《Caged In》Chapter 39

Conner drives fast and we try to wrap Dominic as best we can in a torn blanket from inside Luca's cab. Lucky for us he left his keys inside with his lack of pockets. "How did you know to come?" Asking Nate as I hold my own side and shake my head back and forth when I start to feel myself slipping in and out of consciousness; I'm losing too much blood and my wolf is barely there. Only starting to stir, trying to wake as the poison leaves me. It does nothing for the silver that's sliced me open though and my hand and side are coated in red.

"Connor sent me a text and luckily I seen it. They've attacked Scott's lands just as we received it otherwise we would 'ave been quicker," he tells me as he keeps the blanket tight around his alpha, listening closely to his heart. "Stay ya prick, ye still owes me money for our bet!" He's scolding Dominic with his teeth out, trying to make his friend stay. Looking out around we pass dead wolves in the ditches from where Luca had to fight them off. The human news station will have everyone terrified and locking their doors for weeks. Conner takes a sharp left as he almost misses the entrance to the apartment complex and Nate's hand comes up, putting it to my chest to prevent me from flying around the bed of the truck causing me to hiss from the pain of the small wound above my heart. If I was falling asleep I am awake now.

It's a rush to my head when I stand, stumbling to the end of the bed as we try to get Dom out and into the apartment as Luca opens the door panting. Carrying him inside his weight is starting to pull me down and Sophia rushes me, hugging me tightly as tears streak down her face. Luca has to lunge forward to catch the side I was carrying as they bring him in. She starts to look over my side and mumbles, rushing out words as she talks more to herself then to me. "No Sophia, I'm alright for now, your father needs help immediately," grabbing her face and trying to urge her with the gravity of the situation. She holds my wrists and tears well in her eyes as she holds mine, "I know baby, I know. Please he saved my life... He's your father. Please." I plead with her to do something and with a quick nod Sophia comes over to where they put him on Wayne's table and she starts to direct them on what to do. Conner mutters something about keeping watch before he makes a quick move to the door and none of us stop him. Wayne is off in another room as I hear his gags from in the bedroom. Spilling his guts at the choas around us all. Watching Sophia in this moment is like watching a medic with the cool steel that has settled in her bones. Quick orders are given to us and soon Sophia has some make shifted tools needed to try and save his life; made with towels, a kitchen knife and tongs, and a sewing kit with fishing line. Nate helps her and gives her slight instructions to help. She's had to slice off the decaying flesh and tendons before reaching in to sew something inside as he helps before sewing the outside. It'll be a harsh recover but his heart stays steady for now and Sophia comes over to sew me next. She says nothing as she works, making no move to be gentle when I hiss in pain. After she's done and she sets her tools aside her hands start to tremble as she looks over the blood on them and a sob slips out.

She's been through hell today.

Taking her to the kitchen sink I help her clean her hands as she sways slightly on her feet. "Where did you learn to do that? Working on Mountain Lions?" I ask her soft to try and stir something in her but she still looks at her hands before shaking her head slowly. "My uncle is one of those doomsday preppers. When I went to medical school he made me learn a few things he thought would be helpful. Derek's the one going in the Marines for medical but with him gone they needed someone to fill in if ever something was to happen. I only did it because he helped me get my house with a downpayment." She tells me before softly lifting her face to peer at mine. "Is this what its always like?"

"No," telling her gently, "fighting like this isn't normal for our pack" looking over at Dom and Nate, their pack is different, the whole structure of it. How many times have they been here. Last time we were into trouble was when Scott took Chey from her pack and brought her here before they approved for them to even be together. We have it easy compared to others. My thoughts start to churn as the worry sets in about what I may be doing to us by leaving this pack. Her hand squeezes mine as her eyes start to focus more and I see her wolf under there, pushing and nudging her, "this is why we train... Right?" She glances from her father up to me.

"Yes baby, this is why we will train." trying to keep my words in a soothing tone, she reaches up and kisses my cheek before Luca cuts in as he stands, kicking the chair he was sitting in hard. "We can't just sit here," he snaps, the anger rolls over him to fill the room completely as it seeps into all of us.

"Then don't." Nate growls back and Luca looks at him surprised. "Take Cage's truck and get to the pack, Rufus is there I knows it. 'e's 'oping to swoop in with numbers seeing 'ow weak Scott's pack was on it's own. This is why we kept our wolves 'ere instead of sending them 'ome yesterday. Go and take 'im down and 'is wolves will scatter real quick." Luca doesn't hesitate or question it, he takes my keys and orders us into the vehicle, snapping at Conner to get in as well before he speeds and peels out of here, taking us down the road towards the lands, taking corners like they aren't a thing even in my larger truck he handles it like he's done this a hundred times. I thought what we were in was a chaotic attack, this is a right out siege. Wolves across the grounds both dead and dying, injured while others fight back trying to gain control. Screams and cries roll through as pack members try to barricade themselves inside their homes. Luca passes them as he goes to the heart of it all, hitting two wolves along the way with my truck and denting the shit out of it. " Hey! Watch it!"

"Oh I'll buy you a new one!" He snaps back before hitting the break hard and pulling the wheel quick to turn us sharp before we all jump out. "Stay close to me." I tell Sophia and I pull her down towards the medical centre to search around while Conner and Luca make plans before they shift and split away in opposite directions. Her eyes swirl like the clouds of a tornado ready to touch down as that steel slips back into her spine and she leans on her wolf for guidance and comfort with every step forward as the sounds of war rings out around us. The wing is locked up and I have to pound on it calling for Chantel before she will let us inside. "Are you out ya damn mind!" She fumes as she pulls us inside.

