it's nice to see you again," David said, losing his previous studder. " Meet my best friend, Peter! Peter, this is the girl who helped me out when I got lost"

With the sound of his name, his head perked up and his orange eyes met with Emma's grey ones. His short blond hair was well kept, and he replaced his old emblem; from a tree, for brand new emblem for the central academy on his chest, a dragon now wrapped around an coloured orange sword. When Emma glanced at David's emblem, it had a blue sword, the same colour as his eyes.

"Hey, I'm Peter, nice to meet ya. Thanks again for helping this goof find his way back" Peter came a little closer to Emma and whispered. "He's awful at directions."

"I am not!" David argued, causing the other two to laugh. Emma watched as the two friends interacted with each other, and she felt a pang of jealousy that they had such a good friendship.

Emma took their friendly distraction and slipped out of the room, heading to her first classes for the remainder of the day.
