Natsu pov:

I groaned. Waking up to a splitting head ache was the worst….

I felt something cool around my neck and I felt like I wasn’t in my jeans and t shirt. I opened my eyes and saw the ground in front of me. I sat up taking my hands for support and rubbed my head. I blinked and looked around me and saw about 40 women and children around me in torn and tattered clothes and having something like a metal collar on their necks.

Surrounding us were about 10 men wearing armor and having swords and other weapons with them. I frowned and looked down at myself. I also had a collar on and I was in a tattered kimono. What was going on? One woman and child were sitting next to me and I looked at her. “Um, excuse me? Where are we? Who are all these people?”

She gave a sad smile. “Oh dear, these men are fox demons and all the women and children here are captured for slave trading.” I frowned. “Slave trading? Demons?” She looked at me skeptically. “Wasn’t your village attacked? All of our villages were attacked and the men were killed. The women and children were taken as slaves. We will be sold in the black market in a few days.”

I rubbed my forehead. “So let me get this straight. We were captured by demons and we’re gonna be sold to other demons?” She nodded and I bit my lip in confusion. Since when did demons exist? Had I come to another dimension or something? That seemed to be the best possible explanation now. And I knew I would have to keep low. If they were demons, it meant that they would have some kind of extra strength or power or something, right? That’s what I remember reading in mythical history in library books.

And eve though I was a very practical person, I felt I should trust my instinct this time.

I looked around again and saw a boy about 10 years old who was sitting alone by himself. By the looks of it, he was also a slave. He wore torn clothes and had the collar. But what caught me was that he had 4 black feather wings sprouting from his back and he was curled up in them and it looked like he was crying. I felt my chest get tight seeing a child crying.

“You shouldn’t bother with him.” “Huh?” I turned back to the woman I had spoken to earlier. She had a look of disgust and I frowned. “Why not?” “That child is half demon. Nothing but a plague to this world. Neither human nor demon….disgusting creatures.” She scowled and I looked back to the kid. He looked so lonely, so afraid and this idea of a half demon being disgusting was so ridiculous.

If my theory was correct, then being a half demon meant that one parent was human and the other was a demon. Didn’t that show that a true bond could be seen between 2 completely different creatures? It showed that love didn’t need to know anything about racism. Love was free and anyone could be loved by anyone. How could someone call a half demon a plague? A symbol of such pure love?

I sighed and got up. One of the men who were surrounding us ‘prisoners’ sent a hard stare at me, but didn’t say anything as he realized I wasn’t trying to escape. I watched the kid curiously, tilting my head slightly and approached him. “Hey, are you ok? Whats wrong?”

When the kid realized I had come close to him, he spread out his wings and sent a glare so intense. I wavered but didn’t move away. He was thin and small. He had black hair and golden eyes but the white part had turned red. He was glaring and I heard the gasps of the people behind me and they whispered rude things about the kid. “Its ok, I wont hurt you.” I said softly and gave a smile.

“I don’t need sympathy of a demon or a human!” The kid spat in anger and I noticed the hurt, anger and fear in his eyes. He was so scared, but anyone could be fooled by the glare he had. I crouched in front of him and smiled again. “You’re a strong kid, you know?” He watched me suspiciously and I could see he was desperately trying to stop from breaking. “W-why are you talking to me? I’m a h-half demon….everyone hates me….” He mumbled softly.

My eyes softened and I placed a hand on his head. “I don’t see why people hate you. I think you’re a very cute kid.” His eyes widened and he looked at me. “Y-you don’t hate me? I wont fall for your tricks!” He shouted defensively and I chuckled. “I’m not tricking you. And I have no reason to hate you.”

His eyes filled with water and the reddish glow of his eyes disappeared. He rubbed his eyes and sobbed softly. He wailed and I felt my eyes sting too. He was so young….so innocent, so pure but had no one to reach out to. “T-they killed mama! T-they took her away from m-me! Papa d-died and mama was k-killed! And everyone hates me!”

My eyes went glassy and I just moved closer to him and brought him into a hug, careful not to hurt his wings. He cried into my chest and I patted his head softly. “Its ok….shh….I wont let anyone hurt you anymore.” I mumbled and my eyes went slightly wide as his wings slowly retracted into his back, and all that was left was 2 tears in the back of his shirt.

I held him closer and let go after he had calmed down to soft hiccups. I cupped his face in my hands and he looked at me with his tear stained face. I smiled and wiped the tear. “Better?” He nodded and then clutched my kimono. “What you said….do you promise? Will you be with me….ne chan?” I smiled and poked his nose. “Yes! I never go back on my words.” He smiled and I felt he was really a cute kid. He threw himself at me and hugged me around the neck.

I chuckled. “So what is your name? My name is Natsu.” He let go and smiled. “I’m Kaito!” “Nice to meet you, Kaito.”

We had been walking 3 days ever since I woke up from being kidnapped. I felt like we were moving farther and farther away from my crash site and it made me feel uneasy. I didn’t know where I was but I was able to understand a little bit of this place as I spent my time here.

This place was full of demons. All shapes and sizes and of varying power. And humans were pretty useless….well except for some.

The entire time, Kaito stayed with me and we always walked while holding hands. He hid behind me when any of the demons or other slaves walked near us. And since I had befriended a half demon, no one spoke to me.

And finally after these days of travel, we had reached the black market. The whole place was bustling with people, most of them being demons and we were led into a room behind a stage. “Ne chan, I’m scared.” Kaito whispered and I patted his head. “Don’t worry, I wont let them separate us.”

The auction for the slaves started and first all the kids went off. A demon came to take Kaito away and I kicked him in the stomach. Immediately, we were surrounded by 4 demons holding swords at my throat. “I wont let you separate us. If you don’t want me to fight and struggle, he will be sold to the same person as me. We go as a pair.” I glared.

“That’s enough.” I heard a deep voice and another demon came out of the shadows. He looked like the boss and I stared at him dead in the eyes. After a staring contest, he chuckled and smirked. “You’re a brave one, aren’t you? Very well, we’ll let the half demon brat stay with you.” He chuckled and walked away with his hands behind his back. Kaito clutched me around the waist and I smiled. “See, I kept my promise.”

After some more time, the women were sold off and it was our turn. I didn’t show it but I was really nervous. What kind of people would we be sold to? What would they do with us? Why did things turn out this way?

We were dragged by chains and pulled up onto a dais and there were a lot of other demons standing there. Most of them had sick grins on their face and they eyed me from top to bottom. There were 3 other girls on stage and they were crying and shivering, but I tried to look defiant.

“Another human girl, paired with a half demon dark angel child. The human is feisty and the half breed is weak.” I clenched my fist in anger at my sides. I looked at all the demons out there and I felt my stomach churn as they called out prices. “30,000 ryo for all 5 on the stage!” A shrill voice screeched and I looked at the source.

The demon looked like an overgrown frog and I raised an eyebrow. Really now? “Lord Sesshomaru will have all 4 of those slaves for 30,000 ryo!” Most of the demons bowed and I saw a man with long silver hair and piercing golden eyes appear behind the frog. He had magenta stripes on his cheeks and a crescent moon on his forehead.

In a nut shell, he was gorgeous. Too perfect to be true.

“Sold!” We were pulled off stage and chains attached to our collars were handed to the frog. The money was paid and we were pulled along as the silver haired demon walked away and the frog followed.

I watched him curiously. Who was this guy? And what did he intend to do with us?
