Jungkook couldn't help but to be on the verge of crying as he listened to Taehyung's words.
For the very first time, he was the one heart broken in this relationship.
He wanted to explain, he hoped for Taehyung to play along with his 'story' and have a talk later in the janitor's closet to explain that Eunbi was the one who started it and kissed him without his free will, that he just happened to soften up for he was afraid of pushing her away and making her angry in confusion, because he knew that out of all the girls they spent time with, Hoseok liked her.
Taehyung looked away to hide his pitiful face from the public. A small part of him wants to take back what he said, because there's still this tiny care for Jungkook inside his heart.
But he was broken inside, and he knew he can't bring back the way their relationship has been.
"Sorry for assuming that we were in a relationship, Jungkook." he said in a regretful tone, he thought that the last gift he could give Jungkook was a supporting detail to his made up story.
Even though they both knew that those eight months, every single moment they spent with each other, were all true.
Those caring kisses they gave to each other's cheeks and lips whenever one is stressed.
Taehyung's warm hugs and how Jungkook responded by snuggling against his neck.
The way Jungkook sexily teased him by kissing and lightly sucking his collarbone, and Taehyung lightly pinching his cheeks and sides telling him that he's still a baby and he shouldn't do that.
Those moments where the sanitation worker almost caught them, but they hid at the back of the shelves giggling and trying to shush each other's mouths.
It was all over now.
Jungkook opened his mouth as if he wants to say something, but he can't think of certain words right now. He was too hurt and shocked at the same time.
As he feared, his friends were looking at him with pure suspicion.
He looked at the two who just came to the scene, Seokjin and Jimin.
Seokjin was trying to push himself into the crowd, in attempt pull a crying Taehyung into a big hug to comfort him, even though he had no clue what was going on.
Though Jimin was looking at Jungkook with such judgement, as if his eyes were saying;

"What did you do to make Taehyung cry?"
Of course, Jimin cared a lot for Taehyung so he can't help but to give an intimidating glare, which gave chills to Jungkook's spine.
Looking for help, scanned the people around the place, hoping to find someone who would back him up in this situation.
But as he looked at the small group of people, everyone shared the same expression. A mixture of confusion and disgust on their faces.
It made him remember about an event in his past.
flashback.
"Kookie, look up from that paper for a second and watch a short film with me..." Taehyung said in a sweet tone as he fixed Jungkook's phone that served as their 'mini television screen'.
"Just a minute, hyung." Jungkook replied as he tapped the pen against his head, glaring at the stack of papers on his lap.
Taehyung got curious about what he was doing, giving up at persuading Jungkook, he walked to his direction and gave him a surprise back hug.
"What is that?" he asked, but the other quickly flipped the papers so the content would not be seen.
"N-Nothing!"
"Let me see."
"H-Hyung!"
Jungkook had no choice but to let the older see the papers that he has been hiding, after being tackled back first to the ground. He bowed his head in shame as he heard Taehyung shuffling the papers one by one, examining them.
"You got a five on our english exam?"
"...sorry." Jungkook whispered still looking at the ground. "I-I'll study even harder."
"Why are you keeping your papers from me?" Taehyung sat beside him and asked in a soft tone while massaging his hand.
"I-I was afraid you'll j-judge me too..." the other replied as he stared at Taehyung's hand squeezing his. "O-Our group had a study session lead by Namjoon hyung. All of them got good scores compared to mine. I could see the disappointment in their eyes. Gosh, I feel so dumb—"
Taehyung made him silent by hugging him tight once more and shook his body lightly.
"Cheer up, you're not dumb. Just because you failed this time doesn't mean you're going give up, right?"
Jungkook was touched by his words, he immediately looked up at him and smiled back.
"I won't. I'll impress you one day with my test scores, you'll see."
"Maybe stop playing games late at night and focus on reviewing your notes, that would be a good start, wouldn't it?"

