Valarie questioned, sitting on the beige stained seat, the gentle rock of the TARDIS still a foreign feeling to her. The Doctor did his usual job around, head bobbing up and down in response.
"What's so important about a hospital?" She scoffed, legs crossed as she leaned against the back of the chair. Valarie snorted lightly. She watched him work the levers and buttons, always glancing up at a monitor with sticky notes covered in round symbols Valarie didn't recognize.
"Well, I had originally planned to visit the infamous RMS Titanic, eat a meal, maybe dance some, but-"
"The Titanic? Doesn't that seem a little morbid?" Valarie chuckled, eyebrow raised. The Doctor froze, looking up towards her across the console. He shrugged.
"No, just pop in and out real quick. Besides, the Titanic is a fixed point; time locked, I can't change it. View is lovely, thought that'd be the perfect first place to take you." The Doctor let a low sigh out, before stepping away from the console as the wheeze and groan of the old box echoed through the room. Valarie still found herself purely amazed by the sound.
"So, what's the catch? We on another planet, or are we in the future? Oh, or both? In a future, alien hospital?" Valarie smiled, jumping up from the chair. The Doctor's eyes flew to her.
"What? No, that's too obvious anyway. Personally, if I was going to do something bad, I would choose now and Earth. Most of you don't even know of any other exsistance-apart from you and a select few- much less the shadow proclamation and-"
"Shadow Proclamation?" Valarie asked retrieving her large grey cardigan, shrugging it on over the white shirt that tucked into a navy blue skirt.
"Those like the laws of the galaxy?" Valarie questioned, folding her arms as she stalked to his side, him bent down and fishing for something under the console. He jumped to his feet, peering down at her.
"You always impress me with how quick you catch on." He cooed, a goofy grin playing his lips. She smiled warmly, arms folded.
"I impress you period." Valarie smirked, as a dull thud echoed through the TARDIS. Valarie's eyes wandered upwards, looking around the room.
"We'll see about that one, Val." He teased, turning and walking towards the TARDIS doors.
"What, we just gonna show up and expect them to let us snoop around?" She called after him. The Doctor froze, then turned back to her.
"You're right." He sighed, and folded his arms. He rocked back on his heels, lips pursed. He then released them with a pop, and uncrossed his arms, making a gesture for her to come by his side.
"C'mon now. Follow my lead." He nodded as she came by his side; him linking an arm with hers. The two walked outside the TARDIS, the doors groaning shut as Valarie looked up towards the sky. It was night.
"Now once we are in here, my name is John Smith." The Doctor warned, not wanting there to be any faults in the story when they tried to check in. He walked her to the front, pausing beside the entrance.
"I'm fine, remember that." He smiled at her, causing Valarie's eyebrow to peak and drag a corner of her mouth into a smile. He turned again, hand shoved in his coat pocket and Valarie on his arm. She pushed the first set of glass doors open. Then the second.
The moment they hit the lobby, it all changed. The Doctor crumpled, Valarie suddenly having to pull in him to keep him from collapsing totally. His hands grabbed at his stomach, and his teeth bared; a clenched groan passing them. A nurse who had stood at the front desk immediately rushed over.

"What's going on?!" He asked immediately, the secretary behind the front desk picking up to call for more help.
"He," Valarie began, quickly conjuring a story up in her head.", he woke up like this. Took a nap earlier, and woke up in bad pain." Valarie lied, hands tightly holding onto his arm as the nurse brought his free one around his shoulder. She was somewhat shook at the sudden shift in him.
As the nurse pulled Valarie free of his grip, and began to drag him along, the female nurse rested a hand on her arm.
"We will do everything we can, but we do need some information first off." The nurse smiled softly, escorting her to a seat. She then walked to the front desk and scooped up a clipboard, and came back.
"What is his name?" Valarie paused for a moment, then blurt it out.
"John Smith." The nurse nodded, and wrote the name down.
"Any allergies, medications or medical history?"
Valarie bit her lip, knowing the only anomaly was the dual heartbeat she couldn't quite believe was real. She thought on her toes, and blurted out a "no". The nurse nodded, copying the information down on the chart then filling the rest out. She then set both hands on top of the board.
"Now don't you worry. We are taking excellent care of him; your husband should be okay." Valarie's jaw went slack, and she gripped the sides of the chair and shook her head, shifting her position.
"No, I'm not his wife. " she laughed lightly, and nervously.
"Then you are?"
"Valarie Scott. John Smiths friend." She smiled, leaning back in the chair with a confident smile.
"Alright, Valarie. We will notify you when you can go see him." The nurse stood with that, and walked back to the front desk. Valarie leaned back in the plush waiting chair, wondering what the hell she had just done.
