《Timeless》31

"Are you really sure you want to drive to San Francisco tonight?" Lindsey asks. He had picked me up from the airport and we just arrived at home, I'm on my Rock a Little tour, and my next show is in San Francisco on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Ruth invited us for Thanksgiving dinner, but we told her we weren't sure if we could make it. She's leaving the door unlocked for us anyway.
"Yes, your mother asked and I have to be there anyway. I think It would be so much easier. And Besides, Jeff's been dating a girl for a year now that we haven't met yet. I've heard great things about her from Ruth and I really want to meet her. I guess she's a big fan of mine and I gave Jeff some passes for the San Francisco show." I look at him, throwing my Michael Kors luggage back in the hatch that he just unloaded it from.
"As long as we trade off driving, it's going on eight and when we get there it will be around midnight. I've been up since five and I don't know if I can drive the whole way." He sighs
"That's fine. When you get tired I'll take over. Now go pack a bag and I'll get the children situated. We stop for gas before we get on the Highway and then we don't stop. Thanksgiving is tomorrow, and I want to make breakfast for everyone." I explain unlocking the house.
***
We got to San Francisco around one and the kids slept right through the car ride. I carried Mason in and Lindsey carried Sara. We got them situated in with Ruth, last time we were here they both slept in bed with her and they're going to do it again.
Sara woke me up at six like I figured she would, and they were watching cartoons while I made French toast. I was soaking the bread with egg and cinnamon mixture when I felt eyes on me, so in my black silk nightgown and bathrobe and my hair in a ratty Gibson, due to the perm, I turned around and came face to face with a beautiful, really young woman who was wearing a ratty shirt and a pair of shorts. She had gorgeous brown eyes and breast length light brown almost blonde hair. We locked eyes as I was taking a sip of my coffee.
"AGHH!" She screams, I jump and my coffee lands on the floor. The cup shattering.
All of a sudden many feet are heard running down the stairs.
"Steph are you okay?" Lindsey asks looking between the two of us. I just snort and laugh as I go to the broom and start cleaning up my mess.
When I'm finished I stand up and hold my hand out to her.
"You must be Christi, I'm Stephanie Buckingham." I smile as she shakes my hand.
"Holy Shit, Stevie Nicks. Jeffery, you didn't tell me your brother was the Lindsey Buckingham. As a matter of fact, you never told me your brother's name." Christi scolds.
"Sorry. I know you're a fan of Stevie's and it just didn't cross my mind. I don't really look at her as Stevie Nicks. She's been Stephanie Buckingham to me since before Fleetwood Mac was even a thing." Jeff explains.
While we are eating breakfast, we make small talk.
"So Christi, how did you and Jeff meet?" I ask.
"I don't want to tell you because you're going to think bad of us." She looks down sheepishly.

"I would not," I confirm.
"Well, I'm only twenty-one. Jeff's Thirty-nine. I um, I am interning at the coffee plant in the accounting department. I started when I was nineteen. I'm still going to college. San Francisco State. But, my grandmother absolutely adores him. I don't have the best relationship with my mom. She had me at sixteen and she wasn't really apart of my life and I don't even know who my dad is. It was hard when my mom left in seventy-eight. She moved to Paris and I haven't spoken to her since, but I fell in love with Rumours and I became a huge fan of yours. I think that's why he didn't tell me who is brother and sister in law were. I've made him listen to your albums countless times." She shrugs.
"Oh honey, if you ever need anything I am just one call away. Jeff has my number, if I'm on tour and you call the house I'll have Lindsey give you my hotel information. I will be here for you. Think of me as...your big sister." I smile grabbing her hand across the table.
"Thank you." She smiles.
Merridith, Christi, and I are puttering around the kitchen having made the stuffing, casserole, rutabaga, and the pies and potatoes. The only thing we have let to work on is the Turkey and any time we try to go near the roasting pan, Ruth glares at us.
"What's her problem? She asked us here and she knows us well enough to know that we'd help. Does she think I can't cook a turkey or something?" Meredith questions.
"She knows I can cook a turkey." I cross my arms.
"I think she's being territorial. We've made everything so far except the cranberry sauce and the turkey. I think she just wants to make them herself." Christi shrugs.
"You might have a point. Wine anyone?" I ask going over to the fridge and pulling out a bottle.
After dinner, and the children had gone to bed, we were just sitting around in the living room drinking hot chocolate and coffee when Jeff walks out real quick. When he comes back, you can read the nervous expression on his face like a book.
"Christi, I know your birthday is literally in like two hours but I want to give you your gifts now because tomorrow I know Stevie is going to take you Black Friday shopping and I think you should have these gifts so when you do go black Friday shopping you know what to look for." He blushes.
"Jeff, that made no sense." I chuckle sipping my hot chocolate.
