Jentzen

The first day of school. I'm not used to being the new kid. I've never been the new kid, that's Piper's thing. Our mom has moved 3 times, Piper moved with her every time. "Jentzen! You're gonna be late for your first day of school" my mom yells and I roll out of my bed. When I'm done getting dressed and doing my normal routine, I walked downstairs. Sophie was sitting downstairs and her mom was cooking breakfast. This must be some sort of tradition. My mom walks out of her room, and she almost falls. I run over to her and help her from falling. She's been loosing weight. It makes me sad to see this, all I know is that my mom is really sick. She has cancer. That's why her and Piper have moved so much. That's why my parnets got a divorce. That's why she is transferred from hospital to hospital. "I'm okay Jentzen" my mom says and she let's go of my hand. "Breakfast is ready" Sophie's mom says and I walk over. Sophie and Piper get up from their chairs and grab plates. Sophie hands me a plate that has pancakes on it. She smiles her beautiful smile, it's a contagious one and I can't help but smile too. We all sit at the table and eat our breakfast. "Are you excited for your first day of Lakewood?" Sophie's mom asks "I guess, I'm not really used to alot of change" I said. I didn't finish my sentence. I didn't say everything I wanted to say. 'I'm not really used to alot of change, not since my mom got cancer and my parents got divorced' is what I wanted to say. Sophie gives me a sympathetic look. I hate those looks. They say so much in just a little look. It says 'I feel sorry for what you're going through'. It says 'are you okay?'. It says 'how are you feeling?'. That look can say so much more than just, I feel sympathy for you. It's as if Sophie can read my mind because she erases her sympathetic look and replaces it with a happy look. It makes me happy. That happy look makes me happy. Then she laughs, that's when I realize that I was staring at her. Then Piper looks between us and looks at Sophie who is blushing. She gives Sophie a weird look and then mouths the words 'don't even think about it' and Sophie whispers back we're just friends. Because we really are just friends. Soon we all take off and head to school. I was thinking of how awkward that breakfast was. How weird it was that Piper thought Sophie and I liked eachother. Then my thoughts were interrupted by someone yelling "Jentzen!".
