《Not Anyone | Vernon Chwe》Chapter 9

He knew me from the very start when we started to talk, but just now, we acted like complete strangers who happens to want the same product and almost bickered. Well, he didn't look at me as if I was some person he just met, but it still wasn't rational to me on why he was smiling all throughout.
"At the park...yes..", he said and I don't know why but I could sense a little sarcasm in his tone. He chuckled, looking as if it he just heard something funny. When there was particularly nothing. I wasn't laughing, enough reason for me to believe that there wasn't really something funny going around here.
"Is it really the only one wine you came here for? No other brands?", I asked. Well, if he really came here, like literally rode a plane just to get here and buy that wine, it's okay for me to give it up. Like I said, it was the very first time I saw it.
"Apparently, yes. It's pretty popular between my parents, and I have come to like it too, and I could only buy it here in Spain.", Yeah, I'm giving that wine up. "But... If you really want it too, it's not hard asking the sales person here if they still have some on stock."
Right. Why didn't I even think of it? That was some rational statements there, I say.
"Yeah, sure.", I said, a bit awkwardly. I was quite embarrassed by how I didn't even think of that way he just told me.
"I'll ask for it. Just wait here.", He said before going near to the sales lady that was a few steps away from us. I just looked at them while they talked, but after some seconds, when he looked back to face me, he had this evident disappointed look on his face.
He walked back to where I was, looking at the bottle from time to time. "The lady said this was the only one left.", He said the moment he was close.
"Oh.. really?", I just said and he nodded. I really don't mind choosing another brand. And so, "It's o-", but before I could tell him that he can have it, he spoke again and cuts me off, again.

"We can share it.", He said, his tone a bit excited.
"How?"
"You can come to my hotel room again."
My eyebrows furrowed by the last word. "What do you mean again?"
"Come on, let's just pay for it.", Without even answering my question, he unexpectedly grabbed my wrist and pulled me all the way to the counter. He's really full of surprises, not only does he surprise me by his presence alone, he's now holding my wrist. Totally normal, but I just can't keep these thoughts out of my mind.
"Oh! Before we forget, did you came here for anything else?", He asked when we were already at the counter. There were only a few people inside so we didn't have to get into some lines.
"Nothing really."
"Okay.", He said and placed the bottle of wine at the counter.
"I'll pay for it.", I suggested. I couldn't even invest for a tour guide, but I wanted to pay for the wine that he said we'll share.
"No. It's my treat.", He answered.
"I insist. You can buy snacks with your money if you want.", What's this? Are we really both going to drink that wine together? Why am I suddenly planning things?
"Alright. If that's what you want.", He said and that slightly took me aback. He really did agree.
There's this part of me that wanted him to insist more and end up paying for it because I'm not good at convincing people, but he just agreed.
After the lady cashier scanned the wine's barcode, she said something, but as we were in Spain, of course she was talking in Spanish, and so, I couldn't understand it. I wanted to ask her to repeat what she said if I could maybe understand it, but before I could even, he spoke.
"Su nombre es Liv." (Her name is Liv.)
Is my hearing that bad or did I just hear my name?
"¿el apellido?", The lady asked again, and when I faced him for help because I literally can't understand a word she's saying, he was already looking at me. (The last name?)
"What's your last name?", He asked.

"My last name?", I asked back, and he nodded. "Uh-its Ghan.", I answered and he looked at the cashier again.
"Es Ghan.", He said to the cashier again. (It's Ghan)
He looked at me with a smile, but I was still confused. "What did you two talk about? Why did you ask my name?", I asked.
"The receipt requires the payer's name, she just asked.", Right, I'm the payer.
I just nodded my head. "Oh..."
"Son 26,34 euros.", I heard the cashier say a number and I reckoned that it was the total, and so, I looked at the cash register. It was a bit of a shocker but no can do, I dug my own grave. (It's €26.34.)
I was about to grab my wallet from my sling bag, but before I could even open it, he suddenly went closer to the counter and gave his own money.
My fingers just stopped on it's own from opening my sling bag. I looked at him, but he was just looking at the cashier who was packing the bottle of wine.
When all the packing was done, he grabbed the carton bag and looked back at me. "Let's go?", He asked and nod his head to the door.
I nodded and when he started walking I just followed him from behind. I just looked at his back while we were walking, but he suddenly slowed down his phase and in no time, we were already walking side by side.
"Why did you pay for it?", I asked. "I thought I was the one paying.", He just thrusted out his lower lip with a slight shrugging of his shoulder. "Come on, we can't just fool around with money.", I went on to say, and gradually his pout went away. It was cute by the way.
"I'm the one who really wanted it, so it's only right that I'll pay for it."
"I'll pay you half if you won't mind.", I suggested then again. But now, it felt like it was the right thing to do. He said we'll share it, share the calorie share the pay.
"I do mind. It's really okay. You can treat me someday somewhere if you really feel the need to pay for this.", He brought the carton bag up with a grin.
So we'll meet again? He just literally said I can treat him someday, so it means we'll have to see each other again, not meeting coincidentally anymore. I'm not complaining though.
"Alright.", I said and his smile became wider. And eventually I just chuckled by how cheerful he was. "But why did you agree for me to pay earlier? And payed for it in the end?"
"Just because...", He cleared his throat. I had way too many confusion today that I atleast wanted to ask him what the real reason is, but I feel like he won't really answer it. So I just didn't.
But out of a sudden, what he said earlier came to my mind again. "Earlier...", He faced me. "You told me that I'll go to your hotel room ...but I don't recall coming there the past days."
"Ah that...", He said but even after a few seconds, he still didn't continue.
"Why? Did you just say it wrong?", I asked again.
"Uhm...", I was still expectant despite having a small chance on having him answer my question. "I'll tell you when you come there.", I'm really, really going to go there? "You can come later tonight."
"What are we going to do there?"
"Drink wine?"
"Then?", I asked then again.
"We can watch some movies."
"What movie?"
"Uhm...", He looked around, thinking intensely, while I just stared at him. I don't know why but I feel like loosing my mind. They way he's telling me to come over his hotel room, a hotel room for pete's sake like I've been there and like we've been friends for a long time when we barely know each other.
I was about to ask him if he was sure of his every decision, but I couldn't, I failed to when he finally got the answer he has been thinking about. "Finding Nemo?", He said and that talk at the park came straight into my mind.
He remembers even our conversation.
