《Timeless》10

December is coming to an end. Stevie is still working. She went up like three uniform sizes and her wedding ring doesn't fit anymore. The good thing about that though, is that people are starting to feel bad for her and they've been tipping her really well. I'm still on the couch, as to be expected. But right before Christmas, which was three days ago, my parents delivered four large boxes and Robin.
The contents of the boxes included a crib, changing table, a dresser, and two new guitars for me. A new Gibson and a new Acoustic.
From Arizona, Jess and Barbara sent us a ton of neutral and knitted baby clothes and blankets. Some bottles, diapers, a stroller, and a baby carrier.
Stevie is crocheting a grey blanket and Ginny is getting reacquainted with the apartment. Stevie took her when she left.
"Lindsey, I know we have a song called Rhiannon, but don't you think that's a pretty name?" Stevie asks, laying dinner down in front of me.
"Sure it is," I smile scooping the pasta onto my plate. Sure the name is pretty but it's not my favorite considering we do have the song but the couch/futon is killing my back and I would like to switch places with Robin, who is occupying my side of the bed.
"Tomorrow is new years eve, what are we going to do? I'm off." Stevie asks as Robin just picks at her nails.
"Well, I was planning on going to the studio if you feel up to it. I'd like you to come." I smile.
"Okay, I've written several songs I'd like to get demos on. Robin will you be fine here by yourself tomorrow?" She smiles.
"I'll be fine." Robin shrugs biting into pasta.
At the studio the next day, we were enjoying ourselves. Actually, enjoying ourselves. Walking down the hall, I hear a very familiar guitar riff, a riff from Frozen Love.
"Angel come here." I wave Stevie over.
"What?" She asks rubbing her stomach. Our baby must be moving around a lot. She still won't let me touch it.
"Listen," I say
"That's our song." She says.
I open the door and we peep inside. There's a giant man headbanging to our song.

That night, I'm watching the ball drop from the living room TV and the girls are having some sort of spa night in the bedroom when the phone rings.

"Hello," I answer.
"Is this Lindsey Buckingham?" A heavy British accent rings through the phone.
"Um yes, who are you?" I question sitting down on the couch. Ginny hopping onto my lap.
"I'm Mick Fleetwood. I'm the drummer and leader of a band called Fleetwood Mac. Keith Olsen played me your song today to show us what kind of studio Sound City is. I'm going to be blunt with you. Our guitarist just quit. Your solo was amazing. I played it for my bandmates and we'd like you to consider joining us for lunch, so we can meet you and talk things over." Mick says.
"But I'm already in a group. IF you want me, you have to take my wife too." I say looking towards 'my wife's room' because at this point that's exactly what it is.
"I'll discuss her with the band, but we already have a girl singer. It'll be up to her. I'll call you back." Mick says.
"Alright," I say and he hangs up.
"Who was that," Stevie asks coming out of the Bedroom with Robin hot on her heels. A green face mask spread on her face and Nail Polish adorning her fingernails and toenails.
"No one important, they'll call back though they had to go do something." I sigh.
"Okay, oh tomorrow Robin and I are going shopping. One last girls' day out until the baby comes." Stevie smiles.
"My treat of course." Robin glares at me.
***
The next morning, they leave around eleven and I slowly roll off the couch to rummage through the fridge. There isn't much, so a beer will have to do for my brunch. I'm cracking it open when the phone rings.
"Hello," I answer
"Lindsey? It's Mick Fleetwood again." He says.
"Oh yes, we talked last night," I state.
"Christine, the other girl said that the only way you could bring her with you is if the two girls get along. We would like to get together to meet you guys over a meal or something if that's alright." Mick says.
"Oh yes, I'll tell my wife when she gets home. I'll call you back with a day when I know my wife's schedule and mine." I reply.
"Great." He states.

