《》Chapter 13: All Good Things Must Come To An End

I look at myself in the mirror once more. I'm wearing my vans again with a washed out pair of blue skinnies. A charcoal grey, button down t-shirt. My glasses are on, my contacts were irritating me again, so I took them out- I think I need a new prescription. My grey beanie, with my messy brown hair peeking out. I'd like to say I look good, but I'm not sure. But it's too late to change now, he'll be here any minute. Why do I even care? We are only two friends hanging out- I'm just nervous, I've never been friends with a jock before.

Ding dong. The bell rang, I half jump down the stairs, then realise it won't be cool if I answer it looking desperate. So I smooth out my shirt and put on a chill façade. I stroll up to the door and casually open it with a small smile.

"Hey," I say, causing a distracted Damian to turn around. He has a phone pressed to his ear, but once he sees me- he loses all of focus in it. Quickly, realising it was still on, "sorry, I have to go now "he excuses himself and hangs up.

"Hey Noah- you look good" he says approvingly.

"Um, thanks," I say "you do too". Which he does. He's wearing a black, tight fitted t-shirt that shows off his toned physique with dark blue skinnies and black high tops.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to make this awkward, it's just- you do. But don't worry this isn't a date! We're just two dudes hanging out." He replies quickly trying to assure me he has no ulterior motive. Why does it feel like my stomach has disappeared and there is a small lump in my throat?

"Yeah, I didn't think this was. So um, where are we going to eat? I'm starving!" I say and my stomach growls in agreement. He smiles a mischievous smile.

"It's a surprise." He leads me to his car and for a moment he just stares at the front of it as if he is lost. Then he moves towards the passenger side of the car, then opens the door to me. "After you," he says gesturing me in. I look up in confusion as he does this "sorry, I just couldn't help myself" he mumbles.

"It's cool, I'm lazy so it's cool" I feebly try to smooth the awkwardness out of the air. We settle into the car and he asks me what I want to listen to. I just shrug. Some strange, beat music begins to play. Something that sounds from the 80's and was better left there too. "What is this song?" I ask casually, intrigued by the random pick and kind of confused as to why Damian would like it.

"Small Town Boy by Bronski Beat" I look at him curiously waiting for him to elaborate, "this is all a mix of my dad's favourite music. He had an eccentric taste shall we say, well he left this mix of songs, on a CD in the car. I haven't had the heart to take it out, so instead I've just listened to it on repeat since my dad died. I now, could tell you the order and lyric to every song on this CD backwards," I laugh. "What? I'm being serious," and it's that fact- that he is serious- that makes me laugh harder. "Do you think its dorky?"

"No, I think is sweet. Omg! Is this a thousand miles by Vanessa what's her name?" I can't help but burst into hysteric laughs now.

"Carlton- and yeah, don't blame me: my dad was a bit of a romantic. It gets worst he has like Taylor Swifts' Love Story and crap like that."

"Don't you dare diss Taylor!" I nearly scream.

"Wait, don't tell me you're a Swifty?" I glare at him, "hey I'm not going to lie – Blank Space is quite catchy- but if you tell one person..."

He quickly tries to cover up.

"Let me guess: you'll kill me? Which only shows, you aren't a true Swifty!"

I can't believe this guy- isn't even proud to like Taylor. I'm questioning us being friends now.

"I was going to say, you'll be paying next time.... But if all you see me as is a brutal killer- I guess we can go that way. "

"Next time-huh? Jumping the gun a bit aren't we?"I tease, ignoring the rest of his statement.

"Yeah I guess, I was hoping at least there will be a next time." Silver mumbles sheepishly.

Before long we arrive at a little hole in the wall kind of place. "This is the best burger place in town," Damian says excitedly.

"Okay," I say following behind him. The restaurant itself was a little on the shabby side. But over all had a cute, quirky feel. The tiled floor and random pictures on the wall created a very busy atmosphere. The entire place looked a little strung together, with random tables, odd chairs and a strange layout. But the entire place was clean, happy and filled with an acceptable amount of people considering it was before the main dinner rush.

A young, Caucasian women seated us at little table by the window. The place was entirely lit by lanterns or candles. However, our table was a little off the main area -so all the light came from an arrangement of candles hung on a low shelf above Damian's head. It was cosy and quite secured so I instantly liked it. There was just something about the audacity of this place that made it homely.

After placing our orders. Silver looks up at me. "So what do you think?" He says gesturing around us.

"Honestly, I love it!" I say in true awe.

"I thought you'd like it."

"How did you find this place?"

"My sister found it actually, she used to make me come here all the time. I haven't exactly been able to come here alone. So I haven't been here in ages, but I thought you'd like it so why not?"

"Here was me thinking you'd take me to five guys for burgers or something generic like that. But no, your original man."

"There's a lot you don't know about me Mr. Hunt."

