《Lustrous》Chapter 2: The Flooding of Warm Liquids

I slid into the cab and told the driver my address, quickly before scolding myself in the back seat. There was no way I was even in for a chance with that interview which was a real shame since I was beginning to feel excitement for starting a job that wasn't anywhere near my father's company which involved a lot of boating and importing cars.
Never mind your own selfish desires, you brutally assaulted a man! Sure it was funny as hell for me but isn't your conscience eating at you?
I paused to pounder for a moment. My inner self was right. I had broken Mr Renner's nose and burnt his groin with coffee in the matter of seconds after he accused me of being mentally ill. Where the hell was my conscience?
Oh I found her! She's busy painting her nails.
Maybe there was something seriously wrong with me.
I wouldn't go so far as to say that I had voices in my head egger to cause immediate destruction to my life but I had attentional issues that meant I often spaced out and got caught up in each and every train of thought that passes through the station that is inside my head. Which occurred every, say, ten seconds?
Maybe mother should have gotten me tested after all.
The cab came to a stop at my home address and I quickly slipped out of the small sedan styled taxi and paid the man, leaving him a five dollar tip. I lived on the edge of the city in a rather spacious studio apartment with my flat mate Jessie Maynard who was a practicing artist when she wasn't busy trying to kill the little kids at the Primary school she is employed in. I smiled as I began walking up to the elevator.
As I quickly walked into the elevator my smile only widened at who was also ridding it. Joshua Miles, the hot hunk of a man who lived across from us.
Ah how thy day brightens at the mere sight of his lovely smile and sparkling brown eyes.
I tried to be seductive.
Leaning against the wall of the elevator I smiled at Joshua and rested my arm on the railing while I flicked my head back to let my auburn hair fly back and frame my face with it's crazy curls since I had let it loose from my bun on top of my head.
Hello hot stuff, would you like to push me up against the wall, hold my hands above my head and kiss me with so much passion you might melt the milky flesh off my bones? Huh? Would ya?
"Whoa!" I screamed as my foot slipped on the freshly cleaned floor and my body came crashing down to the ground, falling in a lump heap with my head colliding with the railing.
And as always Sky you have yet to surprise me. A two year old can stand up better then you can.
"Hey, Sky are you okay?" Joshua asked, his voice full of concern as he helped me up by grapping my waist and gently lifting me off the ground letting the front of my body get a full feel of his immaculate chest.
I stand corrected. This was a great idea, it's like drowning at the beach and kissing a life guard but in an elevator!... and without the water... or the kissing... or... never mind.
I let Joshua pull me to my feet and steady me as he cupped my face while his eyes scanned my body, looking for invisible injuries.

Oh yeah, I am fine as long you don't stop doing what your doing – unless of course you're going to do something a little more pleasurable? In that case take the wheel!
"Sky?"
"Huh? Oh, yeah I'm fine." I nodded as he looked deeply into my eyes.
So pretty! If I was a serial killer I would so kill him just so that I could keep his eyes as a trophy – wait what am I saying?
I shuddered at my thoughts. What was in that bowl of cereal this morning? My inner self is crazier then I usually give her credit for.
"Are you cold?" Joshua asked kindly noticing my shudder.
"Oh no – " I went to say but my words died on my lips the minute he began to drape his leather jacket over my shoulders.
Such a gentlemen. I need three of him to go! And don't be stingy on the sauce!
"There you go. Better?"
"Much. Thank you." I nodded and pulled the jacket closer around me letting the strong manly sent of his musky colon fill the air I breath, like a drug you can get high off.
"Never mind. What are neighbours for." He shrugged and went back to watching and waiting for the door to ping open.
Oh well since you asked I can think of a list of things. Most of them boy next door related and none of them suitable for children.
I smiled brightly as I clung to his jacket. This was turning out to be a not so bad day after all. The elevavtor came to a stop and Joshua quickly left me to stare in awe of the man.
Naw, I miss him already.
Sighing, I shook my head of my thoughts and walked out onto the floor and over towards the red apartment door with the number six hanging diagonly in the centre – it often fell off and swung around to make a nine, confusing everyone including our mailman. I turned the handle and threw my shoulder into the door making it swing open with a little too much force that I stumbled a little.
The strong smell of pasta filled the air. I loved the way pasta filled the house with the delicious aroma. Jessie stood over the stove, her blond hair was springing up as the moisture in the air floated up. Jessie was the pretty one of the pair of us, her blond hair with blue eyes and feminie features made her worthy of a second glance where as my pale skin average abury hair, brown eyes and completely out of proportioned body was mostly over looked.
Especially when such looks are coupled with your lack of attention and incoherent muttering.
Thank you very much for the pep topic.
"Hey Sky." Jessie greeted me as she glanced my way whilst steering the pot of pasta. "How'd the interview go?"
I took a deep breath and perched myself on the stool by the small island bench. "Well, okay if you over looked the fact that I said his name wrong, tipped hot coffee all over his groin and let's not forget the fact that on the way out I hit him in the face with my bag and probably broke his nose."
Jessie slowly pivoted on her heel, turning all her attention towards me as her jaw fell open as she gaped at me. "You did what?"
"Do I really have to say it again?" I groaned as I put my head on the counter top, feeling the cold marble tickle my forehead.

