I'll be there in ten
I press send before I pull out of the driveway. After a minute my phone beeps again so I know he's seen the message. The weather was extra hot today so I opted for the windows down and a barely there outfit
I pull up outside Ryders house a few minutes later. Ryder gets into the passenger seat wearing red basketball shorts and a black T-shirt.
"Yo" he says closing the door
"Hey" I say pulling back onto the road "you ready for the best eight hours of your life"
Ryder laughs "with Sean? Sounds more like the loudest eight hours of my life"
"Speaking of Sean, tell him we'll be at his place in a minute"
"Yes ma'am"
Seans waiting at the side of the street when we get there "Your late" he says getting into the back of the car "and I swear to god if it was because you guys were doing it where I'm sitting right now I won't hesitate to kill you both"
"Oh my god Sean, get your mind out of the gutter" I retort "we are spending our whole day driving just so you can get a new car"
"If I remember correctly it was actually just supposed to be Ryder but you jumped on the idea when you found out he was going"
I roll my eyes "oh shut up"
"How's Molly?" Ryder asks throwing me a wink "your only salty because she wouldn't come"
"Not wouldn't, couldn't because she's working"
The next four hours consisted of Ryder and Sean bickering and fighting over the music, which I responded to by playing my favourite songs with the response to their protests "my car my rules"
Sean treated himself to a new Range Rover and once the dealings were done we decided to go for some food at a nearby restaurant
"What can I get you guys?" a pretty waitress around our age walks over to our table
"I have something in mind but it's not on the menu" Ryder says in an overly flirtatious voice

The waitress grins "I'm sorry about that sir, it's on high demand" she winks
"I'll have the chicken salad please" I interrupt my voice edgy
"I'll have the cheese burger" Sean says eyeing me warily
"Got it" the waitress says writing it down
"I'll have the same as him" Ryder adds
Once the waitress leaves our table is suddenly awkwardly silent
"So are you happy with your new car?" I ask Sean avoiding any sort of contact with the boy sitting beside me
Sean grins "it was worth every penny"
"Ryder will have fun in the passenger seat on the way home" I say looking at my phone
"That's impossible because I'm going home with you" Ryder responds
I turn towards him with a raised eyebrow "uh no your not"
"You literally drove the whole way here, there's no way you'll make it back without falling asleep"
"So what, I'll just pull over"
"Over my dead body" he gives me a stern look so I raise a questioning eyebrow "your not sleeping in your car alone on the side of a road in the middle of the night"
"Then your driving and I'm sleeping" I shrug. I may be coming off slightly cold but he was flirting with a random girl in front of my face less than five minutes ago
Ryder nods "suits me"
Sean looks between us "I've never wished Molly was here so much"
It's after 11pm when we leave the restaurant. We said a quick goodbye to a very happy and thankful Sean who took of in his Range Rover.
"I'll drive for awhile" I say sitting into the drivers seat
Ryder nods and sits in his seat
"Everything all right?" He asks once we're back on the road
I nod "why wouldn't it be?"
Ryder shrugs and I can feel his eyes on me "you've just been off since earlier"
The car returns to its usual silence the only noise from the radio. After an hour I get a message

"Can you check that for me?" I ask
Ryder agrees and picks up my phone. After a few seconds he speaks up "who's Mark?"
"Why does it matter?"
"I don't know you've been texting this Mark guy for awhile now? Is this why your on you phone so much now you're texting your new hookup"
I roll my eyes "it's Emily's best friend"
"Do you two have a thing?"
"He gay" I state "why are you so interested? You were the one flirting with the waitress earlier"
Ryder snorts "I wasn't flirting with her. Is that what's wrong with you"
I shake my head and pull over to turn to him "you were the one questioning me about Mark sixty seconds ago remember and come on how was that not flirting"
"What did I say that sounded like flirting?"
"Let me think. I have something in mind but it's not on the menu" I say the last part in a squeaky voice
"Ok, one I don't talk like that and two I was talking about the famous steak that restaurant was known for"
"And the flirtatious voice?"
"You got that out of no where" he laughs "I knew you were jealous"
"Do you two have a thing?" I mock his voice from a few seconds ago
He rolls his eyes "now get out of the car I'm driving"
I huff but get out of the car. Ryder takes off with ease before speaking "now get some sleep you look half dead"
"Always the charmer" I say but find myself nodding off almost straight away

