march 2nd.
( changed domonique's mother name.)
"Alright, ma. Everything you need is inside of the diaper bag. I won't be gone for long, I can't believe I'm about to leave my baby." Domonique spoke, placing the carseat on the couch. "And could you not have people around herI'm not comfortable with your friends."
I nodded. "Don't worry now. I got everything and won't nobody be up in here. Go ahead and help Isaiah recover."
"Call me if you need anything" She smiled, removing the blanket from the carseat and carefully unstrapping the small infant, pulling her out of the seat. "Have fun with grandma, baby."
Reaching my arms out, I waited until she placed Skylar into my hands. "Oh hi there grandma baby" I softly spoke, glancing up seeing Domonique leave the house.
Right when the door shut some siren must've went off because, Skylar immediately started crying. It was like a switch went off and she knew she wasn't with her mama. I stood up from the couch and started rocking her back and forth. Unfortunately, I never experienced this with Domonique. I'd be high from something or drunk and that would usually drown her cries out. I wasn't going to do that to Skylar though. I made a promise to be the best grandmother ever and that's what I plan on doing.
10 minutes later.
"Skylar, SkylarIf you keep crying your going to make yourself sick now." I sighed, still rocking her back and forth walking around the living room. "You want your bottleThat's what the problem must be."
Walking into the kitchen I opened the fridge with my freehand and pulled out one of the bottles. Taking the bottle back into the living room, I sat on the couch and carefully gave her the bottle. Her cries stopped just like that. Next thing I knew the phone started ringing. I thought it would be Domonique but it wasn't.

"Hello" I spoke.
"Is Domonique there with you" The males voice came through the phone. It was Nasir. Him and Domonique haven't spoken in a while according to what she's told me.
"No, she isn't. She's at the hospital with Isaiah."
He cleared his throat and his tone got more serious. "Isn't he dead"
"No, he isn't. Why would he be dead Nasir"
"You don't need to worry about that knowing you'll go mouthing off to Domonique. Speaking of her how is her pregnancy going"
I bit the bottom of my lip not knowing if I should tell him about the baby or not. It wasn't my place to but then again, it's also his grandchild too. "I'll go mouthing off to Domonique about something that she would need to knowWere you planning something and it just happened to go wrongAnd, she actually had the baby already. Her name is Skylar."
There was a moment of silence through the phone. We both didn't say anything. It was so quiet you could hear a pin drop.
"I'm coming to visit." He finally broke the silence.
"I don't think that'd be a good idea. Domonique doesn't want anyone around Sky."
"Bullshit. I'm her grandfather, I'll see you in ten." Those were the last words to come through before the line went dead.
iMESSAGE.
❤️
ur father just called said he's coming to see skylar. he'll be here in 10mins, do you want to come get her or..
🙄
WTF!
🙄
DON'T let him in. i'm on my way now, hopefully i beat him there.
MESSAGES OVER.
After reading Domonique's message I was concerned to know why exactly she didn't want Nasir to see Skylar. Him and Domonique have always had a close bond, what's so different nowI couldn't come up with any reasons why things would be different. Nothing was coming to my mind at the moment. But the only thing I knew I needed to do was keep Skylar safe. By the time I was done with my thoughts, she was done with her bottle.

