《The Red Sun》Alexander

Alexander continued to be in a coma 2 days after Samantha healed him, "your body was getting fully rid of the toxin." The doctor said when he asked him. He woke up to find Rylee, Hayley, Adam, Jonathan and his father with him in the room, his father stayed for about 2 hours and it was the longest duration he has ever been with Alec or Rylee so Alec was happy. Mr. William Sterling was a 50-year-old widow with grey color completely covering his hair, he was a little bit fat and he was a workaholic, he was always so busy working ever since Rylee and Alec were born while their mother died giving birth to him (as he was younger than Rylee) so the closest thing Alec and Rylee ever had to a mother was their nanny, Mrs. Doris.
Mrs. Doris was a stout woman; however, that never prevented her from being active and flexible, she was older than their father yet she dyed her hair red each time she saw a shade of white appear. She is the one who suggested to their father to bring them a trainer so they would be able to learn how to fight and he actually did, he brought them Master Ramzy who was 12 years older than Alec and Rylee however he was strong for his age, he had brown hair, green eyes and a toned skin as he liked to stay in the sun for most of the day.
As Alec woke up, he had worn his smile and got up to sit on his bed, he felt some pain but he ignored it anyway, he couldn't let them see that he was weak at that moment, specially his father. "What time is it? Where am I?" He asked looking at them all, Rylee and Hayley's eyes were as red as cherry while Jon, Adam and his father had sleeping bags all around their eyes.
"You were shot badly Alexander, and we are in a hospital and right now it is 6 am." His father replied with a hint of a smile on his face,
"Shot? How long was I out?" His heartbeats started increasing as shown on the monitor,
"10 days." Hayley replied with a faint voice,
"10 days? How? Who shot me? Wha..." he started asking lots of questions as his heart rate increased even more so the nurse had to sedate him and he slept again. He woke up and his father was gone,
"Where is dad?" He looked at Rylee,
"He stayed for a couple of hours and left by 8 as he had some work emergency in the clan." She then squeezed him between her arms as she cried,

"Don't you dare stay out than long again, I had no competitor in school so I didn't go." Hayley smiled as a tear escaped from her eye and she hugged him too, Jonathan and Adam followed.
Rylee told him about the newcomers in the school and he was devastated that he wasn't the one to greet them and then they told him about Samantha coming over to heal him and his jaw dropped, "I thought we were enemies."
"She owed you, besides your sister and your friend here didn't give her much of a choice." Jon rolled his eyes as he looked at Rylee and Hayley,
"I did apologize though." Rylee shrugged
"These news are great and all but I want real actual news. Can you all get out and leave me with Jon for a bit?" He looked at Adam, Rylee and Hayley as they closed the door.
"I think I trust you now." Jon dimpled and so did Alec.
"Did you find anything new?"
"That's the thing. There is something I did not find, my father's diaries have gone missing. They are always in his office but when I went there a couple of days ago, I didn't find them. I searched the office then each inch of the house and still, I haven't find anything."
"Do you think they were stolen?" Alec frowned,
"Maybe. My father keeps.. kept everything in his diaries so we might find something related to the killer there."
"Do you trust Adam?"
"I think." Jon hesitated,
"His father is the chief of the Clan Of Knowledge, maybe he will be able to find something, if you want I can tell him to look the thing up for you, after all it was his father who examined the corpse of.."
"My father," Jon completed his sentence. "If you trust him I do, you saved my life on the first day of our acquaintance."
Alec looked at Jon and then he looked outside and waved his other friends to come back in, "so who visited?" He asked as they came in,
"Can't you see the flowers around you? The whole school man, we couldn't move from the amount of flowers in your room so we picked them up and took them outside." Adam replied,
"What can I do, I am popular after all." He shrugged.
Moments later the doctor entered the room and examined him as he asked him all about the poison, when will he be dismissed and when will he be able to use portals again.
"You will be dismissed by tomorrow, you can use your portals when you are dismissed but I warn you, your back may still hurt when you use them so it is better to wait." And then the doctor told Alec all about the poison and how he was shot, he then left the room and Alec seemed excited.

