《Not Anyone | Vernon Chwe》Chapter 37 (Last Chapter)

The ring seated perfectly on her finger, as if he had just picked the ring that had the purpose of being hers. It had a decent amount of sparkle and she liked that about it.

Vernon stood up from kneeling and instantly wrapped his arms around her for an embrace. He was so relieved that he had already, and successfully done what he has been initiating to do for the whole day.

"I thought you were cheating on me with someone.", Liv said, drawing circles on his back with her finger.

Vernon's forehead creased, he was utterly confused but tried not to show it that much and hear out her reasons first. "What made you think that way?", He questioned.

"Because. . you seem like you were hiding something.", She started, and Vernon began to feel guilty because he made her think that way. "Like earlier when I approached you while you were sitting on the couch, you didn't want me to see who you were texting."

"Oh, that.", He softly chuckled. "I was texting Sean, asking him about. .", Vernon halted when the embarrassment grew on him.

And confused, Liv partially parted their hug to face him. "About what?"

Vernon looked away, biting his lower lip before he spoke again. "About. . how to. . you know, have a proper proposal.", and it was right at the end of his sentence when his eyes went back to looking at her.

"So, you mean to tell me you were asking your friend some tips to propose to someone the whole time.", Liv didn't bother preventing her grin anymore.

" 'Cause, he's experienced and he was the one who told me to go to him whenever I need some tips on these kinds of stuffs.", Vernon suddenly let out a laugh, at his friend for some of his bizarre tips and to himself for counting on his bestfriend on his own marriage proposal.

"When we get married, are you going to ask him for some tips too?", She asked, teasing him. "What about when we go on our honeymoon, are you going to ask him about how we should spend the night? Because I feel like you would."

Vernon pulled her closer to fully hug her again, her chin placed comfortably on his shoulder.

"Of course not.", He replied with a laughing tone, but not soon yet, she felt his warm breath brushing against his ears. "We have done it for so many times, why would I ask my friend for tips? We even have Leon now.", His voice was deep and low.

She stiffened. It was supposed to be just her teasing him, yet now, how the tables have turned.

"Our baby's asleep. You know what that means?", He whispered in her ear, his breath hitting her skin by every word.

Liv took a step back and broke the hug out of panic and he didn't hold her back, knowing where she would land. Her back hit the railings of the balcony, and in one swift move, both his hands went to the railings, holding her captive in between.

He didn't waste a second and pressed his lips against her, harsh but in the best way possible.

She couldn't really think of anything, all that was with her at that moment were her feelings, the butterflies and the way how his kiss makes her feel.

Vernon parted their lips in a one inch gap before whispering to her. "I was just going to tease you, but why do you always have to taste like this?", he questioned, and she could literally see the slight worry on his face.

Liv couldn't help but grin. "I guess I win the teasing game.", She replied in a low, purposely tempting tone, cupping his cheeks and was now the one who pulled him for a kiss thereafter.

Over and over again, she won't ever forget to think how great her life is already.

After seeing him, after being with him again, everyday didn't feel like real life, as if she was in a dream, those dreams she has in most nights when she'll go disappointed the moment she wakes up the next day. .

Yet, it made her even more in bliss thinking that it was the actual life she has, and someone just knew it the moment she laid eyes on him that he would be the one to give her that.

They stayed there at the balcony even after awhile. They stood in front of the railings, dazing at the picturesque view of the city, her head on his shoulder.

They were quiet most of the time, but it wasn't awkward at all, instead it felt so warm, tranquil and someone would wish that could stay like that forever.

Liv took a glance at Vernon before smiling as she tend her eyes back in front.

"Should we get back inside and sleep?", Vernon suggested, yet she didn't like the idea of breaking what they were in the middle of and so she she shook her head.

"I still want to look at the city for some more.", she replied, but it was just about twenty percent of the reason why she still didn't want to leave.

And frankly, she didn't think she would even get sleep if she does go back to the bedroom and sleep, because she knew that the moment she closes her eyes, her mind would instantly get flooded with thoughts, most of them about how he proposed to her that night.

"Alright.", That night wasn't like any other night, it was special for him and the same goes for her, and if he could, he would go to the extent of treating it like new year and not sleep even after midnight.

Vernon went back to being quiet for approximately eight seconds before he diverted his attention to Liv and had seem to realize something. "Oh, wait. You can't stay up late.", He said as his eyes went down to her stomach.

Liv realized where he was looking at and it quite surprised her that she was surprised over realizing that she was actually pregnant.

She laughed in disbelief. "Right. ."

Vernon gave her a smile, so genuine she could almost melt, there was just really something with him and all the smiles that he gives to her that makes her feel so treasured.

His eyes diverted down to her baby bump as he gently caressed it after. "I'm so excited to see her.", He said soothingly.

"Me too."

Now that he was there, nothing made her anxious anymore. When a lot of things made her uncertain when she was having her first born, it became different this time, because she wasn't alone anymore, and that she knew that Vernon would always be right there whatever the circumstances.

His hand slid to her's, enveloping his warmth around her cold skin, and for the last time, his gaze went back up to face her with the smile that never left his lips, before he started pacing to lead her back inside.