Taking the bottle from her, I placed it to the side of me and held her up softly patting her back. The burp I was looking for came almost instantly along with a knock at the door. Domonique couldn't have gotten here that fast. I walked up to the front door and glanced through the peep hole. It was Nasir. Without clearly thinking this plan through, I put Skylar back into her car seat and placed the car seat into the coat closet. It wasn't the best hiding spot but she'd only be there for a moment. I didn't put the blanket on top of her so she'd be able to breathe.
Closing the closet door behind me once every trace of Skylar was inside, I walked to the front door opening it slightly. "You just missed her. Domonique was already on the way and came to get her."
"You're lying." He shook his head, pushing the door open and walking inside looking around. "Where is she"
"I told you she left." I shrugged. "Domonique came and got her what don't you understand"
"Tell me where she is." He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small baggie. "You want thisIt's all yours if you tell me."
Nope, resist it.
"Nasir, get that shit out of hereI said she left so that means she fucking left."
"Aight, I believe you. But, I know you wanna hit this shit Tommie. Since she ain't here there shouldn't be no problem right"
❛❜
an hour later.
"MA Come on now and open the door." I softly yelled as I continued to bang on the door.
I don't know why she wasn't opening up and I was beginning to get scared. Every second that passed was starting to make me more and more nervous. I searched around the front porch for a spare key and finally found one in the floor pot. Unlocking the door I walked inside and was greeted by loud ass music. Closing the door behind myself, I looked to the couch and I couldn't believe my eyes. My mother was strung out, completely out of it. I quickly rushed over to her and snapped my fingers in her face.
"Where is SkylarWhere the fuck is my baby" I tried screaming over the music. It wasn't working, she ignored me and looked off to space.
I walked over to the radio and turned the volume all the way down. My worst nightmare has came true, all I heard was Skylar's loud wails. I followed them which lead me to the coat closet. Now why would she be in there in the first place? I quickly opened it and picked her up. Her body was hot and her face was bright red. I'm not sure how long she was even crying. Tears began streaming down my eyes as I rocked her back and forth. I couldn't believe I had put this much trust in my mother and she turns around to go back to drugs.
There was nothing I had to say to her. I put Skylar back into her car seat once she had calmed down and grabbed the diaper bag, swinging it around my shoulder. I picked up the carseat from the handle and walked straight out of the house. To say I was mad was an understatement, I was livid. I don't want anything to do with her ever again. She really fucked up.

March 16, 2021 - Hiatus note: I will come back to this story! I'm really struggling with it, though. It's been a number of years and I kind of forgot what the original outline was. I still remember the main path, but not any of the details, because I stupidly didn't write an outline. Progress is being made. I'd like a very decent sized buffer before I start posting again. Don't want to get hopes up only to immediately disappoint! ----- Amy Barnes, an aspiring chemical researcher, finds herself dying from cancer. One of her most desperate prayers is answered in a way that she'd never dreamed possible, and she finds herself living a new life as a dungeon. Warning: Violence, morbidity Cover: Taken from here, courtesy of www.pexels.com by photographer @tookapic. Author's Note: I've read some dungeon core stories on here, and they've tickled my fancy. I've thought up a whole story, start to finish, and thought it'd be a blast to put it into words. Other than the violent and morbid aspects, this story is suitable for children. Aside from the vocabulary, that is. I will avoid the temptation to have any cursing, sexuality, or gore. Excessive gore, I suppose - it is a dungeon story, after all. I’ll do a little research from time to time, but this story will not have a great deal of rigor. I’ve made Amy’s knowledge comparable to my own for that reason. There’s a few things she knows more about than I do, and a few things that she knows less about. Unlike me, she doesn’t have access to Google - it’s a non issue for her to be more knowledgeable than me, on occasion :P This story does not use the same magic system that I’ve used in either Sorcery in Boston or A Summoner’s Confession. This one is mostly intention based, and designed to be easier access for people who are more used to the idea of, “It’s magic, therefore it works” kind of thinking. Do note that Amy is, in most senses of the term, overpowered. This goes along with the usual dungeon core stories. She’s not more powerful than other dungeons per se, but she does have knowledge and intelligence that puts them to shame. I thought about doing this in a LitRPG style, but systems take balance, and I wanted this to be pure fun to write. This story was inspired from a few sources. Despite the title, it wasn’t really inspired by Of Mice and Men, though some of the themes match. Rather, I’ve taken inspiration from a few dungeon core novels on Royal Road Legends for the main idea. Many conventions of dungeon core stories have been perverted from the genre, however. I’ve taken my usual science-loving self to town to play around with the powers, and I can only hope you have half as much fun reading this as I have had writing it.