"4 bullets? That's a new record for a teenager, if you get more than that I will kill you all." He said as he laughed and when he stopped none of them laughed, they seemed more worried, "what's wrong?"
"Nothing." Rylee replied in an instance, Hayley looked at her and rolled her eyes,
"we want to go to the forest after you are dismissed, we think we have a clue about what happened to the goblin."
"And what's wrong in that? Sure. Let's go. Oh, didn't we have a meeting with Alberto Primaveri?"
"We delayed it, it is in 3 days." Adam replied, "I have to go now, someone gave me a mission." He looked at Jon, "will you be okay now?" He asked Rylee, "why don't you come with me, you can get some rest and perhaps we can go out after that."
"Yeah go with him!" Alec interfered,
"But-" he interrupted her,
"No buts, go with him!" He narrowed his eyes and she went with Adam.
Hayley and Jon stayed for a while too but Alec urged them to leave as well, after Jon gave up from Alec's nagging he left but Hayley was too stubborn so she stayed for the night. The next day, he was dismissed and his father went to the hospital and took him home, his father seemed restless, "looks like you have lots of work in the clan, chief." Alec grinned
"You have no idea boy. I need your help with some work, tomorrow is a vacation from school so if perchance you wanna come help me?" His father looked at him and then to the road, Alec thought that this will be a good quality time to spend with his father and so he accepted his offer.
When he arrived home, Mrs. Doris and Master Ramzy were there to meet him, the opened their arms and they both hugged him, he felt like a child but it was okay. It was 3 pm when Mrs. Doris came to his room, his room was spacious, his large bed had a window above it with dark blue wallpaper around it, beside the bed the wall was yellow and had an enormous unworking watch hanging on it. Next to the watch, there was a lamp and some drawers where he kept his daggers and paperwork..etc, on the other side beside the bed there was his large desk that was filled with comic books and his wardrobe, in front of the bed was a couch, a small table and his 48-inch television. Mrs. Doris told him that she made him his favorite lunch, chicken soup, lasagne and grilled chicken breasts. As he went downstairs, he saw Jon and Hayley sitting on the large dining table and they were waiting for him. They all ate and then Hayley excused herself and went to the guest room to get some sleep.
Jon and Alec went to the living room, playing cards and chess until it was night. Hayley woke up and they all went outside to the backyard which was cleaned. "A green moon." Hayley pointed as they all laid down with their backs on the grass.
"It is said it brings good luck." Jon replied,
"Rylee and I were born on a night of a green moon." Smiled Alec. Alec wished that they would stay like this forever, he felt good on the night of a green moon but Rylee and Adam interrupted the silence of the backyard as they told them that they had to go to the forest now.
The forest was as dark as that night, the trees covered the green moon and Alec was scared. As they reached the crime scene, there were guards this time; however Alec wasn't that relieved. As he saw the dead body again, everything came back flooding, he remembered the fight and then he remembered getting shot so his back started hurting him again. 'I need to be strong!' He thought and Hayley listened so she asked him if he is okay. They were all looking at him now so he smiled and said "everything is fine don't worry.", but it wasn't. They examined the body again but Alec wore his glasses this time so he can see better. "How can a body be unharmed yet murdered?" Hayley asked,
"It wasn't poison as there are no signs of struggle." Continued Alec,
"Besides there is no known poison that can kill goblins." Rylee said surely.
Alec's dagger appeared in his hand as he approached the body, he stabbed the goblin's hand and there was nothing coming out of it, he then tried the legs and nothing came out,
"Aren't there bodies reserved when they don't move? I thought blood doesn't crystalize in goblins." Jon asked,
"It doesn't, the blood was-" Hayley interrupted Alec
"taken from him."
"There are no bruises, how?" Questioned Adam,
"People of The River." Replied Rylee

8 209The Kodoku Game
In Japanese folklore, there once existed an ancient technique among alchemists for harvesting the strongest poison known to man. A poison so vicious, so horrendous, that a single drop could incapacitate an entire nation of humans, several times over. A poison so intense that a single drop could turn the tides of a war on its head. As potent as it appeared however, this poison could be harvested from the blood of a single insect alone- an insect the alchemist’s called the ‘Kodoku’. As lucrative as was attaining this poison however, the problem lied in identifying this insect- its appearance, shape and size changed from region to region and from continent to continent. Sometimes it took the appearance of a ladybug and other times a horned-beetle. In order to determine the identity of this special insect the alchemists came up with an ingenious method. They created an impregnable jar of clay out of the best sandstone they could find and placed hundreds of different insects into the same jar. The jar was made with such great mastery that it allowed no insects to escape and allowed no objects to enter. The laws of nature dictated that the insects would remain together in the jar forever. However, it turned out that as time went on, the insects’ hunger for food and power caused them to turn against each other- one insect ate another until only one remained. This sole insect contained a poison that far surpassed that of all the others and became stronger as it ate more and more insects. The alchemists at this point had succeeded in identifying the Kodoku and could extract it’s poison as long as they continued to feed it regularly. Although this folklore ends here, the actual story does not. One day, as the alchemists cheered in joy of having identified the Kodoku they so eagerly wanted, they forgot to close the lid on the very jar that was considered to be completely impregnable. This small gap was just large enough for the Kodoku inside to crawl out. Famished from not having been fed for weeks, the Kodoku ended up eating the very alchemists that nourished its growth until not even the bones remained. Yet, the Kodoku’s hunger didn’t seem to subside in the slightest. So it traveled to the next village and began eating whatever it could find there. Its poison made it unparalleled in strength and slowly but surely it began to dwindle down the population of the entire city. Yet its hunger only continued to grow. So it traveled to the next city over and ate all it could there. Very soon, the Kodoku couldn’t find any more food to eat. There was no one left to eat and no one left to spectate. So it stood there, by itself pondering what possibly was left to eat that could satiate its hunger. But there was one thing left that Kodoku realized it had never eaten. Itself.