"She's got a point," Christi smirks.
"Just open them," Jeff says handing her the pile of three gifts.
The first gift is a key to Jeff's house, the second gift is something I played a part in.
"It's Rock a Little, I have this album," Christi says looking at the back.
"I know but flip it over." Jeff sighs.
"To my sister-in-law. I can't wait for you to be a part of our family. Much Love, Stevie." She reads.
"Sister in law?" She asks.
"Christi, will you marry me?" Jeff asks getting down on his knee and opening a ring box. A very shiny silver diamond ring sparkling in the glow of the fireplace.
"Yes of course." She says tears filling her eyes.
He places the ring on her finger and they kiss as we all cheer.
"Now, let's listen to the record," Jeff announces.

"I don't think Stevie wants to listen to her own record." Christi shakes her head.
"NO, it's perfectly fine. I'd like to listen to it." I chuckle. Bringing my jean-clad knees up to my chest.
As soon as she pulls the record out, the two VIP passes I gave Jeff fall out into her lap.
"Jeff, these are for Saturday. Stevie Nick's last show. How did you manage to get them? All the tickets were sold out within like an hour of them going on sale." Christi shakes her head holding the passes in her hands.
"Christi, how did I get them?" He asks.
"Oh My God! You sister-in-law is Stevie Nicks. Holy Shit...I'm going to be related by marriage to Stevie Nicks." She looks to me and wraps her arms around me as we all laugh.
"You know though we're recording in your house we've maybe only seen your wife a total of four times." Mick sighs.
"I know, she's in her own little world. Tom Petty recruited her for a new song, she's baking for the PTA, and she's winding down from her tour. I can't get through to her. We only have one song of hers for this album. Welcome to the room, Sara. I love our daughter I really do, but we have a lot of songs about her. When we get two more songs we'll be done. It's annoying." I state slapping my hand on the sound booth.
"What's annoying?" Stevie asks coming downstairs.
"Nothing. DO you have any more songs?" I reply.
" I do but, I really have to make Sara's Christmas treats for her class party tomorrow," Stevie says.
"Steph, all we need is your backing vocals on a couple of the songs and your last two. I want to have this album done and be ready to tour in April." I sigh.
"I know, I'm sorry. Tomorrow I promise." Stevie says as we hear the oven ding. My wife bounds up the stairs and I lay my head in my hands.
"I'm sorry guys. We can't do anything else today. Why don't you just go home." I shake my head.
"Alright." Mick Smiles.
***
In April, Debra and Paul announced the impending arrival of another child. As Stevie and I were getting ready to go pick our children up, the house phone rang.
"Linds, could you get that?" Stevie calls from the bedroom. We're only picking our children up from school yet she insists on dressing up. We have a system, I get them to school, she picks them up. However today we have errands to run so that's the only reason we're both going.
"Hello," I answer
"Lindsey, it's Paul. Deb's having the baby, Could you pick Sam up for me. I promise to come get her as soon as the baby is here." Paul rambles.
"Yes, absolutely. Go become a dad again. I'll explain everything to Samantha." I chuckle.
"Thank you so much." Paul hangs up.
"Who was it?" Stevie asks wrapping her arms around me.
"Paul, Deb's in labor. We have to pick Samantha up." I tell her.
"Oh alright," Stevie states grabbing her purse.
Angeline Curtis-Mayview is Mason's teacher. It thrilled Sara when we found because Angeline was her favorite, and Sara goes and meets us there every day.
"Lindsey, Stevie how are you?" Angeline asks when she sees us walk up.
"We're good how was our boy today?" Stevie questions. She's gotten more friendly with Angeline since she got married.
"Mason was a dream but so was Sara. I won't ever worry about your children." Angeline smiles.
"That's good to hear." Stevie cheers.
***
Sara didn't show up at Angeline's door like normal, so after waiting five minutes we went to her classroom. Joe Berkly's room.
"Sara, I see your parents you're going to have to leave Samantha." Mr. Berkly sighs.
"No, we're taking Samantha. Her mom is having a baby." I tell him.
"So does that mean I get to stay over?" Samantha cheers.
"We'll see kiddo. Your dad said that he was going to come get you as soon as the baby is born so you can meet your new younger brother or sister." I smile taking Mason into my arms. Both of the kids are too big for Stevie to carry now.
"Alright, have a good Christmas everyone." Mr. Berkly shuts his classroom door.
"I don't like Mr. Berkly," Samantha states as we make our way down the hall.
"Samantha, that's not nice at all." Stevie scolds.
"But Momma, he's mean." Sara looks up at my wife.
"He may not be your favorite but he may be able to hear you. It's best to keep our opinions to ourselves. You're big girls now." Stevie replies.
