《Growing Old》Awake

Izuku blinked his eyes open. He looked around, finding himself alone in a hospital room. The heart monitor beeped steadily, picking up pace when he sat up and grunted in pain.
A nurse ran in, forcing him to lay back down, "Please, rest. You've been out like a light for two days at most. Can I get you anything?"
"I-" Izuku felt his throat become hoarse and he gulped. "Turn the news on, please?"
"Of course." The woman spoke as she turned the tv on.
"Tomura Shigaraki was in critical condition when he was detained once again." A reporter said. "His accomplice, known as Dabi, was found dead in the battle. Along with Himiko Toga, who was shot on site after their attempted escape. No news on our heroes still so stay tuned."
"Anything else, Mr. Midoriya?" The nurse asked, setting the remote down.
Izuku slowly shook his head, "How are the others that came in with me?"
"Ah, right." The nurse smiled. "Pinky was quick to recover. She only needed some stitches and healers. Shoto just got out of surgery for a muscle fix in his arm, Chargebolt has a minor concussion and Ground Zero is..." She trailed off and took a deep breathe. "He's deaf."
"Is... is it permanent?" Izuku struggled to ask.
"At the moment, yes. We're not sure if he'll ever be able to hear again-" She stopped when she saw Izuku's face. "W-We're currently trying to find someone with a quirk to heal his hearing. If we can't, our backup is to prepare special hearing aids."
Izuku nodded as he gulped down saliva, "What about Aizawa? Eraserhead?"
"He's permanently blind in his left eye." The nurse mumbled.
Izuku sat back in disbelief, staring at the ceiling. He bit his lip, trying to hold back tears that wanted to spill over into his face.

"It's okay." The nurse whispered. "You can let it out. Heroes can cry too."
The greenette choked on a sob as tears flowed over his lids and down his cheeks. The nurse never judged, only wiping his tears away with a cloth when he let it all out. Mina appeared in the doorframe, looking untouched. She moved to the greenette's side and enveloped the crying hero in her arms.
"Come on." Mina mumbled in his ear. "I'm taking you to see Bakugo, okay?"
Izuku nodded, the nurse unhooking the clip from his finger. He got help to get out of the hospital bed and thanked the nurse.