Mick gives me his number and then I wait patiently for Stevie to get back. They don't show up until later in the evening and they have a ton of bags and I gulp.
"Look Linds! Robin bought us a baby swing." Stevie cheers.
"Cute, Steph can I talk to you alone for a minute?" I ask. Robin and I haven't really been on good terms since November.
"Robin, will you excuse us?" Stevie asks.
Robin huffs but goes into the bedroom slamming the door, causing us both to jump.
"Do you remember that guy jamming to Frozen Love?" I ask her.
"Yeah, extremely tall guy." She nods.
"His name is Mick Fleetwood, He wants to meet us and talk about maybe joining their band," I say.
"REALLY! Oh, Lindsey, what do you know about them?" She asks
"Not much, just that they're really big over in England and they are trying to break through over here. I also know there's another couple in the band" I explain.
"I've gotta go get their records." She's digging in our couch cushions for loose change.
"ROBIN! WE HAVE TO GO TO THE RECORD STORE DO YOU THINK YOU'LL BE FINE ON YOUR OWN?" Stevie yells.
"Yeah!" Robin calls back.
***
Somehow, we bought all their records and Stevie played them back to front.
"Lindsey, we could so add something to this." She cheers. I just grunt and roll over to try and get more sleep. Our record player is in the living room and she isn't sleeping until she hears all these songs.
The day of our meeting comes, and I had to pick Stevie up right from the diner and take her to the Mexican place we're meeting.
"I feel like I could lose my job wearing this in there." Stevie sighs.
"Angel, you'll be fine." I smile opening the door for her.
We walk in and I immediately spot headbanger at a table with a man and a woman who looked pissed off at each other.
"Hey, you were our waitress this morning." The other man says standing up.
"Yes, French toast with strawberries and an omelet." Stevie smiles.
"John McVie, this is my wife Christine and my best mate Mick Fleetwood," John says shaking her hand.
"Stephanie Buckingham, this is my husband Lindsey, but I tend to go by Stevie Nicks when dealing with my music," Stevie says.
"Boys, why don't you go somewhere and bond and I'll stay here with Stevie. I ordered nachos we can share." Christine smiles.
"Oh but she's..." I start.
"I'm fine. Go." She says.
I give in and go to the bar.
"Well, now that they're gone. You're glowing." Christine coos as I sit next to her.
"I'm exhausted. Do you and John have any kids?" I question.
"No we've been trying but I found out I have a very little chance of conceiving. I mean it's there, it's just very minuscule." She smiles.
"Looking at me you wouldn't believe it, but the doctor said the same thing. I get really bad ovarian cysts and I have so much scar tissue on my ovaries from having procedures done to remove the cysts the doctors gave me a very little chance. This one was a pure accident, but I wouldn't change that for the world. So, I feel for you." I smile.
"It's tough. We've been fighting about it a lot though. John really wants kids. How far along are you?" She asks.
"Any day now," I say rubbing my belly.
"Oh, can I feel?" She asks.
"Absolutely." I smile.
"That's amazing. I can't wait to meet them. What do you think you're having?" She questions as the nachos are placed between us. I immediately grab a chip and start chewing. It's the first decent meal I've had in a while that wasn't food from my diner.
"I think it's a little girl." I smile
"Well she'll be gorgeous and a nice presence in the studio." Christine winks.
"Wait, we're in?" I ask starting to cheer up.
"Of course, I can't wait to meet that adorable little girl." Christine chuckles as I launch myself into her arms.
"What happened?" I hear Lindsey say and I start sobbing into Christine's shoulder.
"I told her that you guys got the job." She laughs rubbing my back.

Hacking Reality (A teenage Mad Scientist's story.)
Maya Williams was smart. For the first time however, she realized she might be a little too smart. At least if the fact that a gang had kidnapped her was any indication. But that didn’t matter, because she’d show them. She’d show them all!!! Just as soon as the voices in her head could agree on how to get out of this mess. --- Please Note: This is a version of a forum quest I run following a teenage Mad Scientest with heroic tendencies in the same city/setting as my other stories the Huntsman's Quest and Get Ink'd. Meaning that while a majority of the plot is made up by me, the major choices as well as what each chapter is about are usually made by the actual readers in forum votes. Additionally, given how this is essentially a story version of a Tabletop game there is also a background RPG system that while the characters aren't necessarily aware of, the readers can see these stats to know how each chosen 'Action' effects their character's development.

A Merchants Tale
Legends rise. Country’s fall. Empires wage war. But what supports these great powers, allowing them to function as a single organism. Is it the common man, Farmers and Millers forming the backbone of the land? The Soldiers and Guards keeping public order? The Wives and Widows supporting from the side-lines? The Nobles from their seats of power? Or the elusive Sorcerers who wield power untold? And what maggots crawl in this great creature, all trying to get a piece of its slowly decaying flesh. The gangs of the Underworld hidden in the shadows? The Bandits and Deserters hiding at the edges, ready to pounce on any weakness? Witches and Warlocks working their dark art? Or other Nations clawing at their neighbour’s, salivating over the riches they stand to gain from another’s demise. There is one group that belongs to neither group. They thrive on others misfortune and bring with them salvation and destruction in equal measure. They can raise a kingdom up or tear it down screaming and kicking. These are the merchants, the lifeblood of kingdoms, because what is the one thing above all else men crave. Is it Love? Power? Destruction? All these things can be acquired with one simple thing. Wealth. Wealth is the true power behind the world. Wealth can buy army’s, strangle kingdoms, and turn even the most devout man from his faith. Merchants come in many forms, shapes and sized, some gaudy, bleeding the people for all their worth, some tricky, preferring to make contracts and debts to trap men. And some desperate, doing all they can to sell even the most worthless of junk. This is a story of one merchant who goes against all a merchant stands for. He works not for profit but for some unseen goal, a prophesy aeons old. He comes and goes like a ghost, bringing with him hope and victory. All pray for his arrival to spare them from despair. But what about when he doesn’t show? What about the people he doesn’t save? For this man is no angel, no saint sent to save the masses. His goal was never to deliver hope. It merely isn’t time for their destruction yet. For nothing is eternal. And all things must end. But what comes after? Quick disclaimer in response to the review I got, this is my first story and somewhat of an experiment for me, hopefully my writing will get better the more I practice. Thanks for any helpful advice :)