I'm stirred awake by Ryder tapping my leg. I flinch when I open my eyes because of the bright lights on front of us "where are we?" I mutter noticing the sudden change in weather since I was last awake
"At a motel" Ryder informs me "there's a really bad summer storm so people are advised to get off the road"
"What about Sean?" I ask
"I'm just off the phone to him, he's a few towns over at a different motel"
I nod. The rain doesn't look like it's going to stop anytime soon so we decide to make a run for it which ended up with us both soaked from head to toe
When we got to our room which was a medium sized room with two single beds and other basic necessities.
"You can shower first" Ryder tells me sitting down on one of the beds
"You sure?" I ask and he nods
Once I've showered, Ryder does the same. While he's showering I tried to find something good on the television but there was nothing on so I turned it back off
I have no clothes to wear to bed and I also don't want to wear the same outfit I'm going to have to wear tomorrow so I opted for just wearing my lingerie. I got under my blanket just before Ryder came out of the bathroom
"Nothing good on television?" He asks
I shake my head "if only"
"You got the remote?" Ryder asks walking toward me. Without realising he grabs the corner of my blanket and lifts it up to look for the remote but freezes when he realises I'm not exactly wearing much clothes
"Uh sorry" he says scratching the back of his head and turning around
I gulp "it's fine, not like you haven't seen it before" I attempt to joke but it doesn't exactly work
Ryder who's wearing only his boxers gets into his bed not far away from mine. We don't say anything until Ryders phone beeps a few minutes later. I watch him as an unreadable expression makes its way into his face. After a minute of him staring aimlessly into his phone, Ryder looks up at me with a nervous look on his face
"Sarah's waters just broke"

Mistbound: Eternity
The world is said to be formed out of duality of man. Good and evil, right and wrong, light and dark. And with duality, comes conflict. A meaningless clash of ideals results in pointless wars. Azlan is wanderer who doesn't falls in either category. Tired and done with the redundant world, he lives his secluded life, hunting monstrosites for coin in the crumbling province of Mountaliya, situated in the land of Forsa. The premise follows Azlan as he explores the province, experiencing the culture and its people as they try to stand unshaken amidst a cold and unforgiving world. The story is a dark fantasy that is a balance of action and world building but most importantly, it follows the people going about their daily lives. The world has entered a state of stasis, there are no high stakes, no glory to be had, only a decaying realm of ice remains. Everyone awaits for Heaven's descent, an event prophesied to bring the world out of stasis, by granting the champion of the event a wish. Heaven Shall Descend. I wanted to write a high fantasy story that doesn't focuses too much on Magic and Swordfights, but rather interactions between people, a bit of politics and ideals. This is my first attempt at writing something this huge, please let me know if you see mistakes or any problems in general, so I can learn from them. (The cover picture is from the year 1818, "Wanderer Above the Mist" by Caspar David Friedrich). I also write Short stories set in the same shared universe. You can read them here: Dark Fantasy Short Stories.

The Eye in the Sky
People have always thought that the undead would come from hell - that they would rise from their graves to bring their torments upon the earth. They never thought that they would come from the heavens instead and rain upon the world like divine judgment. Ten years had passed since that day. Evan had thought that he had seen all there is to see. What remained of civilized society couldn't recover. Millions of zombies wandered in every city, and thousands more roam the countryside. Every day was a struggle to survive just as it had always been. He, as well as most of the survivors that remained on earth, had resigned themselves to a life of wandering until their deaths. Their last hope was news of an underground settlement being constructed to the far west, outside the eyes of the wandering and falling undead. But then they encounter a girl who had survived in the middle of a heavily-infested city. She claims that she knows of a way to end the apocalypse once and for all. What should he and his group do?
