《Not Anyone | Vernon Chwe》Chapter 33

The room had been so quiet for more than a long time than Liv had expected. She has never seen Vernon this silent before which in this kind of situation she put them was understandable but still quite unforseen.

He just had a straight face for-which she knew had way more depths than she could read with just by the outside.

"If you're mad. . Well, I'm sure you most certainly are, but please say something.", She has not been as terrified like that in a long time that she felt foreign in her own skin, it even gave her a bit of a hard time identifying her own self.

Vernon, finally, after a lot of anxious- nail biting- wait for any slight move from him, had come to meet her eyes. Liv gazed at him expectant, with about as much as fear that has yet to leave her still.

Looking away, Vernon shut his eyes close for a brief moment, heaving a quiet sigh, before opening his eyes again, his sight landing on Liv.

"I'm not. . mad.", He clearly was, slightly or perhaps he was just too good at preventing it, he couldn't show a single temper. "It's just that. . why? . I mean, if we hadn't met earlier or possibly not ever again, would you even care to let me know?"

His voice was just so calm, even under that circumstance, that even if she apologizes to him a million times she would still feel guilty.

"I. . ", She could disagree to him, but it would undoubtedly be a lie. ". .I don't know. . maybe, because I was just too worried and afraid that I might ruin your relationship with Cath, you told me you were going to get married as much as anything."

Vernon shook his head and was about to say anything, but got behind when Liv spoke again.

"If you were in a situation where the person you love most happens to leave you with something precious than anything else, but you have to take the risk of ruining the things they built over a long time just so you could return that precious thing to them. . what would you do? Would you take the risk?"

"Don't shift the conversation to me.", He replied, his voice slightly raised, and yet deep inside, he almost broke by how she described them in a what if situation.

"I'm not. I'm just trying to make you understand.", Her voice made a subtle crack. She was actually close to tears.

Vernon took steps closer to her. "I already am trying, believe me.", His tone softened as soon as he saw the tears forming in her eyes.

"I understand how infuriated you are of me for keeping the baby a secret to you, but right now, nor any other time, I just don't want you to be angry.", They just recently made up, not even it had been a day, and she didn't want anything or this untold secret of hers to him to devastate them.

He held both sides of her shoulders, faintly smiling as he gazes fixedly down at her. "I love you more than the anger that I'm feeling right now."

Her mouth slightly parted and she seemed to feel like her heart froze; it was the first time, in the whole duration of them being together, that had she heard him tell he loves her.

Liv stayed still for quite a while, and only had she realized that he was still in front of her and even remember to breathe again when she slowly came back to the consciousness of her mind and grasp that Vernon was just staring at her silently.

She pursed her lips, reaching for Vernon's hand to hold it. And without saying anything, she started walking towards the bed, him following her from behind with his hand on hers.

"Mommy. Biscuits.", Leon said as soon as they stopped by the edge of the bed.

"You want to eat biscuits again?", Liv asked soft-spokenly to Leon.

"Yes. Mommy.", Leon answered, spreading his arms up indicating that he wanted to be lifted up.

Vernon, who was beside yet a little behind Liv, couldn't feel anything but the many emotions that just grew inside him watching Liv and their son communicating.

His eyes were forming tears. He was delighted, so much at that, but at the same time, he felt devastated and regretful that he didn't have the chance to see his own son the first day he came to the world and as well lost the chance of seeing him grow into how he was that moment he first saw him.

Liv tend her attention to Vernon. She smiled at him and motioned him to go closer into the bed. "He needs his daddy's lift.", She told him in a low yet warm voice.

Vernon couldn't deny that he was nervous. It was a child that he was going put in his arms, his child. He leaned forward, reaching out his hands and placed them on Leon's underarms as he raised him up and held him securely to his chest.

Leon dazed at him. He didn't seem to be bothered by the fact that he was lifted by Vernon whom he has never met before.

"Leon, do you like daddy already.", Liv said, gazing fondly at Vernon and Leon. It was the greatest sight for her, and she couldn't believe that she even tried to prevent the possibility of it happening.

"Hey, Leon.", Vernon's smile grew even wider after getting to know his child's name and calling him by it.

"Want biscuits, mommy.", Leon looked at his mom while trying to wriggle his way out from Vernon's hold.

Liv chuckled at the way how their son wasn't giving Vernon any attention. She caressed Leon's back as an attempt to make him still while Vernon was carrying him. "Can you ask daddy for biscuits?", She told Leon, smiling as she raised her eyes to look at Vernon.

Leon also lifted his head and had finally gave his attention to Vernon. Leon looked at Vernon in confusion, thinking that he might be the daddy his mom was pertaining to who he'll ask for biscuits.

"Daddy?", Leon asked, not in the way of calling Vernon that, but because he was confused of that word.

"Yes, Leon.", Liv excitedly said. "He's daddy."

Vernon couldn't contain his warm smile. He somehow still couldn't believe that he had a son, and now, Leon was finally addressing him as his dad.

"Daddy. Have biscuits?", Leon asked him, eyes beaming with innocence.

"Do you want biscuits now?", Vernon's tone would go gentler by every word. He didn't encounter many toddlers his whole life for some reason, yet now, there came his own son, and frankly, he was overwhelmed with great and comforting feelings.

Leon nodded his head with a pouty smile, before looking down to his stomach and patted it with his small hands. "Tummy empty.", He said and it left Vernon to laugh unrestrainedly.

"He just ate like about minutes ago before you came.", Liv commented, yet Leon's face looked nothing but pure and guilt-free, even so, he was way too young to be bothered by anything.

At that point, Vernon could just swore that Leon was overloaded with cuteness and he was just so irresistible.

"Of course, we'll get you your biscuits.", Vernon half-whispered, gazing fondly at Leon in the eyes.

Eventually, the three of them got into the kitchen for Leon's demand for biscuits.

Vernon and Liv were standing side by side infront of Leon who was seated on the kitchen counter. And the whole time, Vernon just stared admiringly at Leon while he was nibbling a piece of biscuits on his adorable tiny hand.

"He seems to like it a lot.", Vernon presumed, his eyes still remained on his son.

"He can't go on a day without it. One of the few things on his starter pack.", Liv chuckled, and Vernon gradually diverted his gaze to her as soon as he heard her do so, having the need to see her beaming face.

It was one of the things that for some reason made him complete; seeing her happy, seeing her smile, may it just be a little grin or the biggest smile she could pull off, anything as long as she was contented enough for her to smile.

"I seriously missed you.", Vernon blurted out lacking almost half of his conscious mind when he was dazing at her who was giving Leon an endearing look.

Liv felt like someone had snapped a finger right in front of her face a second before she tends her attention to Vernon.

She just stared at Vernon, bewildered inside, and he, like what he was doing for awhile, kept his eyes on her with a straight face.

There wasn't really something with his words aside from the fact that he had said that for the reason that they have been apart and not in their best terms for more than two years.

They stayed staring at each other for a bit more, before they both broke into quiet laughter's at the same time.

Liv reached for his arm and trailed her hand down to his palm as she clasped her fingers with his. She gave him a warm smile in which he returned with the same amount to. "Me too."

And by the end, they held their gazes back to Leon and looked at him they same way they looked at each other.