"No, no, of course not, it's just that..." She paused looking for the right word or adjective. "Maybe we should find someone to sit your interview for you next time?" She pondered the idea for a moment in silence. "Or maybe you should just consider working from home? Yeah that would work."
"Or I can stay unemployed and continue to brutally abuse the next person I meet to seek employment from."
"I still don't understand why you don't just work for your dad? Its good pay and he wouldn't dare fire you no matter how badly you screw up."
I sighed in annoyence. "Because I want to prove my worth and make a name for myself." I explained. My father was the owner of a chain of export and import companies and I was originally covering the finances for them after I graduated and got my business diploma but when I tried to branch out from under his name, no one believed that I could actually do anything of value, so I decided to prove them all wrong by quoting and trying my hand in another company – but at the moment I wasn't anywhere near that goal.
"Okay, okay, sorry I asked. Hey can you take over for a minute, I need to get changed." She asked me as she turned the sauce on low heat and gave the pasta one last stir.
"Sure what do I have to do?" I was eager to help.
"Just dice up the onions and add them in the sauce."
I smiled at her and nodded my head. I could finish cooking, surely it wasn't that hard.
You can't cook. Don't you remember the last time we tried this? You burned yourself twice and managed to burn everything but the peas.
Shut up. How hard was it to cut up the onion and add it to the mix?
Do you really want to test that?
I shook my head and picked up the bigger then necessary knife and gathered the onion in one neat pile before beginning to chop.
"How are you going?" Jessie called out.
"Yeah fine." I answered back, blinking rapidly because of the sting in my eyes and shifting my head away from my actions and the evil onion juices that turned even the strongest men into the biggest cry-babies on the planet.
You should have worn goggles.
"Are you sure?" Jessie asked me, her voice coming closer as she approached the kitchen.
"Yeah..." I paused for a moment feeling a weird, warm sensation over my hand. What the hell, since when was an onion warm? I turned my head back around to see the onion turning a weird colour.
Since when did onion look like that?
My eyes quickly turned from the onion to my thumb that was currently being coloured in a warm red liquid as the blood gushed out of my thumb.
Well would you look at that. Blood.
"So not okay! Jess help!"
She raced around the corner in only a moment and her eyes quickly landed on me before widening in a panic. "How did you cut your thumb?" She walked over to me and grabbed hold of my finger while I whined.
"It just sort of happened."
She dragged my hand over towards the tap and held it under the cold spray of the tap water. The onion juice seeping into my cut was like putting salt in an opened wound, it burned and sung like nothing I had ever experienced before. I gritted my teeth and hissed, trying to control my breathing.
"Deep breaths Sky." She hushed me as she leaned down, closer to my thumb to get a better look. "Wow that's pretty deep, you're going to need stiches."
Stiches? Needle? Oh hell no!
"I think I'm going to be sick." I froze, my head started to spin and my stomach started to flip.
"That way, away from me." She held me out at arm's length and recoiled. "Come on let's get you to the hospital."
"Okay Ms Martin, let's have a look at that hand." The doctor announced as he opened the curtain and slide inside the small room that I had been shoved into. Coming in to the emergency room, the nurse did a great job of cleaning up the blood, but I still had to wait for a doctor to check out the wound before they stitched it up.
Sure thing doc.
I scrunched up my face and held out my hand towards the doctor before I finally looked up at the man in question.
Well hello doctor, you can check me over anyway you like.
Oh good god not again. I took a deep breath and shyly smiled at the doctor as he gently held my small hand in his and looked over my cut. He was slimly built, tall, with blond hair and small grey eyes. "And how did you this young Lady?"
Oh he called you young lady, his perfect.
"I uh, well I'm not going to lie, I was chopping onions." I came clean with the facts of the so called 'incident' and prepared myself for the dumfounded gaze and the giggling.
He chuckled deeply and shook his head as he poured a cleaning solution over my wound making it sting a little – paling my complexion. "Ah those pesky onions, always causing trouble."
I smiled at his response - mainly because he was humouring me and not teasing my poor topping skills. "Exactly! Nice to know somebody gets it." I smiled sweetly at him.
Is this you're flirting? Onions? Really child?
The doctor chuckled again as he fixed the needle, ready to repair my skin. I flinched back and shut my eyes with a fierce intensity.
If you can't see it, then it's not happening right? Great Logic Sky.
"Not a fan of needles?" His manly voice floated through my ears and comforted my self-inflected darkness.
"Nope."
"Just a pinch, then it will all be over." He assured me as he started the short process. A short time later I felt the comforting hand of my doctor as he rubbed my arm. "All done."
"Oh thank god." I opened my eyes and stared down at my now stitched up hand.
"Now, I would suggest to stay away from any onions for a little while." He smiled.
"Yes, thank you for the advice Doctor?..." I paused realizing I hadn't heard his name.
Be careful Sky, you haven't had much luck with people's names today, wouldn't want to ruin your onion flirting with the hot doctor.
"Oh sorry, I forgot to introduce myself. I'm Xavier Collison." He reached out his right hand and went to shake my hand when he stopped and realized that it was my injured hand was about to shake.
"Well Doctor Collison, thank you for your fine needle work." I fluttered my eyelashes and gave him my best seductive smile.
Maybe you should stop flirting now, you probably look like the joker trying to blink a message in Mors-code.
I froze, letting my not-so-seductive smile fall. My inner voice was probably right – I never thought I'd see the day.
"You are most welcome Ms Martin." He gave me his hand and gently helped me to my feet and over towards the door where I began pulling open the curtain ready to leave. "So," he smiled at me, flashing me one of those gorgeous smiles that melts your bones. "Do you think I could see you some time?"
"S-see m-me s-some time?" I stuttered as turned around and slammed my head right into the door frame that held the curtain. "Ouch."
"You alright there?"
"That hurt." I whined and rubbed my head where I hit it.
"Come back here and we'll check you for a concussion."
