《His Name Was Tate》fighting for fun

Lunch came a lot quicker than expected. Me and Becks met outside of my class as always and made our way into cafeteria to get our food. As we moved out of the line to our table we are spotted a bruised Kyle. He sat down next to Becks with a smile and Becks face filled with concern.

"Hola beauties, how's it-" before he could finish Becks hand shot up to his bruised cheek. She rubbed it softly and Kyle lightly grimaced at the action.

"I'm so sorry." She said in a whisper. He smiled at her and patted her head reassuringly. "It's not your fault my brothers a dick. And besides I stepped in to help him, so I kind of set my self up." He said.

I watched the two of them in silence. Becks playing mother hen and checking his other injuries and he's just beaming like a 10 year old in a candy store. I don't think they even remember that I'm here. I cleared my throat trying to get there attention but I was only able to grasp Kyles.

He looked at Becks and then at me and then behind me for some reason. His facial expression fell and he began to pull her off gently. "Hey Becks. Don't get me wrong, it's always been my dream to have a hot Latina women touching my body all sexy like, but maybe we shouldn't do it with an audience."

His eyes were still behind me and Becks gaze was there too. I decided to turn around and see what there were looking at. And I was met with all three Mancini boys in the lunch line staring at our table. Mike looked furious.

Becks rolled her eyes. "I could care less about those, pendejos. After the shit they pulled, they'll be lucky I speak to them after this group project." She said with an annoyed tone with her attention back on Kyle.

The sudden pull of the chairs next to me made me jump. I watched as Tate and Tim sat on either side of me. I glanced over at Becks, her attention was still on Kyle, as Mike moved to the seat on the other side of her.

The silence at the table was deafening. You could have heard a rose petal fall on the ground.

"Here." Said Tate as he slid a paper over to me. I took it from him and flipped it over. And saw my once black and white sketch beautifully colored in. The background was a beautiful emerald green. And the three hearts sat in the middle of the paper casting a shadow making it look like they were sitting on something like even though there was nothing there. The hearts on the outside looked like they were cover in black tar and the black from both side slowly began cover the beautiful red heart in the middle. The head in the middle looked like it was a illuminating light, but it was slowly getting snuffed out by the darkness that was now surrounding it.

Though the drawing was simple before the way he gave like to it with color and texture mad it seem alive. "Wow...this is beautiful." I murmured to myself.

The paper was suddenly snatched out of my hand by Becks. She looked it over with a smile. "Looks great. Can't wait to see the final product. You will two work well together." She said with a smirk as the paper began being moved around the table.

"Yeah me and little owl here are good match, aren't we buddy?" He said as he put his arm around my shoulder engulfing me into him. I was now flushed against him and I hadn't realized our size difference until now. My body stilled and my cheeks were aflame.

"Little owl?" Tim said questioningly.

"Yeah. It's his new nickname for her." Becks said with her smile getting larger. I rolled my eyes at her.

"Cause of the staring??" Mike asked still giving glances between Kyle and Becks who were still giving flirty looks here and there. I'm pretty sure Becks could feel him staring, but she's just choosing to ignore Mikes presence completely.

"Yep. Cause of the staring." Tate said as he patted her shoulder. I finally gather the courage to move his arm from around my shoulder. I slowly scoot away from him. He began scooting closer to me.

"Why are you moving away, little owl? We are friends, we should be close?" He said as scooted closer trying to put his arm around me again. With out thinking I punch him in his side, and scooted away from him again.

He winced in pain. "Fuck, little owl." As he held his side. I scooted back over to him and placed my hand over his worriedly.

"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to-" I was cut off by his laughter.

"I was joking. I fight for fun. That little hit did nothing to me." He said with a wild smirk. Before I could respond Becks quickly called attention to her.

"Speaking of fighting for fun. What the hell happened between you two and Kyle and Thomas?" She said with a with venom in her tone.

The table was now quiet as a mouse. Kyle, Tate, Tim, and Mike sat in silence. I could see Kyle, Tate, and Mike tense. Tim just looked like he wanted to be anywhere except at this table.

"Hey, it's not that big of a deal. Let's just-" Becks cut Kyle off with a wave of a hand. He was immediately silenced. She stared between Tim, Tate, and Mike.

"If you want to start off this so called "friendship" with lies. I suggest you leave my presence now or spill the beans." She said her gaze landed on Mike and there eyes were locked in. She refused to back down from his gaze. The table fell even more silent than before.

Tate let out a breath. "Fine. I'll tell you. You remember the day you guys came over to our house." He said.

Me and Becks responded yes. "That was the same day that you told me Thomas cornered little owl and threatened you. So I told my brothers and we decided we'd handle the situation. Of course, Tim wasn't involved, due to the fact that we didn't want to put his scholarships at risk so he just stayed in the car. We met up with them outside the diner in the back near that opening in the forest. And Kyle here saw that his brother and his boys was getting snot beat out of him so he wanted to help him and he got caught in the cross fire. Sorry about that, again." He said and gave Kyle an apologetic look.

Kyle shrugged. "I can't be mad. I would've done the same if he wasn't my brother. Me and mom try to tell him that he needs to stop acting like a piece white trash, or one day he's gonna piss off the wrong person. And that day came. But despite all that he's still my brother." Kyle said quietly.

"I told you guys that I could handle Thomas." Becks said quietly.

"We know." Mike said.

"You can. But she can't." Tate said as he glanced at me. "Your not always gonna be around to help her. So might as well nip this in the butt now before you or her gets hurt in the process." He said. My blood boiled. Everyone knew this wasn't about me, but here they go, using me as the scapegoat.

"My brother is a lot of things but he wouldnt attack an-" before Kyle could finish Mike cut him off.

"Mental manipulation and ignorance and cruel words are just as bad as beating someone to the inch of there life. Words hold weight. Threats hold weight, even if there empty. You of all people should know that." He said as he locked eyes with Becks again. Kyle stayed silent.

Becks slowly rose from the table and began to walk off. I began to walk after her but then stopped. I turned to the table. "You guys need to respect her wishes. If she says can handle it, she can handle it. And please don't use me as an excuse to vent your anger on other people cause clear you didn't do it for my benefit or safety. Tate, I'll meet you at your house same time as last time. And Mike, if you want to get back in her good graces, you need to get to know her again. Cause if you knew her you would've known that's not how she would've wanted to handle that situation." I turned and was about to leave until I heard Mike speak.

"Coming from the girl who didn't even know who her guardian was." He said under his breath. I was gonna turn and say something but I decided to ignore him. I wanted to get to Becks before she was too far away. So I just walked away from the table and went after Becks.

It didn't take long to find her. She was in the bathroom near the cafeteria. Staring out the window. "I'm fine." She said.

"You sure? You kind of left pissed off." I said walking up to her.

"Only Mike knows how to make me that upset. He's just so.....infuriating. And stupid. And...And....Ugh." She said as she began to pace the bathroom.

"Don't let it get to you. They thought they were helping, at least they are trying. Though they are doing it in the stupidest way possible, you need to give them the chance to know Rebecca."

"They barely knew Robby...." she said in a whisper.
