《The Healer | ✔》8. Meant To Be.

"Mommy, Chachu!", Reyansh yelled tugging at the end of my kurti. I looked down at him and then followed the direction he was pointing at. I saw Aarav waving at us. Reyansh jumped up in excitement and I had to hold him down from leaving my side and running to his chachu. However, Murphy was already running towards Aarav.

Latching my hands under his arms I picked my enthusiastic boy up and placed him on my hip before grabbing the handle of my suitcase and manoeuvring past the sea of busy crowd.

"There's my boy!", Aarav grinned as he immediately grabbed Reyansh from me in his arms. Reyansh giggled throwing his arms around his Chachu's neck before pressing a peck on his cheek. Aarav sighed dreamily at my son's adorable gesture. Murphy barked and ran in circles around his two favorite boys.

"Give it to me.", Aarav took the hold of my suitcase and we walked out of airport.

After loading the luggage in trunk, he buckled Reyansh and Murphy in backseat before opening the offside's door and nodding at me to get in. Thanking him I sat down and he closed the door before jogging to other side of car.

"Welcome to India!", He cheered after putting the seat belt on. Reyansh in the backseat let out an excited squeal.

"Our country! Right Mommy!?", He shrieked and I laughed before nodding.

"I'm so fuc-freaking excited!", Aarav said covering up his stupid slip up when I slapped him on his arm.

"I'm too, Chachu! ", Reyansh nodded as he continued to rummage through my purse, searching for his popsicle that I had purchased for him at airport while waiting for Aarav.

"I need to talk to you.", I said catching Aarav's attention. He glanced at me, and sensing the sudden tensed atmosphere except the little ball of happiness in the backseat, he nodded immediately.

"Darling, I was thinking of visiting some nice places tomorrow. What do you think?", I asked looking at him through the rear view mirror. He had his gaze sticked out of the window, enjoying his popsicle. But he nodded nonetheless.

Hospital will be one among the nice places he'll be visiting tomorrow. I had discussed everything with Dr. Alfred- the one who broke the news about his cancer to me- in detail. He said he's ready to help in every way he can. When I told him that Reyansh's father is in India and I would have to take him there, Dr. Alfred assured me that he has many connections with the doctors of some highly reputed hospitals in Mumbai. He had already given me the address of hospital. He has even fixed my appointment with Dr. Rajat, the cancer specialist. He had also emailed all the reports of Reyansh to Dr. Rajat. Now I just need to take my son there tomorrow.

I hope the way I've things planned, they work out in the similar way.

He might be in a relationship with that Tiara. But if I have to be the reason of their break up then so be it. I don't care about anyone else except my son. If he has to cheat on her, then so be it. He's not a saint anyways. He must have already had many girls even after being in a relationship. One more doesn't matter much.

I just hope he never remembers me.

I don't want anything to do with that man. After I conceive, I'll fly back to London. I've not resigned permanently. After explaining my situation to my boss, Mrs. Megan, she so generously accepted my temporary resignation and said that she'll wait for her best Advertising Head.

I just hope nothing else stands as a obstacle in my way now. I want everything to go smoothly and just like that, I'll disappear from his life once again.

The moment I saw my family waiting for us in front of the gates of apartment building, every emotion threatened to tumble down. When I saw my father's loving, expecting eyes, filled with longing and yearn, my chest felt heavy and tears blurred my vision. I felt like his little girl once again .

The car stopped but I was frozen on my seat. It's been five years. I don't know what I'm supposed to do. Should I just rush out and flung myself in his arms. Or step out like a woman, showing no ounce of emotion on my face. When he sniffled and outstretched his arms, nodding me to come, I burst out in tears, shaking miserably.

Reyansh must have unbuckled himself because suddenly he was crawling over my lap wrapping his arms around my neck and caressing my back. I sobbed more.

"Mommy, don't cry. Go to your daddy.", Reyansh mumbled in my ears.

The door to my side opened and Reyansh was picked up from my lap.

"Come here, baccha. ", I heard him call out and pulling off the seatbelt, I jumped out of car before diving straight in his arms. His arms instantly enclosed around me and he left multiple kisses on my head.