_________
"Honey, I'm home." Valarie announced as she pulled the curtain back, pulling a chuckle from the Doctor who was propped upwards in the hospital bed. She glanced around for a moment, before pulling the curtain too and taking a seat next to him on the hospital bed.
"Now I want to know how you managed to avoid becoming Britain's first dual hearted man." She queried, left eyebrow peaked and her eyes squinted.
"Oh, a magician never tells him secrets." He cooed, restraining a laugh in his throat as he taunted her.
"Doctor!" She gasped, with a repressed smile stretching her lips. No matter how hard she implored him however, he wouldn't budge and give the secret away.
Valarie left the small room, returning shortly with a chair. She tugged it next to his bed, plopping down and kicking her feet onto the bed.
"So, how long we due here?" She questioned. The Doctor thought for a moment, leaning his head back onto the blue pillow rested ok the bed.
"Recon we stay overnight. Check things out, then if nothing happens, we can just pop on out. And the RMS Titanic we go!" He hooted, a bright grin playing on his lips. Valarie rolled her eyes.
"What is it with you and the Titanic?" She scoffed, folding her arms and shaking her head. He gawked.
"It's gorgeous! Sure around midnight it's gets chilly and rather bumpy but the food is to die for! The band is lovely, and the dancing amazing! Oh and the view of the night sky; I may even be able to let you see the Northern Lights!" The Doctor day dreamed now. He had seen the northern lights, millions of times in fact, but he always enjoyed showing it to other.

"You know I saw the first ever Northern Lights? I was around, oh, five hundred and three, I think?" The Doctor began a long ramble; some story about his first viewing of the Northern Lights.
"Funny story, don't you say Val?" The Doctor's warm brown eyes flickered to Valarie; who was slumped in the chair, fast asleep. He smiled softly, eyes fluttering to the clock on the wall. It was rather late. He laid back in the bed, eyes trained in the ceiling as the only sound in the room anymore was the air vent and Valarie's soft snores.
________
Morning came fast, the sun light casting light even through the shadows of the curtain pulled around the bed. The Doctor's eyes still trained on the ceiling, having stayed there all night. He simply gazed, thinking to himself about everything. He was jolted from his mind by the stir of the feet propped up on his bed.
Valarie sat up slowly, rubbing her eyes and yawning. She stretched a arm above her head.
"Rise and shine, sleeping beauty." He taunted, his grin quickly going away when his eyes meet Valarie's; deep purple bags formed under them from obvious trouble sleeping. He felt awful; if he had known he would've traded with her. But Valarie had slept so soundly when he watched her-okay, that sounded weird.
But he didn't sleep; not as much as a human, anyway. He had just taken notice in her stillness, that was all.
"Rough night? I would've switched with you if you had asked-"
"And have the nurse suspect I'm some jerk who forced a man who couldn't stand up straight to sleep in a chair?" Valarie snapped, her tone not its warm self.
Valarie stood, pulling a arm above her head and twisting her back; a loud popping sound came from it. She let a groan out, repeated the action, then plopped back down in the chair.
"So, assuming I woke up, nothing bad happened?" Valarie hoped, really preferring she not have to spend another night in the stiff chair. The Doctor sighed.
"Soon. If nothing has happened by midday, we'll leave." The Doctor huffed, somewhat annoyed and amused by her impatience. Valarie huffed a silent 'fine' and leaned back in the chair. The two sat in silence for only a moment, before the sound of quiet mumbling and the curtain was pulled back. A man stepped in, surrounded by what appeared as Medical students.
"Now then, Mr.Smith, a very good morning to you. How are you today?" The teacher asked, hands shoved in his coat pockets.
"Oh, you know, still a bit, bleh." He shrugged in response, sticking his tongue out and peering to the teacher.
"John Smith, admitted by his friend here yesterday with severe abdominal pain." He turned to the woman beside him, motioning to the Doctor.
"Miss Jones, why don't you see what you can find." He instructed, the woman nodding and moving to the other side of the bed. She lodged a stethoscope of the desk nearby, placing it around her neck.
"Wasn't very clever running around outside, was it?" She imputed, smirking at him.
"Sorry?"he mumbled in response.
"Chancellor street this morning, you came up to me and took your tie off." She informed him, shocked at him questioning what had happened.
"Really?" he asked. But not like someone who is confused, no more of a shock. Like when you tell a child a interesting fact you've already known for ages.
"What'd I do that for?" He asked, but seemed more as if he was asking himself. She pulled the ends up to her ears, as she now seemed confused.
"I don't know, you just did."
"Wasn't him. He's been checked in here since late last night. Hasn't left the bed." Valarie confirmed, glancing between the Doctor and the woman.
"Well that's weird, cause it looked like you. Have you got a brother?" Martha questioned, seemingly sidetracked from the task at hand.
