《Timeless》16

Sara is turning four and we're celebrating six years of marriage. It's crazy how time flies. Stevie is edging on four months along. We told our families at Christmas, Christmas was also when we found out that Meredith and Greg were currently in couples counseling which didn't come as a shock to any of us.

We start recording our Third album today, and Stevie is slightly starting to show. You have to really look and know her body to see the difference. But she's showing none the less, which makes me so happy because I missed it when she was pregnant with Sara.

Watching Stevie detox from the cocaine was painful for both of us. There would be times when she was downright nasty towards both me and Sara, she spilled a lot because her hands would shake so badly, the night sweats got so bad she ended up sleeping on the cold wooden floor in the living room one night. And, we never knew if the vomiting was from the detox or the pregnancy. We're guessing the pregnancy. But she's clean now and that's all that matters.

It's been a difficult day already and it's only nine in the morning. I'm reading the morning paper and Stevie is fussing around with Sara.

"Baby please, just eat your oatmeal. Momma's not feeling good right now." Stevie says drying her hands on her brown and cream dress.

"But I don't like it." Sara pouts.

"Sweet girl, you used to love eating oatmeal. I didn't make it any different." Stevie sighs.

She's still throwing up, and from what she's told me she didn't throw up period when she was pregnant with Sara. And she's just so tired. Sara hasn't helped much. In the past month she's developed immensely, Robin and Stevie both having a background in Speech Pathology have worked on her vocabulary and she's broken out of her little shy shell. She's a firecracker and I can't tell if she got it from me or her mother...Probably her mother.

"It tastes like Blah." Sara shakes her head.

"Blah, Sara Rhiannon...Do you want to put strawberries or something in it?" Stevie asks laying her head in her hands.

"Strawberries," Sara says.

I get up and stop Stevie. I grab the strawberries and cut them up placing them in the oatmeal and when Sara's content I wrap my arms around Stevie and she sobs into my chest.

"I'm sorry." She cries.

"You're okay." I rub her back.

"I just don't feel good and we have to start work and she's being stubborn." Stevie sniffles.

"What did you do?" Robin walks in and stares at my sobbing wife.

"He didn't do anything. It's hormones." Stevie says pulling away and wiping her eyes with the tissues we have sitting on the counter.

"Hormones? What do you mean hormones?" Robin questions.

"I'm pregnant." Stevie smiles.

"WHAT! How come the two of you don't try but fall pregnant anyway, but Kim and I have been trying for years and we're having NO luck." Robin sighs.

"I'm just that good." I squawk.

"Good at what?" Sara interrupts.

"Nothing!" All three of us yell at the same time.

"Hello, Hello anyone home?" Mick yells.

"In the kitchen," I yell

Our three band members walk in and Sara climbs off the chair and runs right to Christine.

"Hello, poppet." Chris smiles picking her up.

"Sare, are you done?" Stevie asks looking at our daughter.

"Yes, momma," Sara replies.

"Alright, now Sara, mom, and dad have to go to work. You'll stay up here with Aunt Robin and Ginny." Stevie explains going to retrieve the half-empty bowl.

The white poodle runs in at the sound of her name and Stevie plucks a chunk of Strawberry out of the bowl and squats down to feed it to the dog.

"Are we waiting for anyone?" I ask opening a bottle of water.

"Ralph, our Warner exec," Mick says.

"Oh, that' s right. He's coming to check out the studio." I state wrapping my arms around Stevie.

We make small conversation until the doorbell rings.

"Daddy, can we get it?" Sara asks.

"Of course, sweetheart." I smile taking her from Christine.

Opening our double oak doors, Sara and I come face to face with Ralph and Carol...

"Oh Lindsey, your house is remarkable on a hill and by water. I could hear the stream walking up. I would just die to live here." Carol gushes.

"Stevie and I built it. It's going to be in our family for hopefully a very long time. Come on in. Sara and I will show you around. To get to the studio we have to go through the kitchen." I lead them in and Carol spots Robin first.

"Robin! How are you? I didn't know you knew the Buckingham's. I met them at your wedding, but I thought they were Kim's friends or business buddies." Carol coos.

"I've known Stevie since High School," Robin says, the look on her face clearly shows that she is not a big fan of Carol's.

"Sara sweet girl why don't you and Aunt Robin go into the living room and play with your toys," Stevie says as I put Sara on the floor. She grabs Robin's hand and heads to the living room.

