No sooner than Nicolas and I get in the store he grabs a shopping cart. We go through the aisles and start with the essentials which Nicolas is just as excited for with picking out.

I already know from what the girls want to get for Eve is clothing so I make sure to get everything else. They still don't know her name just yet as we have just been keeping it between the three of us. Although, they have been trying to get it out of Nicolas and he won't even give them a hint. It makes me laugh everytime they ask and he will just act like he doesn't know it.

"Would you like to pick out some clothes?" I ask Nicolas.

He nods with a smile on his face as we move that way. Even if she may have an overly large amount of clothes, I want Nicolas to pick things for her himself.

Once he grabs several different bundles with designs on them, I check the sizes.

"Little man, you got at least one of every size but all different patterns. Did you mean to do this?" I smile looking at them.

"Yes I did. That way she has clothes I picked out the entire for year of her life." Nicolas beams with pride.

I hug him tight and we walk to the other part of the store.

"Now, I want you to pick something out for yourself." I smile at him.

"But we came for Eve." He whispers her name, making me giggles some.

"Even big brothers need things for themselves. I know you don't need clothes or anything for school, so you get to pick out a toy or item you want." I rub his back with him standing next to me like velcro.

I walk with Nicolas as he steps in front of the cart and looks at the shelves. It doesn't take long for him to find the building toy section and the puzzles at the end that are built into actual 3D models. I smile as he looks between two different ones.

"Get both, sweetheart." I smile at him.

We walk to check out and finish up. Arriving back at the house we get out and grab a few bags each and I unlock the door. Placing the bags on the kitchen table, I go back and get more from the car with Nicolas in toe.

With everything brought in with the trip to the car after unlocking, Nicolas picks some of the bags up.

"I am going to put this in Eve's room." He takes off before I can say anything.

I wash my hands and pull out chicken and noodles for dinner tonight. Nicolas walks in smiling.

"Thank you for placing that in her room. Did you get your bag though?"

"Yes I did and already out on my shelf in the living room." Nicolas nods. "Can I help? Dad started teaching me before I got sick."

"I would love to have you help. Just wash your hands first." I smile and look at him.

While he washes up, I pull out the cutting board and a knife. Nicolas watches me cut the chicken and I ask him what all he learned and Jack had only shown him basics so far.

I move and lay the knife down. He is tall enough that he don't need a stool so he can learn cutting without the risk of the stool slipping out from under him.

Nicolas watches and picks up the knife. For the first few cuts I guide his hands before letting him do it on his own. As he grabs another chicken breast I pull a bowl down from the other side of me.

It takes no time for me mix up the little sauce and grab the shredder for the few vegetables that need to be cut down.

"That was fun but the chicken felt funny holding." Nicolas laughs washes his hands from the chicken slime.

"You done so well those cuts look just like a pro for your first time." I smile at him.

I walk him through the rest of the things that he can safely help with and he watches as everything cooks on the stove top. I let him turn the steamer off and remove the broccoli to be added into my large pan.

"It smells so good in here." Jack sniffs walking into the kitchen.

"Dad, I learned to cut the chicken today and Mama has been teaching me so much." Nicolas jumps over to Jack.

"That is awesome buddy. What did you guys make?"

"Chicken lo mein with a extra vegetable of broccoli with the carrots and snow peas." Nicolas beams.

"It just got done." I smile and give Jack a kiss but my second timer goes off.

"It's done Mama!" Nicolas announces with the timer, making me laugh at his enthusiasm.

Jack walks out to get into comfortable clothes. As Nicolas and I pull out dessert from the oven that we done quickly and for the fun of it.

"Is that a pineapple upside down cake?" Jack looks at it hard right I pull out the platter to get it flipped.

I put on the oven mits on and flip it without saying a word and see his eyes light up as if he is a small kid himself.

"My mouth is watering!" He moans looking at it.

I move over to Jack as Nicolas grabs plates to set the table. He is standing by the stove so I pick up the large pan of dinner and whisper in Jack's ear.

"Sounds like you would rather be in bed with that cake."

"Not a chance." Jack chuckles lowly. "I will be enjoying both desserts tonight. I'll have a piece of that pineapple and then I'll have my whisker cakes."

My core heats instantly. I cough some and walk to the table putting the food down. I help Nicolas get a plate of the food and then get mine, as Jack walks in with the cake we made to put on the table.

With us all giving our food, Jack asks what we got for Eve. Between Nicolas and I, we go over everything that was bought. Nicolas is excited to show the clothes he picked out to Jack once dinner is done.

I never thought a year ago I would be here and have a small family, but I love every minute of this.