"Well, I'd like to know it." He just stares at me for a moment in silence. Finding the silence unbearable I have to break it:"what?"

"That's the first time you've shown any interest in this relationship- friendship-whatever at all"

"Well I'm here aren't I?" I joke.

"Yeah, I guess," Silver says, turning solemn.

"Don't go getting quiet on me boy. I want to get to know you. So that involves you talking." He smiles at me and I feel a little lighter with his smile focused on me.

"Well, what do you want to know?"

"I don't know: when were you born?"

"November 17th 1998, you?"

"May 5th, 1999"

"Aww, you're a young one- okay my turn to ask you a question."

"Technically, you just did"

"An original question. My turn for an original question. So your favorite food?"

"Sushi, yours?"

"Chicken pot pie. Least favourite food?"

"Sprouts-any form, you?"

"Pickled cabbage."

As Silver was about to set up another round of questioning our food arrived- piping and gorgeous. This place really did do amazing burgers with an incredible range of different fries in quirky flavours and shapes.

"So what's your favourite music besides Taylor"

"Anything really except screamo."

"Dang it, I want to take you to this screamo concert next weekend!" Silver Says as he hits the table.

"Really?" I ask puzzled, why would he think -me of all people would like screamo.. He likes screamo....

He chuckles"of course not- you have to be seriously Emo to like that stuff."

So we played a few more rounds as the dinner progressed. Once we were done, Damian paid like he said. We exited the building and I began to head back to the car.

"Hey I know a great ice cream place a few blocks- if you don't mind walking?" Silver offered hesitantly.

"I'd love to, burn off a few calories before I gain more" I laugh.

So we start walking up the road, side by side. It's all quite nice, he's so much easier to talk too than I thought. Surprisingly, we have a lot in common but there have been a few times when I had to battle with him. Like when he said the Harry Potter films weren't the best movies ever and prioritised the Fast and Furious franchise. Though I admit those are so good too, especially how they dedicated the seventh to Paul Walker.

So we continued to play our little game. We ranged from our favourites to our dislikes. So I ask, "what's your least favourite colour?"

"You can't dislike a colour."

"Uh, yes you can!"

"Okay, what's your least favourite colour then?"

"Easy, brown."

"What's wrong with brown."

"It's icky."

"Icky? Really what are you, three?"

"What? It's icky!" I protest.

"God you're cute."

"There you go again..."

"There I go again-what?"

"Making this not date seem date-y."

"Would it be so wrong if it were a date?"

"Well we're two guys..."

"So you're homophobic ?"

"No! I'm just not gay."

"But if you were gay?"

"Then of course it would be okay... But you wouldn't be my type."

"Oh, I wouldn't be- would I?"

"Nope"

"How would you know? You're not gay! How do you know what your type would be?"

"I know I wouldn't never be attracted to tall, dumb jocks."

"Oh, so I have to be a short, smart nerd."

"No, not necessarily- you would have to be able to keep up with me."

"I can keep up with you!"

"Only cause I'm dumbifying everything I say."

"No, you're not. But it doesn't matter anyway-you wouldn't be my type."

"You're the one who keeps calling me cute"

"I wouldn't want cute- i'd want Sex-God!"

"Really? That's all you care about? Now you see how I could never go for a guy like you?"

"Yeah, cause you could never have someone like me."

So the night went on and on. It just sort of filled up without me noticing the time. The sun had set and it was late before either one of us thought it was smart to head home. But it had been a great night, I enjoyed all of it. The jokes, banter and food. So I wouldn't mind spending more time with Damian again- that was for sure. We could be friends, it was fun being his friend. I couldn't join his group, or go to his parties. But things like this I could handle.

"You don't have to walk me to the door."

"But I want to and I'm already out of the car."

"Yes, because you insist on opening and closing my door for me."

"Well, I want to make sure you get in and out safe."

"I'm not retarded, I can manage a car door."

"Well assisting gives me a purpose."

"Oh, yes, I forgot- the whole reason you were put on this world is to assist me."

So like he wanted, Silver walked me to the door. "So bye then," I say stupidly. This was all too awkward.

"Good night Mr. Hunt"

"Good night Silver!"

I stick out a hand for him to shake but he goes in for a hug. We end up awkwardly colliding. So we both end up pulling away hastily and trying for the opposite. This too ends up in an awkward collision.

"Oh, d'ya know what?" Damian grumbles as he leans down and places a soft peck on my cheek. "I'll see y'a around Hunt," then he spins on his heels, and walks back towards his car giving me a friendly two finger salute over his shoulder. Whilst, I'm just left staring after him- gaping. What had just happened?

I finally regain control over my body and begin to unlock my house door. I enter my house to be met with my worst nightmare.

"Where in the world have you been?" He spits. "Being gay with a BOY!" Then there's just the loud crash of something hitting the floor.