As they were nearing their room, Liv spoke out what has been on her mind for quite some time that night. "I'm craving wine.", She said, and that made Vernon halt to look back and face her.

"You know you can't.", Vernon replied, and realizing it even more, she was slightly disappointed.

She had a hunch that it was her pregnancy hormones that was making her hugely crave for wine, and it was just disheartening that it was something she wasn't allowed to have.

She knew that it wasn't acceptable for her right now to drink it as she was pregnant, but maybe if she told Vernon, perhaps he would have an idea to help her satisfy it or just to deal with it.

Liv stared at him with a pitied look, those puppy eyes and that subtle pout. To that extent, she just really wanted him to do something about her craving.

"Alright, let's go have something."

Liv made a victory dance inside her head, whilst Vernon changed their route from heading to the bedroom to going to the kitchen.

As soon as Vernon let go of her hand and left her standing at the kitchen counter, he went infront of the sink and opened one of the cupboards above, and she watched him as he grabbed two wine glasses.

Vernon stood across the kitchen counter from her, placing the wine glasses infront of her, both of them smiling at each other, only that he was the only one who knew what was going to happen next, or rather what's going to be inside her glass.

Vernon grabbed two things from the fridge: one that made her smile in delight which was the wine, and the other one that made her close her eyes with a chuckle and a joking sigh at the same time which was a box of milk.

He poured her glass the same amount of wine one put in a wine glass with milk, and his glass with wine.

"Cheers?", Vernon held up his glass of wine, and Liv clinked it with her glass of milk. It made her laugh, and at the same time admire Vernon more and more by the things he does for her.

"I suddenly remember the first night we had wine together.", Liv started, smiling as she recalled what happened before the night also. "We barely knew each other."

"But it was already days before our first encounter."

"Oh, yes, at the park—"

"It wasn't also that, actually.", He cut her off and smiled as he continued. "It was at the airport. I sat next to you, and if I remember right, you were obviously checking me out. Like so obvious about it."

"What? No. I wasn't.", She defended herself, though she knew that she really did check him out, she even called his body and his chest sexy the first time she saw him. Yet, she wasn't so sure about his assumption, she didn't feel like she was that obvious, or perhaps she was really just the one who feels that way.

"Then I saw you again at the lobby of the hotel, I was after you.", Liv's mouth made a slight part out of amusement. "And at the same day, we got on the same lift. You were covering your face with your hair at that time, but I just knew that it was you."

"IT WAS YOU!?", She was tremendously surprised, and Vernon just nodded his head in an uncanny way. She breathed out, blinking her eyes for a moment before she looked at Vernon in amusement then again, but now, even more. "You remember all this, yet at first, all along, I thought the first time we met was at the park."

Vernon took a sip of his wine before he let out a chuckle. "I had this interest on you at our first and second encounter, and when we got to meet at the park again, I think you had quadrupled the amount. The way how you asked about what language I was speaking, when you said that your brain was messed up and that you'll loose all your braincells, and when you told me that you felt what Dory felt.", Vernon's laugh was so sweet that it made her feel like as if those memories at the park were not as embarrassing as she always thought it to be.

How can he talk about her like that? She questioned herself that. When she always thought about herself at those times as a humiliation, he was thinking the otherwise.

"And then our next meet?", He placed his forefinger and his thumb on his chin, as if he was thinking but it was so obvious that he was just faking it as he knew very well what their next encounter was. "Oh! At the club when you were drunk and. . you proposed to me."

Liv's lower lip thrusted out, upset and in shame, yet Vernon's grin just grew even more by her reaction.

"You know what, I shouldn't have asked you if you would want to marry me, because you already did first.", He joked. He didn't mean anything he said at all, rather, if he could, he would ask her over and over again and hear her say yes for the same amount of times.

Liv lifted her chin. "Then why did you?", She questioned, pretending to be confident.

Instead of continuing to tease her, he walked around the kitchen counter to get to the other side to where she was and placed both his hands on the counter in between her, pinning her against it. "Because I love you so much."

His smile was just so big and contagious that she could just find herself mirroring it.

"I really don't get why someone stays mad at you.", Liv commented, knitting her eyebrows together as if she was deeply in question.

"No one does.", He answered, and then came after their usual staring at each other fondly.

She wished that it would always be just like that.

His eyes that would look at her, his lips that would form a smile because of her, the happiness that he would feel thinking about her and his everyday life that would revolve around her and their little family.

"Mommy?"

They both tend their attention to the little boy walking towards them, scratching his eyes while holding his little blanket.

"Do we need to cuddle and sleep with you too?", Liv asked as soon as Leon got in between them. He looked up to his Mom and Dad and nodded with his sleepy eyes, and it left them giggling by how adorable he was to them.

Who knew that it would always be them all along?

From all the coincidence that they would meet. All the feelings that they failed to tell. The misunderstandings that gave them space.

Them reuniting. And the little boy that bonded them even more.

Their past had a lot of events that wouldn't really be considered as something of a dream, yet like what she had said, if she magically goes back to where it all started, she'd be willing to go through all of it all over again as long as the present remains the same. .

. .because all she knew, he wasn't just anyone.