"And remember Sara Rhiannon...If you make a mess, clean it up." Stevie points. We've got the kid well trained.

"Okay, momma." She says pulling Robin away.

"Strict mother aren't you." Carol grits.

"No, my child knows rules. Something I'm not sure you do." Stevie spits.

"Why excuse me." Carol bellows.

"Ladies, if you two can't get along making this album is going to be very long. Carol recently got a promotion. She'll be monitoring your recording process and keeping me updated on your progress. Now, shall we check out the studio." Ralph says.

Having been given the okay, we hop right into recording.

"It's funny that you under-stood." Stevie sings.

"Isn't the melody different?" I ask plopping at the Piano.

"Yes, but I just changed it. Under-stood just flows better." Stevie says.

"Okay, if you say so," I say.

A month passes, and Stevie is now five months along. It was like overnight when she just popped. You can definitely tell that she's pregnant now. We've only been working on the album for a month, but in the next few days, we'll have a photoshoot because Stevie doesn't want to be too big for our promotional pictures. As we're in the studio recording Stevie's writing in her journal when she stops quickly.

"Lindsey, come here." She says.

"Are you okay?" I question.

She just nods and places my hand on her stomach. All of a sudden, I feel a nudge against my palm.

"Stevie, that was the baby wasn't it?" I ask.

"Well, I'm not growing an alien." She chuckles, then out of the blue we hear something shatter upstairs and a howling cry.

All of us bolt upstairs and Robin is crouched down Sara's hand wrapped in a towel, red soaking through.

"What happened?" I ask as Stevie takes Robin's place.

"I was washing the dishes and the next thing I know she was dropping the plate. It shattered and she tried to clean it up." Robin says in a panic.

"Alright, Lindsey you and I will take her to the hospital. Robin, clean the mess. John, will you come and drive? Lindsey, please pick her up." Stevie says eyes shining. She's trying so hard to hold her composure.

"Right, you and Mick keep working," John says to Christine grabbing the keys to the vehicle.

At the hospital even though our baby was calling for us, we weren't allowed to go back with her.

"Stevie are you okay?" I ask. She's been nothing but silent since we were brought here.

"I'm surprised you were as calm as you were. If my child got hurt like that I'd be freaking out." John says.

"I am, my baby girl is hurt and I can't do anything about it," Stevie says slowly falling apart.

"Mr. and Mrs. Buckingham." We hear a doctor call.

"That's us!" I say helping my wife up. It's been getting harder for her to get up from things.

"Sara is alright, She had to get several stitches in her hand. It's wrapped up and she shouldn't use it for a while It especially needs to be kept out of water. Do you want to explain what happened?" The doctor says

"We were working from home and we heard a crash from upstairs. We ran up and our babysitter was holding her hand with the towel. She said she was doing the dishes. Sara must have been trying to help her. She really is a sweet little girl." I explain.

"Alright, well you can go see her now. I'll be in, in a little while with her discharge papers and congrats on the new baby." The smiles. I glance down at my wife who's holding her stomach.

"Thank you." Stevie smiles.

We motion for John and we go into her room.

"Hi, Uncle John, Momma, daddy. I'm sorry I got hurt." Sara says sadly and sleepily.

"We gave her something for the pain, she'll be out really quickly." A nurse says.

When we get home, everyone coos over Sara and they leave. Due to her pain, I sat up with her most of the night. I was woken up around two thirty to the sound of elephants fighting with their tusks.

"Sara baby, what are you watching?" I ask as she crawls into my lap.

"Phants daddy. They fight with their tusks to get a mate." Sare replies.

Forever like her mother, she's a night owl, we fight with her constantly to get her to go to sleep at a decent hour every night and waking her up in the morning is even harder to do. There's no telling how long she's been awake.

"Do they now. Is your hand bothering you?" I question.

"A wittle. But the medicine makes me sleepy." Sara states.

"That might not be a bad thing. You'll have to go to school soon and you'll need to go to bed early. Come on daddy'll get you some medicine. Do you want to go to sleep with mommy in the big bed?" I question sitting up and pouring her a dose.

"Yeah." She smiles.

When we get upstairs, Stevie is fast asleep on her left side. We crawl into bed and Sara places a sweet kiss on her mother' s stomach and then lays her head on my chest and falls asleep. Just like she did when she was a baby.
