《The Red Sun》Chapter 13

After a while, we found ourselves approaching our village again. Talia said that we'd cover more ground if we ran, and so we ran. I stayed in front, just in case you know. Yet, we ran in silence really. We were both stressed because of our loved ones.

Once we could see our village, it looked like nothing was wrong, aside from a small plume of smoke where my house used to b. It was just then when I realized I had nothing. No house, no belongings, no stuff. Yet, I couldn't let that discourage me. I had a mission, and I had to complete it first try.

Talia finally stopped and asked, "Ok, we're here, what next?"

"I thought you knew!" I exclaimed back.

"What? You were in front so I assumed you knew where to go!"

"I just went in a straight line, the same line you were going in."

"Didn't Calibri tell you where to go?"

I slumped down on a boulder on the edge of the village.

"Well, where could they be?" I asked, and as if as an answer, the ground suddenly shook very violently, and a bright blue beam of...something started coming from the top of the mountain we had been on not an hour ago, shooting straight up into the air.

"Well, I think that pretty much answers our question!"

We started running toward the mountain and into an entrance I had found years before leading straight into a cave system running deep into the stone. I had never gone down it, it was far too dark and the wind going through it put out any torch you try to light. Yet, al Thalia had to do was conjure up a ball of fire, suspending it on her hand and lighting the passage down. It wasn't too long until light of its own started flowing out into the dull passage. We peaked out head around the next corner and what we saw was... amazing.

I could see it was the same cavern I had fallen into not a week before and in it were hundreds of people, all monsters, working to mine, bring materials, and build a huge machine in the center. It could be described a no other way than a monster. It looked like a goliath you might see at a convention being powered by steam. Yet, there was no steam coming out of anywhere, instead, there was a giant blue beam of nothing but power blasting out the top of the chamber. Then, Thalia saw her. It was her mom, stuck in a cage. She was slumped in the back of her box, looking down at the ground in an utter loss of hope.

Yet as soon as she saw this, Talia started running out into the chamber, running along the edge of the circular room, toward Amy's box. I started running after her, trying desperately to get her to duck into one of the tunnels we passed before we got noticed, yet, it was too late. A human suddenly called out and we only had barely enough time to get to Amy's cage before Tarran emerged from one of the dark caves. I quickly looked back to see Thalia trying to burn off the lock of the cage, yet it was only now that I could see Amy's skin was blue with bruises and red with blood, slashes, and what must have been torture. I looked back and saw Cassin standing in front of me, grinning.
