at the tall glass building. She held a bag under her arm, full of various items like pens, pencils, her phone, the psychic paper. She looked back at the doors and strode towards Adipose Industries. She wore business wear; a navy skirt, white button up and a blue coat. Before she entered the building she leaned and looked around, noting the Doctor had already made his way inside separate from her.
They had received odd signals from the building a couple of days ago. Being the curious ones they were, naturally they had to come. The Doctor would make his way in from the back entrances and Valarie would go in the front and get a look of the building and it's lay out above while he dissected below.
She entered through the doors, showing herself in and around, blending in with the crowd in the building. An array of arrows and signs showed her to a presentation room on the very thing that brought them there - the adipose diet pill. She walked to the guard at the door, flashing the psychic paper at him.
"Valarie Scott, health and safety." She hoped it worked. When the man nodded and allowed her entrance she smiled. The Doctor had to show her how exact she had to be to used the paper. She thought back to just a few hours ago when he had tried to show her. At first she could only get the words "Health and Safety" to appear.
"Good! If you are trying to get thrown out faster then anyone." She remembered him teasing her. He sat back in the seat before her in the console, arms crossed and a leg kicked up and folded in his lap.
"Oh, what does it say now?" She asked him with a eyebrow raised in annoyance. He leaned forward, scrunching his face as he read it and then leaned back.
"Oh, Val that is just profane." He gasped in shock at what she had imagined to appear on it while trying to conceal a laugh.
It took a few times to get it right. She entered the room, finding a seat and sitting down. She readied her paper and pens as a woman took a seat next to her. She watched a woman on the stage prepare herself to give them a look into what the adipose pill is exactly.
The presentation in itself was odd. And upon being asked for the science Ms.Foster, the presenter, allowed a video to explain the pill be played. Valarie leaned towards the woman next to her. Maybe she was too dumb to understand, she thought to herself. But it sounded like science she learned back in primary school and much too simple for this miracle diet pill.
"Seems kinda fishy, huh?" She asked, wanting to see what the other people in the room thought. The woman looked at her and back forward. She hesitantly nodded her head, red hair bouncing slightly as she did. When it ended Valarie went back into the office area, having been instructed to meet the Doctor there again. She found him seated in a cubicle with a woman, asking her questions on the nature of the pill. She pulled a empty chair up and sat, curving her lipstick painted lips into a smile.
"Valarie Scott, health and safety." When the woman gave a strange look to her the Doctor interjected.
"We are from the same department. Partners." He grinned. In a way he wasn't wrong, they were partners after all. The woman nodded, and typed something into the computer. A piece of paper printed off next to her, and she handed it to him.

"Here, this is a list of customers." She told him. The two rose to leave, with the woman offering the Doctor another piece of paper.
"Oh, and this."
"What is it?" He asked.
"My phone number." She flirted. Valarie snagged it from her hands before he could think about it and smiled.
"Thank you, but that violates company policy. Article, uh, twelve." She hooked a arm around his and left the building. He looked the paper up and down. "Well?" She asked him. He pulled something from his coat and handed it to her. A pendant of a gold plated adipose pill. He dropped it into her cupped hand. She grabbed the chain, arm still linked with his and dangled it in front of her face.
"A necklace?"
"Oh, now you've been with me long enough to know better than that." He laughed.
"You're right. An alien necklace." She nodded and began laughing as well. He walked her back to the TARDIS, the cold night air nipping at her legs through her sheer pantyhose under the skirt.
"You stay here, keep the TARDIS locked down and see what you can figure out about that. I'm going to be paying a visit to..." He held the paper up. "Roger Davis." He named a customer he wanted to question about the pill. He unlocked the TARDIS door and let her in. "I shouldn't be gone too long."
Valarie turned to the empty console room, pulling her blazer off and laying it over the railing as he shut the door behind her and effectively used his TARDIS key to lock it from the outside. She pulled her heels off, and walked on the cool metal grates, the only thing between them was the pantyhose that covered her feet. She set the necklace on the console in a small place that resembled a petri dish and turned the console on in a way he had taught her to run a brief scan. Of course she could not decipher whatever results it gave, but he would upon return. She hung back, leaning against the railing and sighing. She allowed her head to hang back as she gazed upon the ceiling of the console room and its odd lights and wires.
She leaned over the the necklace, watching it scan as she noted the engravings on one side. She picked it up, toying with it. Suddenly in her coat pocket across the room began to vibrate. She set it down before she could toy any further and grabbed her phone, placing it between her ear and shoulder as she watched the TARDIS's readings flash on the console. Something, anything had to pop up in English.
"Hello?" She said into it.
"Oh, so she does know how to pick up!" An annoyed voice announced. Valarie scrunched her face up in confusion at the rudeness of who ever had called her. She shifted her phone back into her right hand as she folded the other one across her chest.
"This is the first time you've called me since I left, Jack." She spat out. He huffed. Valarie found his nudging and urging to move on from the Doctor when he had left her irritating. She wasn't sure if she had found it irritating because he was right in a way, or because she didn't want to walk away from someone she loved. Valarie cared about Jack deeply as he did her and they were close, but his tendency to talk to her like a parent sometimes was a massive pet peeve. She knew he did it because he wanted better, but it didn't stop her from wanting to pull her hair out over it.