The younger pressed a soft kiss against Taehyung's cheek, telling him how he's so thankful for having someone like him to always remind him how to study smart.
"You're so nice hyung, I love you so much."
"I wouldn't ever give you a discouraging stare. I'll always be by your side whenever you need help."
end of flashback.
Back to the present, Jungkook was scared because of Jimin's stare, he was in pure fear. On instinct, he pressed himself against Taehyung, only to be roughly shoved away.
"H-Hyung..." that's what he wanted to say.
But he can't, because he knew he fucked up big time.
The only person who ensured to stay by his side no matter what happens, left him.
The cold blank stare that Taehyung gave him didn't help to lift up his spirits.
And there, right in front of the crowd, Jungkook covered his face with his palm and cried.
Taehyung could hear the other's every strangled breaths, if it were a normal situation, he would run and give him comforting kisses like he always did.
But they were over, Jungkook was basically a stranger to him now.
Taehyung shut his eyes tightly, preventing another batch of tears flowing out of his eyes and ran out of the scene, allowing his feet to carry him wherever.
As he sprinted, he heard distant voices from his back, telling him to stay or 'wait up', but he didn't listen. Instead, he ran until his legs couldn't carry him anymore.
He found himself in an empty park. He sat on a clean swing and wiped away the tears that continued to fall, no matter how hard he tried to stop them.
'I feel bad about what happened, but I think now is the time to make myself happy.' he thought as he waited for the sun to set.
But he can't help but to feel depressed after seeing the bracelet Jungkook gave him as an advance birthday gift.
He wanted to rip it off and throw it far away, but his body wouldn't let him.
Maybe because deep inside him, he still loved the younger.
Sighing to himself, he removed the bracelet and placed it into his pocket to keep it away.
"... what a waste, we could've been official on new year's night."
Later that night, nobody spoke about the event that happened in the courtyard.
Taehyung thought maybe because the people who witnessed it felt like it was a sensitive matter that should not be opened.
But also that night, he heard rumors that somebody from their school fainted and was taken to the hospital.
-
Even with all the stress he received earlier today, Taehyung was trying to sleep in his bed. Though he failed after a certain someone hugged him from the back.
"Ju—" he quickly bit his own lips. 'What am I thinking? Jungkook and I are over now.' he thought the rest.
"If you ever need a shoulder to cry on, I'm here to listen."
Jimin's words cheered him up a bit, he couldn't help but to let out a silent laugh.
"Thank you, Jiminie. But I'm fine now." he replied, he wasn't actually fine, but he wanted to make the other less worried.
"Don't feel sad, okay? Your birthday is the day after tomorrow, you should be happy."
"What happened earlier was the perfect birthday gift." Taehyung sarcastically said and laughed, but deep inside, he was still hurting.
"I don't really understand what happened earlier. But based from the people I asked, is it true that you and Jungkook were previously friends but your friendship gave you a wrong impression?"
"... yeah." was all Taehyung replied to make the conversation short. He didn't want to complicate things for Jimin, he himself also didn't want to be reminded of what happened earlier.
"Sweet dreams, then. Don't think much about it."
Jimin gave the other a friendly good night kiss on the cheek, before moving out of Taehyung's bed.
But before he could even step out, Taehyung pulled him back, making him hover above him on accident.
"I-I want to forget about what happened earlier."
"Why are you telling me this?" Jimin tilted his head in confusion, but his questions were answered after Taehyung attached their lips together softly and closed his eyes, he decided to do the same.
Taehyung was overwhelmed by his own emotions, he couldn't help but to pour it all out on Jimin.
As they were kissing, Jungkook didn't even pop on his mind, but neither did Jimin.
He was just trying to free his mind from all the stress he was feeling right now.

The Last Science [SE]
[SE has the same content as the original story, split into smaller chunks for easier reading. This story is on a temporary hiatus due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. I work in healthcare and unfortunately no longer have the freetime to continue posting on a regular basis. As soon as our workload decreases, I will return. Thanks for reading! 💙] No one ever knows the whole story. Deep in the forests of the Pacific Northwest, the fading town of Rallsburg stumbles upon an amazing discovery—magic itself. Faced with potentially world-shattering power, the people of Rallsburg keep the secret for themselves. Led by Rachel DuValle, a perpetually underestimated college student with grand ambitions, they seek to found a new society. The world beyond suspects nothing, but magic cannot stay hidden forever. A train arrives in Rallsburg carrying Alden Bensen, a directionless high school graduate. To him, magic could represent meaning for his life, an explanation for his empty existence. This potent force offers anyone the power to change humanity forever—or send it cascading into swift and total annihilation. The Last Science is an ongoing science-fiction / low-fantasy web novel series, focused on the modern world with a twist. New societies bud and grow, but the people who make them up are imperfect and flawed. The story includes elements of mystery, action, crime, interpersonal drama, relationships, philosophy, sociology, politics, and much more, all centered on the perspective characters driving the tale. This is the "Scraps Edition" of the story, where the chapters have been split up into bite-size chunks (roughly 1500-3000 words), for your convenience. The prose has been edited from its original form, with some improvements, but there are no content differences from the original. New chapters will be posted throughout each week starting on Friday and appearing on multiple days thereafter, depending on the length of the chapter. Content Warning (by request): This series delves into some topics and situations which may be upsetting for some readers. In American rating parlance, the narrative would be rated PG-13 (except for language), but some have noted the story can get pretty dark on occasion. Gray's Crucible
“The value you have brought to trade is immense, more than a thousand fold what any other traveler to Crucible has ever produced. More than even I produced during my journey.” The old man paused for a moment here, seemingly reluctant to continue. After a few seconds he begins again with weariness creeping into his voice. “As the Messenger of Crucible I have received the value of your life. You shall be awarded a body with potential equaling the value you have brought to this place in accordance with the laws of the higher realms. Now you shall depart for Crucible, but first; I, Jaze, will give you some advice.” The old man, Jaze, he had named himself paused a time. Time enough that Gray began to wonder if he was still present, when he suddenly continued in a low and serious tone, “You will undoubtedly have great potential Gray of Earth, but it is still only potential. What could be is not necessarily what will be. If you step foolishly in my world, if you can not live up to the potential you have bartered for, Crucible will crush you mercilessly and tear away your very soul.” A thought, cheerful and light was heard from Gray before his presence was sent rocketing away like a shooting star. “I’m looking forward to it.”
