《My BadBoy》Chapter 4: Roommate of my Dreams

" Want to watch Netflix?". Jackson sat next to me on the couch with one slice of meat lovers pizza in one hand and the remote in the other.
I snorted. "And chill?". I asked sarcastically.
I guess he might've taken me seriously because he choked and ran to the kitchen for a glass of water gasping for air, when he came back he glared at me and stated, " You're lucky you're off limits".
"Oh?,". I rose my eyebrows while he pulled up a recent episode of The Walking Dead. " And what exactly would you do if I wasn't?".
He didn't respond he merely glanced in my direction then focused on the flat screen TV in front of us. I watched, feeling a little disappointed as he slowly finished his pizza and moved on to drinking his half full glass of water. I don't know what I expected maybe I just-
I squealed as something heavy fell on top of my body making me fall backwards onto the plush couch. Jackson smirked and positioned so he was straddling me then moved his face inches from mine before saying, "What would I do?,". He placed his hand on his chin and wondered. "Well first off if you were mine i'd make sure you never forget that".
Maybe I should've kept my mouth shut. " How?". I asked curiously.
" How?,". He chuckled. " By giving you a wild ride that's how".
His warm breath lingered on my neck even when he moved away and I yearned for him to touch me. He searched my eyes and my body became hot just from his intense stare, and the fact that he was on top of me. I looked at his lips again for the upteinth time today and bit my lip once more. He inhaled sharply and pulled away altogether running a hand through his hair and muttering " What are you doing to me, Vanilla bean?". It was a rhetorical question.

He got up and slipped into what looks like the bathroom. I still never got the tour but my speculation was proven correct when I heard the shower turn on. I sighed and thought about today's events, I met a mysterious guy who can sometimes be a tool but for some reason showed me a whole new side of him. I was sitting there with my thoughts wandering off to space when Jackson came back in his black pj bottoms and that's it. No shirt, no shoes.
Just his incredible V line taunting me below his abdominal muscles. Oh and of course his mesmerising tattoos which I suddenly became attracted to.
"Close your mouth Vanilla bean, wouldn't want you to catch any flies". He smirked.
I blushed and decided to change the subject. " Why don't you tell me anything?".
"What?". He frowned.
" Well,". I started. " You don't seem to want me to know anything about you like who's in charge of your group". I referred to the conversation we had about is loyalty tattoo.
"Sweetheart, you know more about me than some of closest friends". He said and I could tell he was trying to remain calm. I flinched at the sudden name change.
He's mad.
"I'm sorry". I whispered looking at the plain walls behind him.
He relaxed a little. " For what?".
I finally met his eyes. " For upsetting you, believe it or not you're my only friend".
He walked over and sat next to me. "I'm not upset i'm just...surprised at how true my words are".
I looked up at him through my lashes. "What do you mean?".
He took my hands in his sending a chill through my spine. "Vanilla bean, you a girl I just met knows more about me than my friends i've known for years".

"Oh,". I finally got the meaning of his words. He's somehow managed to trust a girl he just met more than his friends he's known for a long time. I wonder if those friends are in that group he's loyal to. "Can I ask you a question?".
" Rule number one, don't ask questions". He pulled his hands away from mine and ran them through his hair, meaning he's frustrated. It's strange how I know these little things about him already.
"I Know, I know but...it's important". I mumbled.
"Fine,". He gave in. "What?".
"Are you here on a scholarship?". I asked.
" Nope". He yawned and got up grabbing the remote and turning the TV off.
" Then how are you here? are you rich? because that would-".
" What's with the twenty questions dang it?". He snapped earning a genuine smile from me because he kept his promise and didn't curse.
" No reason,". I confessed. " Just wondering how they let a bad boy into their school if they're so stuck up".
" I have my ways of getting what I want Vanilla bean, learned from the best in the business". He stretched.
" Who?". I asked, already knowing he wasn't going to tell me.
He shook his head. " Go to bed, you're tired and your eyes are turning red".
" In a minute". I muttered wanting to clear my head first.
"Now". He ordered holding his hand out, I was going to argue but his eyes challenged me and something told me I would get more than a lecture.
I took his hand and he led me to my room. I never knew I was that tired until I was under the warm covers and my head rested gently on my soft fluffy pillow I brought with me. My eyes slowly began to close and Jackson leaned over and whispered softly into my ear.
"Goodnight, Vanilla bean".
Goodnight, roommate of my dreams I thought to myself and heard a small chuckle escaped his lips leaving me to wonder if I actually said that out loud as my eyes gave into the darkness and I fell into a dreamless sleep.