"No, not anymore, just me." He shook his head, frowning. Valarie took note of that phrase, but tucked it into the back of her mind for a later question. Valarie's eyes floated back to the woman.
"As time passed and I grow ever more weary, Miss Jones." The teacher let on, 'Miss Jones' cracking a an awkward smile and apologizing. She placed the ends of the stethoscope into her ears. She placed the round end to his chest, looking rather fine. Valarie watched closely as her expression changed somewhat, eyes flickering to the Doctor who simply smiled.
She moved to the other side quickly, eyes going wide as it became clear to Valarie she had located the second heart. Valarie wanted to hear it for herself also, remembering back on the not so far off event for which she felt it. The Doctor gave her a wink, as she retracted from his chest slowly.
"I weep for future generations. Are you having trouble locating the heart, Miss Jones?"
"Um," she laughed, still semi-shocked. Valarie laughed under her breath, amazed at how well she took it." I dunno; stomach cramps?" She suggested. The teacher rolled his eyes.
"That is a symptom, not a diagnosis." He nodded, striding to the front of the bed.
"And you failed basic techniques by not consulting first with the patients chart." He sighed, lifting it up. He dropped it almost immediately. A small static shock had been exchanged; peeking Valarie and the Doctor's interest.
"That happened to me this morning."
"I had the same thing on the door handle."
"And me on the lift."
"Well, its to be expected." The teacher chuckled, grabbing the chart again.
"There's a thunderstorm moving in, and lightning is a form of static electricity as was first proven by....anyone?" The teacher questioned, the Doctor immediately answered.
"Benjamin Franklin."
"Correct."
"My mate Ben." The Doctor sighed, a ramble beginning. "That was a day and a half; got rope burns off that kite, then I got soaked. And then, I got electrocuted!" He smiled, looking around as Valarie promptly struck his arm when they turned away with a stiff punch. The Doctor winced as his head spun to her, hand grasping the arm.
"Moving on." The teacher mumbled.
"I perhaps think a visit psychiatric." The teacher mumbled to a passing nurse. Valarie and the Doctor smiled, until they were gone.
"Now what was that for?" The Doctor questioned. Valarie scolded him.
"You just don't tell weird time travel stories! They'll lock you up in a place like this." She scolded, waving a finger. The Doctor only cracked a smile.
"Can't say you didn't enjoy hearing it."
"Can't say the people's faces didn't worry me. Now," Valarie stood, folding her arms.
"I'm hungry, so I'm gonna pop by a vending machine. I'll be back in a second." Valarie said, before walking off from his bed.
"Don't you go running." She said, turning to glance at him with a warning smirk. The Doctor raised his brows, giving her a mischievous smile.
Valarie left the ward, walking to towards the glowing machine at the end of the hall. As she neared it, Valarie couldn't help but notice two odd figures. They walked in sync; wearing leather head to toe. Dark biker helmets covered their heads completely. She observed them as they rounded a corner and vanished, and looked at the machine frowning. She made a mental note to mention it to the Doctor; deciding it wasn't urgent enough to stop her from grabbing a chocolate bar and can of pop.
She slid the pound in, selecting 'A3' and watched as the candy bars dropped. She bent down and retrieved the candy, then moved to the next machine, repeating the process and bending down to grab the pop can.
Once she had both in hand, she began her stride back down the hall, only stopping to pause and view the rain that slammed against the window roughly. As her eyes began to watch the rain drops fall, starting from top of the window seal then to the bottom.
It was then she noticed what seemed to be impossible.
Valarie felt faint when it dawned on her the direction the rain fell. Or, raised, she wasn't quite sure how to phrase it.
But the rain was going upwards.
Valarie allowed herself a moment to gaze at the wonder before breaking into a mad dash, running towards the ward the Doctor had been assigned too. She froze in the door way, finding the urgency too much and cried out from it across the ward.
"Doctor-!" Was all she managed out as his head spun to her direction at her urgent cry before the tremors took over. The room began to shake violently, a bright light blinding those who watched too long.
Valarie's body roughly slammed into the door frame, her elbow jutting into the corner as a cry tore her throat. Her hands that tightly grasped the snack and drink releasing them to desperately claw at the air as her body was thrown like a limp rag doll; the soda can exploding and shooting fizzy soda all over the floor and Valarie's bare shins.
"Doctor!" She screamed, trying to get a glance at him. Despite her voice being masked by the sound of glass shattering and screams echoing through the hospital. Yet somehow, she heard a response.
"Val!" She faintly heard, only getting a glance of the Doctor's tall figure pressed against his bed before her body slammed against the hard ground, the air forced from her lungs.
The horrid shaking subdued, and Valarie remained on the floor of the hospital, only rolling into her back as she attempted to catch the air that had been punched from her lungs. She closed her eyes as silence fell over the hospital.
