"So what's going on with you?"
Matty rolled her eyes playfully at the sound of Charlie on the other line. It had been days since they've last spoken through the phone, the usual good morning and hey bitch messages were sent daily, but a call? It's a miracle if they have the time to call one another.
With Charlie finishing up his college, to Orson's modeling career, to Matty's newfound hobby which was streaming, it was hard for the trio to keep in touch. But they always try. Their friendship is that type of friendship where they don't talk daily but when they do it's like nothing's changed. A simple distance or three to five days with no calls doesn't define how tight-knit their group was.
"Well, streaming has been going well. How's school, Char?"
"School's great— Now tell me how's it going with Karl." He rushed. Of course he would ask. If it involves anything about relationships, he always wanted to know.
Matty scoffed and laid flat on the carpet adorning her wooden floor. It was already nighttime when he called and Matty liked lying on the floor when its nighttime. The floors seemed much cooler and surprisingly more comfortable than a bed or her couch. She doesn't know why or how, but it works.

"Nothing's going on. You're reaching too much here, Char."
Nothing is going on. They never interacted outside social media, it was for the streams only. Matty planned to keep it that way.
Karl's a nice person. He was... adorable but Matty can't see him as something more than a friend.
Were they even friends? They never talked... so can it even be considered as friendship?
Charlie objected loudly, "Nothing?! Bitch, I'll have you know that those interactions means something."
Thoughts began to jump around Matty's mind. It means something? What?
Matty paused from snacking on some sliced apples with a peanut butter dip on the side. Her appetite was replaced with curiosity. Does it look like something?
"What do you mean? Nothing's going on between me and Karl. We don't even talk outside twitter."
There was silence.
"Are you joking?" Nope.
"No I'm not. We don't talk if that's what you think—"
"Then what's with the interactions? THE EMOJIS. THE FLIRTING IN THE COMMENTS?!" Charlie whined.
To say that he was rooting for a potential something was an understatement. His disappointment was through the roofs.
"Has he really not messaged you or anything? Like nothing? NADA?" He tried yet again. Maybe she was just messing with him, maybe not, but he just really hoped there was something going on because as he once said, 'none of us get any action and it's embarrassing'
Matty chuckled at her friend's distress. There was a hint of dismay evident in her voice, something she didn't notice or just chose not to. "No, Charlie. He hasn't... His friends though, that's another conversation."
"Are they good-looking?"
"Of course you'd ask that."
There was a moment of silence. "Well are they?"
Matty let out a loud laugh, "My god, you whore. I met Quackity once, not in real life obviously but Sapnap? Just met him today. Don't know what he looks like though."
"Is Quackity cute?"
"Yeah he is. Why'd you ask?"
"Can't a guy ask if his best friend's friend's friend has looks?" Charlie defended himself. Matty rolled her eyes.
"Well," Charlie started, the teasing tone he always used when making fun of anyone showing itself, "If things don't work out with Karl at least we both know that there's a Quackity to fall back to." He sung jokingly.

