《Gay is Okay》Six - Loyal

I woke up with a sense of wooziness. I think it's because I didn't want to go to school. I'd have to face everyone I've been avoiding the past few days. I promised Charlotte I'd go, though. With a sigh I throw the blankets off me and get dressed. I jog downstairs to see my family beginning to pray. I join them and do my own silent prayer, just between God and I. May today be easy, amen. I eat my breakfast in silence before my mom is driving me to school.
"Have a good day, dear and if you feel sick just let the nurse know and I'll come for you, okay?" I nod at my mom before walking to my first class, meeting Charlotte at the door we greet in hugs.
"Hey, glad you made it, Boy. I was afraid we'd have to drag your ass out of bed."
I smile. "Well I did tell you I'd come, so I did." she smiles as the bell rings and before I walk in I bump into Damon. He looks at me then goes to his seat. He seems mad.
"Hey, what's up with Damon?" I ask Lilith. She looks at him then at me.
"He and Seth were arguing in the morning." Seth Dillard is known for calling gay people 'fags'. A lot of the people here don't like him.
"Do you know what was said?" I ask.
"Seth was bringing up Damon's parents and spouting nonsense."
"Like what?" I had to wait a few moments for her to respond since we were in the second row and the teacher was talking.
"He was saying that Damon's parents secretly hate him for being a fag." I felt bad for Damon. I wanted to help him in some way, but I didn't know how and I didn't think I should. I've never seen how Damon acts when he's angry, and if he's violent, I sure wouldn't like to bother him.

Charlotte, Jace, Lilith and I were laughing at Jace's awkward story when we walked out of the cafeteria and saw a crowd gathered around two people fighting. Someone moved and we saw Damon and and Seth fighting. Charlotte muttered 'shit' under her breath before we ran towards them.
"Damon, stop it!" She shouted. "You're going to get in trouble just stop!"
We were all shouting at him, telling him to stop but he wouldn't. I felt helpless not knowing how I could help. I made the sign of the cross hoping to God that what I was about to do wouldn't be stupid. I ran up to them and grabbed each of their shoulders trying to push them away from the other.
"Don't fucking grab me, I'm gonna kill this homophobic piece of trash!" Damon yelled. I looked at Charlotte for help and she told Jace to grab Damon while the girls grabbed Seth.
"Oh, I see you need your little faggot boyfriend to help you out!" Seth yelled. I slowly turned to look at him.
"What did you call me?' I asked lowly. He smirked dangerously.
"What are you gonna do, Church Boy? God isn't gonna help out some twink. You're gonna go to hell!" I punched him so hard in the jaw it felt like it was in slow motion. He fell to the ground, weak and almost unconscious. I balled my hands in fists as the whole crowd was silent, staring at me. I pointed at him with so much hatred.
"You don't get to decide that." I spat on him before looking at my friends, then at Damon and walking away.
During last period I was called into the office. I'm sure someone in the crowd snitched and said I was involved in the fight. Oh fuck, what am I going to say to my parents? I entered the building and walked straight to the principal's office. I knocked and heard him say I could come in and when I did, Damon was sitting in the left chair.

"Take a seat, Tristan." The principal said. I shut the door and sat in the right chair. "Mind telling me what happened?" I looked at Damon, as if asking him if I could tell my side of the story. He shrugged.
"Sir, if I may, Seth Dillard is an asshole. He insulted my religion and called me a, a," I didn't feel right saying the word. I had only came out to my friends. How did he know I was gay? Was he just trying to get a rise out of me?
"A what?" Principal Marquez asked. I got red with embarrassment. It felt like a bad word. Damon rolled his eyes before sitting up and telling the principal that Seth called us fags.
"What I want to know is why now, out of all other times Seth has insulted you, that you Damon decide to let it bother you." Damon is now the uncomfortable one.
"He-he brought up my family." Principal Marquez sat back in his chair and sighed.
"I'll call Seth's parents and tell them he has in-school suspension for a month. As for you two, it's a call home and a warning. You're dismissed." Damon and I got up and walked out of the building. He stopped me in the private part of the hallways.
"Why did you get involved? I could've handled it myself and that asshole deserved to get the shit beat out of him." I scoffed.
"Are you kidding me? You could've killed him and then you would've been in bigger trouble! Not to mention that I totally punched the heck out of him." Damon was fighting the urge to laugh. I was confused.
"What?" I asked almost annoyed.
"Why don't you cuss? I've heard you cuss once before but when you try to sound like a bad ass it just makes you look like a fuck boy." he can no longer fight the urge as he bursts into laughter. I try to stay mad at him but fail as I too begin laughing. Soon our laughing dies down.
"So, if you don't mind me asking, what did he say that really got you mad?" I ask. He looks at me quizzically. "I'm a bad-I'm a shit liar, so I know when others are lying." he bows his head.
"He said that there was no way you could be gay because you seem straight." I almost wanted to laugh at his lame excuse.
"What? That's what got you so mad?"
"When he talks about you, yeah."
"Why do you care if anyone talks about me?" He stared into my eyes, we stopped walking.
"Firstly, you're a great kisser," I laughed and asked what that had to do with anything. He shrugged with a smile. "Secondly, you're my friend and lastly, you just got in trouble for me. Why wouldn't I defend you if he talked shit?"
I licked my lips with a shy smile. "So, I'm a good kisser?" he chuckled and stuffed his hands in his pockets.
"Yeah,"
"That's funny because you were my first kiss." he looks completely shocked.
"No fucking way."
"Way," he smirks and cups my face before smashing his lips to mine. He pulls away while my eyes flutter open.
"Well now I'm also your second." the bell rings and he walks away to his fifth class, most likely to retrieve his backpack since he left it in there. I am just standing there still feeling the warmth of his hands and tasting his lips.