"I missed you so much, Rivaah. I missed you so much.", His shoulders shook as he whispered in his quivering voice. We cried in each other's arms until I felt a tug on my kurti. His hold around me loosened and we looked down at the intruder who separated his thumb and forefinger apart, pushing his lips into a smile. Meaning, he wants us to smile. Dad and I chuckled at his adorableness and he giggled shyly before running towards Aarav and hiding behind his legs.

I hugged my mother. And despite of me wanting to not cry in her embrace, I did when she started sobbing heavily. Later Pooja pulled me in for a hug and whined how crazily she had missed me.

"I want to take him.", She mumbled with a pout on her face as she nodded at Reyansh who was busy playing with Murphy's tail.

"Go ahead.", I whispered pushing her on her shoulder.

"I'm not good with kids. I scare them away.", She deadpanned before looking longingly at Reyansh.

Shaking my head at her silliness, I turned to face my little boy and crouched down to his level. "Rey, baby.", I called out and he immediately grabbed Murphy's leash before walking to me.

"Yes, Mommy?"

"This is Pooja. My sister. Your Maasi ", I said and he nodded before looking upwards and stepping back with fear when Pooja smiled at him. She thought she looked trusting but she looked creepy. She huffed and crossed her hands across her chest before a pout formed on her face. I knew Reyansh felt bad so he raised his hand and patted her stomach. She looked down at him. He handed Murphy's leash to me and then raised his both arms up in air.

"Oh my God! He's so cute!", She squealed as she picked him up and kissed his chubby cheeks. My boy blushed heavily. Everyone laughed when she actually swayed around with him still in her arms as if dancing.

We all headed inside.

Nostalgia. That's what I felt when I entered inside my home. It was still the same. Nothing has changed. I left Murphy's leash and walked up to where my room was five years ago. When I stepped in, a huge smile graced my face. Everything is still the same. All my things are placed exactly where I love them to be. And my small bedroom looked spotless clean.

"I clean it everyday.", I heard Mom say from doorstep. Turning around, I rushed to hug her.

"Thank you!", I whispered.

It was half hour later and we were settled in living room. Dad was frequently looking at Aarav in skeptical way. I realized he's not a big fan of any Raichand. Neither was, nor is. And never will be.

"So, Di? The reason of you coming so suddenly?", He asked as he kept the empty tea cup back on the tray.

I took in a deep breath. "Don't react please. Reyansh is suffering from cancer.", I said and almost everyone froze, except Reyansh who was playing with Murphy while still seated on Pooja's lap. I noticed her arms tightening around him protectively and he skeptically looked up at her before pouting at Murphy as he couldn't reach to pat the dog's head anymore. I smiled. He's my everything.

I heard Aarav taking in a sharp before getting up. "I-I need water.", He whispered and rushed inside kitchen.

Pooja looked as if she was holding back her tears. She kissed Reyansh's head and played with his hair.

Ma and Dad had a face of disbelief.

"Is that the reason you came here? Does he not need any treatment?", I turned towards the source of voice and found Aarav standing at kitchen's entrance.

"Bone marrow transplant. I decided to go with this. And it either needs his father as a donor or the closest sibling. I don't want to take any help from that man. I-I came here so I can conceive again, without telling him my real intentions.", Everyone gasped.

"Are you out of your mind!?", Dad whispered in disbelief.

"No, Dad. I'm just thinking about my child. And doctor has strongly recommended me to go with this treatment. No way in hell will I jeopardize with his health. If I need to sleep with that man to save my son, I will.", I replied bluntly. My parents shifted awkwardly on their seat.

"But what about the-"

"Oh God, Mom! Stop thinking about what people might say!", Pooja hissed in distaste.

"I was not going say that! Stop putting words in my mouth! I was concerned about that another child! Will it not be dangerous to him or her?", She asked the last question staring at me.

"No. My other baby will be fine."

"But are you ready to take in another responsibility?", Dad asked.

If I had to be honest, I would have said no. But I can't stress them more on this topic. "Yes. I am."

