《His Name Was Tate》my truth

The car ride was silent mostly because we were blasting music. Once we got to the diner we were quickly sat in the same booth we sat in last time.

"What you craving?" She asked excitedly.

"I'm not sure.....Maybe some burgers." I said. The atmosphere was extremely awkward. Probably more awkward than usual. Should I ask her why she agreed on going?

"Hey.-" we said at the same time. We couldn't help but laugh. I looked at her and I could tell she was nervous about asking me something too. It probably about earlier.

"You go first." She said with a sheepish smile. I nodded.

"Why did you decide to go to the Mancini's today? I'll be honest I wasn't expecting you to say yes." I said. She seemed surprised by my question.

"What?" I asked.

She shook her head. "Out of all the events that happened to day that what was on your mind? How I was feeling about going to the Mancini's house?" She said as if she was shocked.

I nodded my head. "What else's would you think I'd be thinking about? I mean with you and there history are you sure your ready to be in that house after so long?" I asked.

"Wow. You really something mi amor. But to answer your question, no I'm not ready. I'm even more terrified to see Mr. Mancini. However, mi tia told me that I need to stop holding grudges and being so angry about my past. She says that holding that anger will do nothing but hold me back from doing great things. And honestly, she's right. So this is going to be my first step into healing my own heart. By forgiving them. And I mean all of them." I nodded.

"Ok. Just don't let your hairs down completely. You know just to be safe. Make them work for it." I said. I could understand it. She doesn't want the beginning of her new life to be filled with animosity and hate from her past one. So by forgiving the people from her past she can truly look to her future. I couldn't help but smile at how mature she really was.

"Are you guys ready to order?" The waitress said. We both said yes and proceeded to tell her what we wanted. We both needed getting there house burger, but of course she got a milkshake and a grilled cheese as well. One thing I can say. She has an appetite. Soon after the lady left, Beck brought her attention back to me.

"Now that we cleared that up. Now for my questions." She said

"There are multiple?" I asked. She nodded her head yes.

"Number 1. Why was Tate walking with you on you way back to me and Kyle?" I could feel my cheeks get warm. I shrugged my shoulders in response.

"I honestly have no clue where he came from. He just kind of popped up out of nowhere after I left the bathroom. Then he just followed me to the entrance." She rolled her eyes.

"Ok. What's with the 'little owl' pet name he gave you?" She asked with a smirk.

"I guess he using that because he can't remember my actual name." I said.

"No. He knows your name. But a little fact I must tell you. His favorite animal is an owl. Meaning he might think your cute." She said

My jaw dropped. "What!? How can he like me when he can't even remember my name, Becks. Like seriously, the dude called me Merlin at one point." I said

"He always teases the people he likes. But once you get to know him he really is just a big ole teddy bear." I rolled my eyes. She laughed at my now, flustered appearance.

Once her laughing died down, she seemed she had one more thing to ask. "This is the last question. You can answer it or not. It completely up to you." She said worriedly.

I nodded my head. "Are you sick?" She asked. "From the few days that I've known you, I can tell that your not exactly fighting fit. When ever we walk a lot, I can tell that your breathing is really uneven. Like your struggling to breathe or something. And when at our sleepover, there was an ass load of meds in your cabinet. When I looked them up they were medication for the heart. And then today.....like I said you don't have to answer."

A breath I didn't even know I was holding just released from mouth. But surprisingly I wasn't sad that she found out, I'm actually a little relieved. There was no point in lying. I nodded my head.

"Yep. I have a heart of a 87 year old man, who did crack all his life. I've had a shitty heart with a lung to match. Been that way ever since I was a kid." I said.

I could she wanted to know more but she didn't press for anymore questions. And to be honest I'm happy she didn't. Cause to tell her the whole story right before we had to go into the demons den, would be too much for either of us to handle.

"I promise I'll tell the whole story another time. Just not today." I said with a smile.

I could tell that her yes were watering, but she held back. She just nodded her head. "Ok. I think that's enough tough shit for today ." I nodded in agreement.

The waitress came by with our food in hand and set it down in front of us. We ate our food and tried to talk about anything else's but me.