"No, it's not." He replied. "I've been trying to get a hold of you for over a week. I figured he must have came back but damn Val, you can't just up and vanish on me like that." He sighed. She rolled her eyes and shook her head, standing up straight from the railing.
"I'm not a child." She retorted. His nagging, almost parent like attitude had already rubbed her the wrong way.
"Well sweetheart, seeing as I'm around, oh, one hundred and seventy-seven you are a child to me. I was already working with Torchwood when you were barely toddling. Where are you, anyway? If this is the first I'm reaching you you must be somewhere on Earth sometime close to your present."
"Yes, I am. Shouldn't be here long. We found some odd signals going on and came to check it out." The TARDIS door made a sound and began to open. The Doctor walked in, looking tired as he slipped the trench coat off. "Look, he is back now so I probably need to go. I'll shoot you a text or something before I leave again." Despite his protests not to hang up she did, tossing her phone onto the leather seat. She ran a hand through her hair and huffed.
"Who was that?" He asked her, putting his glasses on as he began to observe the pendant and what the TARDIS had found on it.
"Jack. Just checking in." The Doctor turned to eye her. "Oh, when you left we kept in contact. Nothing like that." She leaned forward, watching him toy away at the pendant. "What is it anyway? Just some necklace or an alien necklace?"
"Oh, fascinating. Seems to be sort of bioflip digital switch. Programs someone body the right way and this can do whatever you want to them."
"What, like what that bastard Piero did to me back in Venice?"
"In the same family, more or less. Tomorrow we need to get back in that building. After hours, so we can poke around more."
__
Valarie was slightly mad. Okay, maybe some more. They had arrived around noon of that day, and the Doctor had snuck them in the back entrance and lead her to a storage closet. Then, he announced they would wait there until Adipose Industries closed for the day. Around eight pm.
"Why couldn't we have snuck in closer to closing?" She asked. She sat on the concrete floor with her legs crossed in the long black dress pants. She wore a white button down tucked into it, believing they would simply come in through the front and dressed to blend in. Thankfully this go around she wore black flats. The Doctor looked down at her as he still stood, leaning against the locked door.
"I wanted to make sure we came during the busiest part of the day. So no one would think twice about seeing us if they did." He reasoned. The two had been there close to six hours, and had done anything and everything to pass time. Chatted, told stories, played quiet games and more. Martha's missing presence was felt the most then and there.
"And if they somehow got in here? What was your excuse as to why we are all cooped up together in a storage closet?" She then dropped her arms and rocked back slightly with a teasing smile. "Actually, we could have just said-"
"Stop it. You've been speaking to Jack too much." He looked to the clock on the wall deciding it was time and unlocked the door. Valarie stood and left the closet with him.
"So, what's the plan?" She asked.
"That woman, Foster. She has to be the root of this, so we are gonna swing by her office and see what we can see." He said as they traveled through the building towards the upper floors. Around the floor her office should have been on Valarie saw a twitch of movement vanish into the hall. She froze.
"Doctor?" She asked as entered he stairs and started to travel up.
"Yeah?"
"I'm going to check something out really quick." She mumbled, drifting away from him.He turned to stop her but she had already traveled into the hall. Valarie ventured down a hall silently, only to see a door swinging. Indicating someone had just entered the room. Valarie traveled to the room slowly, listening through the door and then edging it open. To her shock, a woman stood in the room. She turned hearing the door open to face Valarie. It was the same woman from the presentation she had sat next too. They stared at one another in silence.
"Who the hell-" She said above a whisper. Valarie shushed her and entered the room quickly with a finger over her lips. The woman pursed her lips, eyes wide as she lowered her tone. "Who the hell are you?" She whispered. She appeared slightly older then Valarie and also wore business attire.
"I'm Valarie." Her eyes settled on another door across the room that had a window. It showed into an office, Foster's office. She looked back to the woman. "I think I sat next to you at Foster's presentation. What are you doing here?" She asked her. She raised a eyebrow, now wondering if she had stumbled into the trap. No, it couldn't be. The woman seemed to confused to be part of some trap.
"I could ask you the same." Valarie moved away and drifted to the round window. She placed her hands on the metal rim and tried to peer in hesitantly.
"I asked you first." The woman huffed and joined her in gazing through the porthole.
"Investigating Adipose." Valarie nodded, telling her she was too. They watched Foster inside, with two armed men on either side of her. She interrogated a woman sat in the chair across from her. "How many people are investigating this place?" She thought aloud.
"I'm Donna, by the way." Donna introduced herself. Valarie nodded.
"Nice to meet you Donna." She whispered back and smiled at her. Donna and Valarie's heads barely touched, the two nearly cheek to cheek as they looked into the room, neither questioning each other really.. On the opposing side was a large window.
"You can't tie me up! What sort of country do you think this is?" The tied up woman, a journalist, argued.
"A fat one. A beautifully fat one." Foster replied with a smile.