Dungeon Core Chat Room.
This is a slower-paced "experiment and dungeon building" web novel that tries to use the idea of peer-to-peer communication with Dungeon Cores instead of Dungeon to slave monster communication to break up the detailed dungeon building. Rank 1 description: (minimum met for system initialization...detailed description as follows) Each race was given a system by the gods to make up for their shortcomings and balance their place in this world. Humans: Abysmally bad at understanding and using magic unable to use more than the lowest of magic were given the "Skill System" magic in the form of premade skills with use, study, and mastery tied to experience. Elves: Intuitively understand magic and have long lives leading to vast knowledge and skill in their chosen fields. However, as a species, they have nearly zero sex drive and less than low fertility, so they were gifted the "World Tree System" with experience gained through the care of natural areas – gifting the chance of children to increase their numbers without dirty copulation. All “natural” or “wild” monsters are given an "Evolution system" designed around killing and consuming as many creatures as possible, slowly increasing strength and, at thresholds, allowing mutations to alter them multiple times. Dungeon cores are different. Unlike humans, they can see, manipulate and live off mana. Unlike Elves, they naturally crystallize after extended periods of time in high mana level areas. However, they cannot easily move or communicate and typically go insane without companionship. As a species other than the odd eccentric they are unimaginative. Brute forcing solutions without the drive to truly innovate. Thus they have been gifted with the "Dungeon Connection System" a magical version of the internet accessible by their peers that allows them to barter and sell: bait, traps, monsters, and knowledge, as well as entertain each other with “adventure streams” using exciting recorded battles and humorous reels of arrogant chumps biting off more than they can chew to often fatal effects. This is the casual story of a dungeon unluckily spawned far from potential adventurers forced to innovate beyond its peers to find its place in this world. Rank 2 Description: Justification. I've been on a dungeon core kick for months and while I love the genre – it's sparse with entries. Often the forced conflict gets repetitive and frantic solving of threats "power levels" the protagonist to god levels to progress the plot – taking away the nice steady progression fantasy I'm looking for. (Progression in this story is linked to how strong of monsters/traps/whatever he can create not his "level"...this is demonstrated by some of his newer monsters beating his older monsters not with discrete "this monster has 10 attack this one has 40") Additionally, the focus on 3rd parties with their drama takes away from the reason I’m reading dungeon core novels in the first place – I'm looking for magical crafting, experimentation and kingdom building – not defence from higher and higher levelled enemies looking to steal/destroy/control the MC. This novel is kind of just me writing the story I wish I could read. I like thinking about the experimentation that can be done in fantasy settings using 'mana' as an excuse to make up rules and try to keep them internally consistent. IE once I define how a rule works, I'm going to commit to keeping it – no breaking hard truths I've given when it's convenient, even if it backs me into a corner. Hopefully, that should make the story interesting to read even if it's SOL and less action-oriented. There will be problems to solve and a clear progression in strength (of created monsters and knowledge) however due to not wanting to force conflict for the sake of conflict the general theme will be closer to slice of life with few action sequences and no overarching goal so please keep that in mind when picking this up as the genre is not for everyone. Finally, I have a clear goal of what I want from this story (not an endless romp but a series of arcs and then a conclusion that's a couple of dozen medium-sized chapters long) I want to commit to finishing it or at least bringing it to a point of rest. I hate all the engaging stories that stop with a “hiatus” indefinitely so in the event I lose motivation I'll work to end this even if the ending becomes rushed/unsatisfying just to give a sense of closure. I’m planning on including several polls in terms of direction and taking feedback heavily into account if I get enough readers (but may choose to ignore it if it deviates too far from the direction I want to take this as in feedback like: “The MC needs a cartoonishly evil arch-enemy that wants to enslave him and force the mc to pump out magic items” or “the MC needs to make a body and learn teleportation then live with humans” will get shot down without consideration.)

The Queen's Guard
Friedrich Schreiner is a proud gefreiter of the Queen's Guard, 2nd Company: the finest fighting infantry on the continent (barring the Temple Guard; but please don't bring that up). Service is honourable but, with the Empire on a peacetime footing, terribly boring. Affairs take a dramatic turn for the worse when a mysterious invader uses a forgotten and taboo magical means to breach the capital, plunging the nation into chaos and endangering the royal family. With events spiraling out of control, Friedrich is entrusted with a critical mission. Will hot lead, cold steel, and his determination be enough to see him through? The Queen's Guard is what I'm calling a black powder fantasy story: it's set in a loose equivalent of the early 18th century (plus or minus a few pieces I decided I wanted or didn't want). Magic exists, but not in a spell-slinging sort of way: it's Earth-shaking undertakings or minor enchantments forged in by master craftsmen, the grand working of a secretive cabal or a slight nudge to the course of a blow. I, the eternal optimist, have a full trilogy in mind. The first book is The Prince's Arquebusier, hence the cover and the title disagreeing! This is my shot at 2021's NaNoWriMo and RR Writathon! I've hitherto been terrible at writing long-form fiction, so this is an effort to break out of that by having some accountability in being supposed to post chapters regularly. Here's hoping it works! I have an outline, but not too much detail. I'll do my best to avoid continuity errors, doing anything glaringly stupid, or otherwise fluffing my lines, but I can't make any promises on that. Please do let me know any feedback! Always happy to improve. [participant in the Nov 2021 Royal Road Writathon challenge]