"Give me a steroid I need to go help them. Keep her with you, Sophia can help patch up wolves just give her the tools to do it." I bark out the order and Chantel quickly shuts her mouth as she shakes her head before going to a back room and coming back with a syringe in hand, sticking it into my side hard. "Scott's over by the hall. Chey is in the back here with the pups. We need protection here Cage," she warns me and I nod. "Where's Sam?"

"He's got wolves clearing the boards. It's only in the woods here not the town." She tells me as her lips tremble.

"I'll have more wolves over here to help you," I promise her before turning to Sophia and kissing her hard. She hits my chest angrily and I can feel the hammer of her heart with the panic and rage rising up. "I know it isn't what you want to hear but I have to do this. I can't sit back and do nothing." I whisper against her lips. I feel a bite in mine as she growls toward me before she turns away, nodding slowly with a deep swallow down. "I'll do what I can here."

"Let her protect you. Don't fear your wolf, she's a natural fighter. Trust her." Sophia only nods again as she lets me go and clings to the edges of the T-shirt she slipped on at Wayne's. Chantel takes her hand to lead her to a back room offering to get her scrubs to change into. Stepping outside the fighting around is starting to dwindle and push towards the woods but a few still linger too close. Letting the wolf surge forward he wastes no time helping the closest wolf fight off his attacker, growling at our wolves to go to the clinic and protect it before moving to the next. Wolf after wolf goes down as we tear through them, the drugs pumping into our adrenaline. My wolf starts to get a sort of tunnel vision that has him only focusing on the forienge stentch on his lands. Making my way through the woods I don't hear or smell Sam but I do hear some wolves calling for more help down by the hall and I see a dark shadow sprint through the woods. Smelling the air my wolf follows after Charles as he barrels down a hill slamming into one of the wolves that has Scott pinned down and I take the second to give Scott a better chance with the third. He rights himself and takes the throat of the wolf on top of him before he shifts, holding his stomach that has a nasty gash going through it and it bleeds slowly; he's been cut too. "We need to go through and push them towards the middle to surround them. I have wolves staying on the boarders with Sam," His chest heaves and we both shift. "Rufus still is missing, so is one of his betas. We have a larger gathering at the southern part where Dominic's wolves are, they need more numbers from where the group came in." Charles states as he scans the area, perking his ears to listen.

"We were jumped up north, took down his beta there." I inform him and he nods his head as he takes the moment to breath and look over his wound. "I'll go to Dominic's group and guild them, him and Nate came to help us and he got hurt badly. Luca and Conner both took off when they got here but I think they are only looking for Rufus."

"We can start leading our wolves to push them inward, have Justin and Sam take some males to comb through the outer edge of the territory and take out any runners or squatters." Charles suggests and Scott nods in agreement to the plan

"The clinic needs protecting. They are being breached and the pups are inside." I tell them over my shoulder before shifting and darting off to the south. Charles wasn't exaggerating, a large group is gathered, fighting in a tight formation. They move as one but they seem skittish like a feral pack, only jumping out to bite and nip, trying to drag what they can to the middle of their group and slaughter. I notice one of Dominic's males trying to keep command and failing at it as he tries to gain the upper hand, directing the wolves but his orders are lost on them when they try to go head on and one gets taken in the circle as snarls and yelps are heard. They have a pool of blood underneath them. My wolf comes up beside the male and putting his back to the group as he addresses these wolves. They all look too young, these are some of the ones joining our pack I notice, most are no older than twenty-one. The wolf digs in his paws, growling at them for the challenge but none do before he postures and barks at wolves to get into position. A few times he has to correct as their eyes drift to the group to see if it'll take me. They don't move or advance they snap and bite but never leave their puddle, too afraid they might lose their standing and form. Soon we have them surrounded.

They get in tight showing their teeth and claws as they bite and growl but my wolf waits and watches for when the first tries to step and he bumps the side of the wolf next to him before surging forward and grabbing one of the wolves. The male wolf moves forward with the bump and helps me drag it out of lines before tearing through him as their group watches and the rest of our wolves figure out the plan as they do the same, working in groups of two to grab a wolf and drag them away fron their huddled circle, tearing into them for the rest to watch and quickly they start to dwindle before fear takes them, instinct telling them to run, darting away when they see an opportunity. These wolves have no mercy even for the ones showing their necks, they only kill them slower and with brutality. Realigning them we make our way inward, taking out any we come across and forcing the rest to run inward to be met only by another set of teeth waiting on them. The closer we get I start to hear a howl, a call out to gather. This is a challenge.

Its Rufus, it has to be. Rushing forward my lungs squeeze and its getting harder to stay up as our body starts to feel the effects of our injuries and the drain on our body as the drugs start to leave us. When we get to the gathered circle and push my way through I find Scott already waiting inside the ring at its edge, starting to slump from his wounds. Going to him and putting his arm over my shoulder he puts down his weight that he's been holding. "If you aren't the challenger..." I start to say through heavy breathes and looking to the fight of fur in front of us. Its Charles slashing and biting at Rufus in the center. Both bleeding badly.