"Well, those pills Foster. What are they?" She asked.
"Well, since you will never publish I might as well give you the scoop. This," she held up the red and white capsule, "is the spark of life." She cooed. "Officially, capsule attracts all the fat cells and flushes them away. The attracting part is true, but the fat galvanizes and forms a body."
"What, what do you mean a body?" The reporter asked. Valarie furrowed her brows as did Donna.
"I'm surprised you never asked about my name, I chose it well. Foster. As in Foster mother, and these," she opened a compartment and pulled a tiny, white creature out. In appearance it was cute until the memory that it was made up of human fat came back. "are my children. The adipose, made out of living fat" She finished with a smile. Donna and Valarie lifted their heads up higher slowly to get a better view until a movement caught Valarie's eyes. Across the room and outside the window in a window-washers lift was the Doctor, observing as they were. They meet eyes and both gave identically confused expressions.
"Doctor?" She mouthed to him.
"Val?" He mouthed back. When Donna noticed him her jaw fell slack with the slightest curve of a smile. "Donna?!" He mouthed even more confused.
"You know her?" She replied.
"You know the Doctor?!" Donna whispered to her.
"You know the Doctor?" Valarie replied.
"Oh my god." Donna seemed to be overjoyed to see him, Valarie looking to the Doctor with confusion as the three seemed to start playing a poor game of charades.
"What the hell are you doing there?" the Doctor mouthed.
"Looking for you!" Donna replied.
"How do you know him?" Valarie asked and looked to him. "You know her?" She jabbed her thumb towards Donna. The Doctor nodded.
"What for?" He asked Donna in silence.
"I read it on the internet. Weird. Crept along. Heard them talking. Meet her. Hid. You." She did an array of odd hand motions, like mimicking the typing on a keyboard, ca creeping gesture with her hands and a gesture to Valarie. Valarie had began tugging on Donna's sleeve, trying to alert her to the fact that Foster had noticed the three. Finally the other two realized.
"We interrupting you?" Foster asked them.
"Run!" The Doctor mouthed. He aimed his sonic at their door, effectively locking it. Valarie took Donna's hand and ran, pulling her from the room and towards the stairs. The sound of gun fire echoed from the room and wood splintering. Half up the stairs they meet the Doctor, who Donna promptly hugged.
"Oh my god!" She cried. The Doctor released her and hugged Valarie as well.
"How do you two know each other?" Valarie asked again.
"Uh, the Christmas star. Around a few months before I meet you, remember that?" The Doctor asked her. Valarie pulled the memory of it from the back of her mind, having forgotten about the incident.
"Oh my god, that was you?!" She asked Donna.
"Yes! Oh I don't believe it! Same hair, suit, everything. Do you just wear the same suit?" Donna asked, now with a disgusted expression as the idea occurred to her.
"Yeah, thanks." The Doctor replied as the armed men entered the stairwell as well. He took both of their hands. "Like old times." He gave a toothy grin as he lead them back up and towards the roof.
"I thought, how do you find the Doctor? And then I thought look for trouble and he will turn up. UFOs, sightings, crop circles, you name it. I even broke into that Brion lab after it was destroyed in that accident." He lead them back to the window-cleaners lift he had been in. Valarie turned to her as they climbed in.
"Brion, yeah? Well you missed him by a hair there. That was us, well more him. That was were I meet him." Valarie explained.
"In you get!" he told her.
"In that thing? But can't she just pull us back up?" Donna asked as the Doctor messed with the controls.
"Not unless she has a sonic of her own." He climbed in behind Donna and began to lower the lift. Only a few seconds had passed before Foster appeared above them. She then held a pen out to the cables. To their horror, she did have a sonic. The lift began to plummet as the cables allowed it. The Doctor managed to aim his back and force the lift to jerk to a stop. He then tried to work it on the window.
"Hold on, we can get in through the window." When the window refused to open, it appeared Foster had more control over the buildings locks then she did. Donna looked around the lift and found a wrench as Valarie tried to pull at the window.
"Smash it then." She began to hammer the wrench against the window. It barely budged. From within the office they hung in front of, the three looked like either lunatics or idiots. Perhaps they were all a combination of the two. Donna looked up upon hearing Foster's sonic hum again.
"She's cutting the cable!" She altered them. By the time Valarie and the Doctor looked up the cable supporting the right side of the lift snapped. It dropped by that side nearly flipping it inverted. The Doctor managed to grab the bar next to him, remaining within the lift. Valarie fell back onto Donna and the two grabbed onto anything, including each other to try to stay on it. They failed, Valarie toppling outside of the lift and snagging the railing of it as she hung several stories above the ground. Donna had grabbed a suspension bar on the cable and held onto it for her life, as her other hand held tightly onto Valarie's ankle.
"Donna! Valarie!" He cried, leaning over the edge. Valarie held on tightly, trying not to kick her legs as she knew Donna was attached. Donna kicked wildly, the wind blowing against the twos bodies making it hard to hold on.
"Hold on!"
"We are! Doctor!" They screamed back in almost perfect unison.
