《Stephano》A visit to grandma

Dilla was sitting on her rocking chair on the porch of her house. She was in her late 70s but was as agile as ever.

Even as wealthy as her family was, she preferred to stay in a smallish cottage far away from the city.

A black SUV pulled up by her house and Leila flew out of the car to give her grandmother a bone crushing hug.

"Ah, my baby" Dilla exclaimed and kissed her little Leila.

It had been a while since she saw the little girl and was over joyed to see her now. In Leila's eyes, her grandmas grey hairs had probably doubled.

Dilla looked above Leila's head and saw a worried Sebastian staring back at her. That was when she get a hint of what all this was about.

"Leila go inside and I'll help with your bags okay?"

She nodded and ran into the house.

Dilla walked up to her son who was standing by his car. The worried expression was clear on his face and she knew what it was all about.

"He's coming again isn't he?" Dilla asked and that only thing Sebastian did was slightly nod his head.

"You can't hide her from him any longer, sooner or later she'll find out. She's not a baby anymore, she's ten."

He let out a long breathy sigh.

"I know mother but let her just stay with you for now. Even her brothers don't know about it, I can't tell her yet."

She didn't say any more than she had said. Dilla knew her son had wits so she dropped the conversation.

Sebastian kissed his mother's knuckles and got into his car. "Just a week mother." he said one more time and drove away.

Leila was unpacking her boxes and setting things up in her room. Dilla's house was basically just like her second abode because this room was specifically for her making it "her room".

It was pink and purple, her two favorite colours and with many butterfly paintings.

While unpacking, Leila's finger brushed a photo frame on the reading table. It was a picture of her mother and a faint smile appeared on Leila's face.

She didn't know her mother long enough so all the memories she had of her were quite faint. As everyone said, she looked very much like her late mother which was definitely not a lie. They shared every feature of her mother except her chestnut brown hair, that she inherited from her father.

Dilla was standing by the door watching Leila and Leila had not realized this yet.

"Come over here my dear" Dilla beamed all of a sudden causing Leila to shriek.

"Sorry to startle you dear" she laughed.

"You don't have to apologize Nana." Leila replied with a cheeky grin.

"it's time for dinner"

Leila's mood immediately brightened up. In fact, it always did when food was mentioned.

Her grandma had prepared a spicy bowl of noodles just like Leila enjoyed it. Her bowl was full to the brim and the bowl was quite large.

Dilla knew the kind of appetite her granddaughter had and it didn't show on her skinny body.

All of a sudden, she remembered that her bother Seth was going to be home soon and she didn't want to miss it, she abruptly dropped her forked into her ceramic bowl causing her grandma to risk a confused brow at her.

"any problem Leila? Is the food to spicy for you?"

"No. Not at all. I was just thinking of Seth, I really want to see him." she said with a pout.

"I'll call him so he can visit. I'm sure you'd like that won't you? "

A wide smile plastered her face and she got up from her seat to give her grandmother a bone crushing hug.

"Thank you very much" she squealed.....

It was bed time for Leila.

He grandmother had tucked her to bed but she couldn't shut her eyes.

She rolled off her bed and picked her diary from the bottom of her bed.

It had been a while since she had written and her had was kind of itching now that she thought of it

Getting comfortable on her bed, she switched on her night lamp and began writing with her "fancy pen" as she called it. She got it from her brothers on her eighth birthday as a gift and it had her name engraved on it.

When she wrote a line or two, she realized nothing interesting had happened so she tore off the pages and tossed it in the bin. If she was home, she would've used her telescope and look at the stars figuring their constellations.

She checked the bedside clock for the time. It was a minute past ten but she still didn't feel sleepy.

Her eyes wandered to her door as she thought about sleeping with her grandma. Her grandma always had remedies to put her to sleep so without much thought, she jumped from her bed and snuck to Dilla's room.

As she opened the door, it creaked and Dilla stirred in her sleep.

She was a light sleeper

Leila snuck up to Leila's Wood n bed and gave her a light tap on her shoulder.

Dilla's eyes cracked open and she saw Leila standing by her bed. She sat up and switched on her night lamp. "It's past your bedtime, why a you here." came her grandmas groggy voice most likely from the sleep. "Sorry grandma I couldn't sleep" said Leila in a half whisper.

"Climb on then." Dilla tapped the space beside her. Happily Leila climbed up her grandma's bed and layed beside her grandma snuggling up with her like a cat. Within a minute or two she was out.