"How does McDonald's sound four lunch?" I quickly bust into the conversation and change the subject.
"Yes, daddy." Mason cheers.
Samantha stayed the night and we were woken up by a phone call at eight in the morning.
"Buckingham residence, this is Stephanie how can I help you?" Stevie answers sleepily.
I roll back over and close my eyes.
"We'll be up and ready. See you in an hour." Stevie hangs up.
"Who am I getting up for?" I groan.
"Deb had the baby at two this morning VIA c-section. He was breech." Stevie explains
"So we have to wake the kids then." I groan again, crawling out of bed.
"Yes, we do." Stevie sighs.
The girls were eating Peanut Butter and Toast when the doorbell rang. Stevie puts her towel down and answers the door. Paul followed her in and he looked drained.
"Hi, daddy." Samantha cheers crawling off of the barstool to jump into her father's arms.
"Peach, you have a new little brother." Paul smiles.
"A BOY! I wanted a sister." Samantha pouts.
"Well, your mom and I can't control that. I'm sorry But we haven't named him yet we wanted to wait for you." Paul tells her.
"Can Sara come to meet my baby brother?" Samantha asks.
"If it's okay with Stevie and Lindsey and only if she wants to.
"Can I go, mommy?" Sara asks.
"I don't see why not. Paul, just call us when you're ready to get rid of her." Stevie says.
"Nonsense. I'll bring her back." Paul replies.
"No, you won't. We don't want to keep you from your baby longer than necessary. Besides, Stevie wants to go see them as well." I chuckle.
"well alright, Come on girls." Paul smiles.
After cleaning up from Breakfast, I got Stevie down into the studio and Tango in The Night was finally complete. We entered Deb's Hospital room to a whole bunch of people, laughs echoing through the hall.
"Well hello, Buckingham people," Deb says cheerfully.
"You're in good spirits." Stevie smiles, hugging her.
"I am on so many painkillers right now it's stupid. Paul has the girls across the street getting ice cream at the diner. These are some of our co-workers. Mrs. Hansen, and Mr. Mclean. Mrs. Mclean was actually one of my nurses last night." Deb explains.
"Buckingham, any chance you know a Greg Buckingham?" Mr. Mclean asks.
"Yes, he's my brother-in-law. I'm Stephanie Buckingham this is my Husband Lindsey. Greg is his brother. This is our son Mason, our daughter Sara has been here all day." Stevie holds her hand out to shake each of the other teachers.
"You guys are amazing, Big Fan of Fleetwood Mac. Deb and I are always the first ones at school in the morning and we blast it on the radio. Scott Mclean." The man introduces himself.
"Nice to meet you, Scott, I'm honored. If I wasn't in Fleetwood Mac, I'd be teaching English." Stevie smiles.
"So that makes an English teacher, a science teacher, and two math teachers in this room right now. Those poor kids." Scott laughs.
"Yes. So Deb, where is the handsome little boy?" I ask shifting Mason's weight. He fell asleep on the car ride over.
"Right over there, sound asleep." Deb points to the cot next to her.
"Can I hold him?" Stevie asks.
"Of course." Deb smiles.
Stevie's face lit up as she was holding the baby.
"Did Sammy come up with a good name?" Stevie coos.
"Sam AND Sara came up with Micah John Byron. Paul and I helped but they ultimately chose the name." Deb smiles.
"Well, it certainly fits. Hello, Micah." Stevie smiles.
"Stevie Lindsey, Paul and I were talking and we want you two to be his godparents," Deb asks.
"We'd love too," I answer for Stevie.
"Hi daddy," Sara says walking into the hospital room.
"Hey, sweet girl." I cheer
"Did you ask them?" Paul questions.
"They said yes." Deb nods as Paul hugs me lightly.
Christmas came very quickly after and looking around at my family, I knew what my final decision was going to be.

A Castle in a Teacup
One might say that to anger forces beyond the ken of fragile breakable mortals is a bad idea, others might say that meddling in dark forces with little chance of gain is also a bad idea, they would both be right by on all counts but they forget to mention also how incredibly stupid combining both of those things are. Stupid people don’t last so long on the mystic side of things, normal folks who wander over to the other side have a tendency to do one of two things, either A. figure out that the best thing to do is keep their head down and not draw attention from any entity that refers to humanity as “you mortals” , or B. something horrifying happens to them. As you may have guessed I fell into the second category, mostly because I thought there was a third option. See I though there must be an option C, an option where I got to end up not as some shitty back ally wizard cowering at the chance of discovery, praying that one of my wards or spells wouldn’t be noticed by something that goes bump in the night. No I would be the one who rose above all that. I would never have to be afraid. Well I made a good attempt at it that’s for damn sure, but unfortunately for me it turns out there is not an option C. At least not for me…
