"Man, what the hell do we do?" Javi asks lighting up some grass.
"I don't know, it wasn't my fault Jodi quit." I spit guzzling back my beer and lighting up my own joint.
"We have to HAVE to have a female singer." Cal pipes in.
"Do we really need one I am perfectly fine singing on my own." I shrug.
"I know, but it's the principle of the thing. Your voice sounds better when a female is accompanying it." Javi states.
"Hey, Linds...what about that girl you sang with about two years ago. That small brownie blonde girl. She was pretty good." Bob suggests.
"Right, but she's also in college dumbass." I spit.
That chick was a one-time thing. She helped me sing California Dreaming At a youth meeting. To this day, I still can't get her beautiful brown eyes and medium length brownie blonde hair out of mind. However, I was too shy to give her any acknowledgment after that day. It was probably one of the reasons that Jodi and I broke up. After seeing that girl, I just couldn't deal with Jodi anymore, but we floundered for about another year and a half before finally calling it quits. Then she shacked up with Javi and eventually quit the band to go to college.
"Anyone who wants to be in my band needs to audition." Javi crosses his arms.
"Your band, since when did this become your band, Last I checked you joined last year when you were with Jodi. Besides, I never got her name." I blush and look down at my shoes.
"Her best friend is Robin Snyder. I saw them last night at the ice cream shop. If I can get her information will you call her?" Cal smiles.

"You want her so bad, you call her." I spit.
"Lindsey, she sang with you. If she's going to listen to anyone it's going to be you." Cal sighs.
"Whatever," I shrug. I finish off my beer and start my walk home,

Living a block away from Javi is nice when we're practicing. We use his house and garage, which is probably why he thinks he's in charge. But he's a pain in the ass.
My subdivision isn't the nicest place ever, it's mostly run-down single-story homes, but my dad is a big marketing exec, a coffee tycoon I guess. So, he bought a plot of land and built our home from scratch. It's the only two story, powder blue home with turrets. But no, of course, there's no garage. The plus side is it's only about fifteen minutes from the coffee plant he owns.
It's date night for mom and dad, they've been married for like twenty-five years and they still go out once a week for a date and it's been that way since I can remember. I just hope that someday, I can find someone that I can still do date night with once a week. It's idealistic and probably not realistic because I'm not the best when it comes to dates anyway. I've only really had two girlfriends, but Jodie was the one that I thought I would actually get somewhere with. Then there was the summer camp girl when I was like twelve. Then a ditzy chick when I first started High School, but that was about it.
They always leave me money and I always order a pizza. It's easier because I can't cook for shit, and it's just me anyway. Both of my brothers are at college. Jeff is at San Francisco State, it's about a half an hour from our home in Palo Alto. Jeff is the oldest, he's going for marketing. Greg my middle brother, is on a swimming scholarship at Stanford. He's also going for Biology. He won a silver medal at the Olympics last year. We were all shocked that he made it and was even asked to be on the US team and diving. It was a huge accomplishment for him and that was what ultimately secured his place at Stanford. Had I gone to college, I would've had a swimming scholarship as well, but I chose music. Which in turn 'broke my mother's heart' according to my Aunt Martha. My mom's sister who is a stuck-up bitch from Virginia. Southern charm and all that. My mom said whatever made me happy. Dad was just pleased because at least one of his sons would be able to carry on his coffee plant legacy, that would be Jeff. Greg and I have no desire to be in the coffee business.

Halfway through my cheesy meat pizza, and a bottle of beer the phone rings. I groan and chuck my slice into the box.
"Hello," I answer
"Stephanie Nicks., (835) 930 1011." It was from Cal.
"And how'd you get that?" I jot the number down on a pad of paper sitting by the phone.
"I'm wooing Robin. Speaking of, I gotta go. I called from a payphone. She thinks I'm in the bathroom." Cal abruptly hangs up.
Deciding I should call while it's still early, I dial the number.
"Nicks residence, this is Stephanie, how can I help you." Pure luck.
"Hi Stephanie, my name is Lindsey Buckingham. I don't know if you remember me or not but I..."
"California Dreaming!" She cuts me off.
"Yeah, I was very rude that night by not asking your name. You sang beautifully by the way." I blush and slightly thank God that she can't see me right now.
"Well thank you. I merely do it for fun but that was almost two years ago, why are you calling me now?" Stephanie asks.
"I got your information from Robin Snyder, I'm in a band called Fritz. You may have heard of them." I say smugly.
"I can't say I have." Shot down.
"Anyway, we just lost our female singer and we were wondering if you would come audition. We've hung up flyers around town, but I thought I'd ask you directly. California Dreaming and all." I chuckle.
"Well, I'll talk to my family and see. When and where?" She states.
"My drummer Javi's house, 231 Maple Avenue, San Francisco. December twentieth. From nine to noon." I reply.
"Oh, that's all the way across town, well, I'll see; goodbye Lindsey." She says softly.
"Goodbye, Stephanie." I hang up

8 506Journey of Infinite Steps
Science Fiction/ Low fantasy Iliad. Oliver just wanted a job that could keep his family fed, and himself sane. Was that so much to ask for? Apparently. As he instead ends up facing monsters and dodging his way to another world instead. Competent as he views himself figuring out how to reopen a portal back home by himself is defiantly above his knowledge base. Of coarse it would be vastly simpler if he could keep 'getting back home' as his primary goal. 'Staying alive' is unfortunately a far more immediate and relevant goal. I will post any content warnings on a Per Chapter basis. Divisive content will be as skip-able as I can reasonably manage Discord Link will be available for those interested in assisting editing/ coauthoring. Especially character writers/those willing to work out the math/ economies and world building even if only as a wall to bounce ideas off of.-----Full Synapsis contains serious spoilers----- Looking to take care of his family, Oliver finds himself flung into a faraway place. Try as he might, his Iliad will not be simple or peaceful as he'd like. Alas the slow and unending war of Chaos and Order has long memories and longer reach. If Oliver is to make his way back home it looks like He'll have to solve the universe one fight and mystery at a time. Especially as the Laws of Physics shift, often on a per world basis. Hopefully there is still a home to come back to.