"If you're not going to tell anything to Bhai, how are you planning to re-enter his life?", Aarav asked.

"I heard Khanna Enterprises are in dire need of Advertising Head?", I asked and he frowned.

"Not dire need. But they definitely are looking for one. Why?"

"Fix my meeting with Uncle Raghav.", I said before I got up. "End the depressing atmosphere now. Cook something delicious, Mom! I missed your food.", I smiled and she nodded immediately before getting on her feet and rushing inside kitchen past Aarav.

"Reyansh, let's get you fresh! C'mon!", I ushered him and he jumped down from Pooja's lap before coming towards me.

We had dinner and then Aarav left.

Next day I took Reyansh out in the pretense of showing him the city, and after an hour or so, I took him to hospital. Our entire day was then spent there itself.

At next afternoon, I met Uncle Raghav along with Aarav and explained him my situation and need. He was more than ready to help me.

"Mommy, you look so beautiful!", Reyansh jumped up and down on bed as soon as I walked out of bathroom wearing the dress Aarav had brought for me.

I smiled shyly at his compliment. He looked at me as if I had stars surrounding me.

Pooja got me ready with the needed make up. "You're looking so gorgeous!", She whispered as she stepped back.

I just hope I'll be able to grab his attention towards me.

I was nervous. Not because I have to face all the people I had once left and never looked back. But because I fear he remembers anything after seeing me. I don't want that to happen.

"Mr. Khanna is here to pick you up, Rivaah.", Mom came inside rushing but halted when she saw me. "You look so beautiful. So pure.", She whispered with a smile.

I bidded everyone goodbye and kissed my baby's cheek before leaving.

"You're looking gorgeous, child.", Uncle Raghav said as he opened door for me. I thanked him before sliding inside.

"Welcome back home, Rivaah. You're looking beautiful.", Aunt Naina, his wife, said as she turned on her seat to look at me.

"Thank you. You're looking stunning by the way.", I said and she smiled.

We reached Raichand Mansion within an hour.

Now I realized I'm growing nervous. Not only because I'm afraid of him remembering something, but because I have to face him again. God! I just hope I don't mess this up.

We three stepped out and I immediately recognized some of the faces. The guards at the gates froze and their eyes widened. Ignoring all the curious and piercing gazes, we walked up the stairs.

The moment I stepped inside, I heard some low gasps coming from people around me.

"Isn't she his ex-wife?", I heard a small whisper before the lady was sternly told to shut up by some man.

His figure stood out among the different bodies even if he was not facing me. I clenched my hands in tight fist when Uncle Raghav placed his hand on my back and gestured me to walk ahead.

His cologne embraced me almost immediately. The same fragrance that I had once swooned over. The same fragrance which I had once smelled in the most intimate way. Uncle Raghav tapped on his shoulder and he immediately turned around.

Our eyes met and I felt everything freezing around me. I had a small smile on my face but that was it. My brain was shut down and I was internally shaking when the same onyx eyes I see everyday in my son's loving gaze, were right now staring at me with different kind of intensity.

"Kabir?", He flinched before he averted his eyes away from me.

Did he remembered something?

"Hello, Uncle Raghav.", His voice was same. Deep and calm.

"Meet our new Advertising Head, Rivaah Verma.", Uncle Raghav introduced us and his eyes immediately met mine. I smiled.

"Hello, Mr. Raichand.", I forced myself to speak. Forwarding my hand, I waited for him to take it for a shake.

He looked down at it before looking back at me. Slowly removing his hand from the trousers pocket, he took my hand in his large one. A short jolt of current shot through my body and I gulped.

I know he felt it too because of the way his hold around my hand tightened. His gaze was burning, and it raked up and down my body. His lips tugged up in a flirtatious smirk that sent chill down my spine. He raised my hand up to his lips, all the while keeping his eyes fixed on me.

After placing a small kiss on the back of my palm, he smiled. The same smile that once used to make me lose my breath.

"Hello, Miss. Verma. It is a pleasure to meet you.", He said huskily.

He still hasn't left my hand.