"No! Oh my god, you're an asshole." Matty laughed, covering her mouth to muffle it. She knew he was only joking so there was no point in getting all worked up about it. "And besides, I'm not planning on dating anyone and you know that. You on the other hand—"
Charlie lets out a noise of protest, "Hey! I'll let you know that I haven't met up with anyone! And I, myself, am not open to the idea of dating anymore. I'm a changed person."
Matty hummed, not buying what her friend said. "How's that girl, Annie, the one you met in that coffee shop a couple blocks down from your school?"
"Ghosted me, as usual."
Matty genuinely gasped in shock. She'd remembered Charlie ranting to her about Annie. With her purple hair and a fucking cute smile I thought I was gonna die, Matty. She was certain that something was gonna happen between the two. She guessed wrong.
"No way."
"Yes way."
"How about that guy um Jack! From your History class?"
"Girl, I was not into him." Charlie chuckled before letting out a yawn which made Matty look at the time. It was 6:30pm for her so it was 9am or whatever for Charlie.
"You still sleepy?" Matty yawned quietly too. Her eyes feeling droopier now that she became aware of the time. It was too early for sleep but she did quite a lot today. An early bedtime didn't hurt as a reward.
She started off her morning at 5am, only getting 6 hours of sleep. Was it healthy? No, but she wasn't going to wait for herself to go back to sleep so she did what she had to do and left the comfort of her bed. She started working out again, something she'd forgotten during the start of the pandemic. And to think that she actually has more time to go and start working out nowadays, something she complained about not having before the whole lockdown started.
"A bit but I have class in a couple of hours and I still have this essay to finish that's due today." Charlie said with a stressed groan, "Bro this sucks. I can't believe I'm the only one left to go to school in this group." He complained.
"Only a couple months more and your free from that school, Big C. You'd be grateful when you get a decent job in the future. Sometimes school can be important." She reasoned.
She didn't want any of her friends to lead bad lives, she'd seen how destructive it gets. Not having a stable future. The uncertainty. Which is why she tries her best to push Charlie because she didn't want someone she's close to to just throw their life away. School isn't for everyone and some people who became successful never finished school but it didn't hurt to have a backup. Life's like a bed, or whatever thing you wanna land on, you need something to fall back to.
"I hate that you're right." He sighed. There are times where he can't win over Matty and this was one of those times.
"I know—"
"Also, Big C? WHERE THE HELL DID THAT COME FROM?!" Charlie asked incredulously. Matty lightheartedly laugh.
"There's this little kid named Tommy. It's his influence."
"A streamer friend?"
"Kind of like a little brother."
"Matty."
"Charlie."
"That's cute and all but you know that I'm gonna have to fight that kid for stealing my title as the little brother." Charlie deadpanned.
"Green doesn't look good on you, bubba." Matty said.
"Yeah, it looks great on Dream." He replied. Matty choked on her spit and went into a coughing fit which amused Charlie for a minute before realizing that his friend could die from it, quickly yelling out a 'fucking breathe you bitch. you're not dying while on the phone with me'
"You don't even know the guy!" Matty exclaimed once she'd regained stability.
"I don't need to see him to know he's got looks and he seems like a nice guy, that's a plus point. Being nice makes a person looks attractive which brings me to another idea. Dream can be another contender if it doesn't work out with Mr. Karl I haven't messaged Matty Just Because Jacobs." He said, exasperated and trying to prove a point.
"Charlie! He is not obligated to message me." She defended him in between laughs.
"Matty!" He mocked. "Let me be cranky about this. It's 9am and my so-called Not Yet a Couple not making couple moves is annoying me."
"Well good luck with that. Have fun being annoyed for the rest of your life cause it's never going to happen."

Many Minded
Synopsis: Issa Pyxis, Spacer orphan and illegal heretic, graduated from living on the streets to running with a gang years ago, but now it looks like that’s all going to change. Her inheritance, more specifically who—or what—she is, is catching up with her, and on a planet with the Emperor’s inquisitors slinking around in every shadow, nowhere is safe and no one can be trusted. What will she do? A cyberpunk story about identity, loneliness, covert infiltration, evil dystopias, and much more! Features: - Cyborgs and cyberpunk galore - This is indented to be somewhat “rational” and “hard” Sci-Fi story - Original Fiction however parts of my worldbuilding are inspired by other Sci-Fi stories (duh) Rationale: The future is cool, AIs are kickass, and questions about consciousness are simultaneously existential and yet unanswered. To me, this story is a vehicle for exploring these topics, and also, I wanted to write a story where the protagonist was unafraid of themselves and where their self is more like a git-repo than a meat computer. Disclaimer: This story primarily takes place in what we’d describe as a “cyberpunk dystopia” with some extra technocracy, autocracy, and religious fervor thrown into the mix, so there will be some “grittiness” in this story. Caveat emptor. Also, [insert your favorite boilerplate “views expressed” disclaimer here]. I shouldn’t need to say this, but the main character and other characters in my story can be wrong on occasion (gasp!) and the way they view the world isn’t always objective truth (if such a thing even exists) nor do their views and opinions necessarily reflect the views of me, the author. If you are enjoying my novel, this is a link for my new novel : Magical Cosmic --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is a Science Fantasy story where technology will eventually change the civilization. A lot of Kingdom Building will be here as it will be. Despite the Kingdom Building, the MC won't be sitting in one place only. Although there is Comedy and Romance here and there, it wasn't the main focus of the story. The Harem tag in the story didn't mean a lot of bland 2D girl as even the first female MC was shown at chapter 21. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- P.S. The cover is only temporary
