《Not Anyone | Vernon Chwe》Chapter 18

The moment I woke up that day, I found myself lying beside a sleeping Vernon and was barely dressed. The previous night was still a bit of a blur, but at the same time, I was hit with the realization that I was smiling to myself remembering every inch that happened yesterday.
Sure, there was nothing going on between us as far as I could remember, but after last night, I couldn't be more happy that I have finally come to realize how deep I was falling for him.
There was just something about him that I can't seem to ignore, perhaps it was his kindness, or the way I was just seeing him as a person.
"Do you happen to forget anything?", Vernon asked as soon as he seated himself at the driver's seat.
"I think I'm all good.", I glanced down at my bag, quietly hoping that I really did get all the things that I brought.
"Your bag.", For about a second, his hand went on top of my bag, and from it, my eyes trailed all the way from his wrist to his face. He had a slight smile as he grabbed my bag and once again placed it at the backseat right beside his.
He brought his eyes and attention to me again, for some reason, gradually leaning towards me. I instinctively pursed my lips and couldn't help but to gulp with how he was taking my breath away.
With a bit of my conscious thinking, I have come to realize what he was doing for me; his hand went to the right side of the seat that I was on, and through it, his body was crossing some distance which left me to lean even more back to the seat, he grabbed the seat belt from there and buckled it to the left side.
"You forgot?", He questioned in a whisper, his voice deep and manly. A cold sensation travelled all over my body, chills running down my spine.
I could just give him a nod, perhaps that gesture of him left me to the extent of getting wordless. I was sure that it was just some sort of tease or something so merely, but it was somehow a struggle for me to regain my composure. It took him a few more seconds to lean back to his spot, and it was a battle trying not to deny the fact that his former smile became a mischievous one.

It didn't took that long until we finally hit the road and drove ourselves back to the city. In the middle of the drive, I kept yawning and yawning, which he too noticed when he came to ask me about it.
"Are you sleepy?"
I closed my eyes and leaned my head back. "A little.", I answered before came another yawn.
"You can nap for a bit, we're still a bit far from the hotel."
"Will it be alright for you if I do?", I've heard from somewhere from a certain someone that sleeping at the passenger seat while the person beside you is driving should not be done or is an act of rudeness.
"Of course.", I was somehow relieved that he wouldn't mind, but still, even if he agrees to it, the fact that doing it is rude will remain, right? "I feel like I'm at fault for your lack of sleep last night, so yeah, help yourself and take a short rest."
My eyes shot open after I perceived what he said. Did he just mean what we did last night? Did he actually just took responsibility of our sleep deprivation because of it?
It took me a nanosecond of eye contact with him through the rearview mirror to realize that I should be closing my eyes, which I did in an instant with a nervous gulp.
He didn't seem to notice that I had a minor panic, or perhaps he just didn't care when I heard him let out a chuckle.
I don't know if there was really something wrong with what we did the previous night, but I was just too uncomfortable to talk about it, let alone conversing about it with him, the person whom I spent the long night with.
What would I tell him? Give him an awkward laugh and tell him that I enjoyed last night? That I had fun last night? That he just gave me one memorable night?
I silently exhaled a breath, and before I could possibly think more deeply about a thing that is not so common for me, exhaustion knocked me out.
However, even after a nap, the two hour drive which felt like it didn't even reach a minute, didn't satisfy my tiredness at all. I felt like I was beaten up while going out of the car with my bag hanging on one of my numb arm.

I glanced up to to meet Vernon's face as soon as he held my hand and intertwined his fingers with mine. I smiled at him with my heavy eyelids as a thank you for his support on my attempt on remaining standing on my feet until I reach my hotel room, which was followed with another yawn.
"Are you not tired at all?", I asked.
"A bit?", He answered in a questioning tone of voice.
I gave him a pursed smile. We did the same amount of things and exerted the same amount of energy yesterday, it would be no surprise if he was as tired as me, or even way more, I mean, he was the one driving the whole time.
"I hope you'll give yourself a long rest."
"I will.", He replied, and when I once again took a glimpse of his face, the perfectly drawn soft smile on his face was to die for.
If he was my idol and I was watching that smile of his through the screen of my phone, I would've squealed for hours thinking about how perfect his whole being was, and inside, that was the exact feeling I had at that very moment.
At some point, after getting on the lift, we had arrived at the door of my hotel room. With our hands still holding, I walked a couple of steps forward to get infront of him, my back facing the door.
"This is where we part.", He said with one corner of his lips lifted.
"Yes, apparently.", I replied with a slight snicker.
It was the time where he would have to go back to the lift to get up to his own hotel room, three floors from mine, bid our farewells, and I've had already braced myself to let go of his hand, yet he wasn't seem in plan to do any of those things.
"Uhm.. isn't this the part where we.. part..? You know, what you just said..", I gave him an awkward pursed smile.
By the instant look that plastered all over his face, it seemed that he had just realized it. So, he forgot?
"Ah.!", He lets out a soft chuckle as he gradually lets go of my arm. "Sorry. My mind is a bit.. disoriented."
I slightly nodded my head with what he said. "I see..", I took a couple of steps backward until my back hit the door, and held the doorknob right after. "Then, I guess, we really have to part..?", I turned the doorknob. "Bye— oh, it's locked.", But realized that I haven't fished any keys from my bag and used it to unlock the door to my room.
"Uhm.. wait.", He asked, unknowingly in a prolonged way.
"Yes?", I answered promptly, a bit nervous for some reason.
His tongue drew delicately on his lips before he uttered. "Come over tonight?"
With a question mark.
Every word he said rang and circulated inside my mind for possible reasons like: the thing that happened yesterday night could happen again, things which I thought was impossible could happen again, and the other possibilities also lead to that thought.
Yet, it only directed me to answer one word. "Sure.", I said without any doubt, without reconsidering and without thinking twice. One thing I was able to achieve on this trip of mine; got decisive.
Vernon seemed to be so happy about my agreement to his invite, it showed. For some reason, the smile he gives changes over time, and by days, the more it does change, the more I feel special about it.
Will I be really able manage this? I have gotten more attached to this person.
