《Heavens Light (A Magi Fanfic)》Chapter 15: Vulcan

I was in my room packing my things. I walked over to the bags and grabbed the one with the dragon egg. I walked over to my bed and sat down taking out the egg and unwrapping the cloth that was around it. I held it in my hands wondering what it will look like when it hatches. I just now noticed it had a slight gold color to it. It made the egg shine in the moon light. I heard a knock at the door making me snap my head up.
"It's opened." I said as Isabelle, Quinn, and Mabel came in. Mabel saw the egg and tilted her head to the side in confusion.
"I'm sorry, I never told you about the dragon egg." I said a little guilty.
"It's fine, when we we're walking down here they told me about it." she said walking over and sitting down next to me. Quinn and Isabelle sat on the other side.
"I can't believe your a princess of a kingdom that vanished." Quinn said smiling.
"Yea, and it vanished on my birthday." I said laying back on my bed the egg held to my chest.
"Isn't your birthday coming up here in a week in a half." Isabelle asked, I nodded and stared at the ceiling.
"Well I'm going back, we just came to see if you were alright because of what all happened." Mabel said walking over to the balcony. I looked at her confused before she pulled out her grappling hook.
"GAPPLING HOOK, AWAY!!!!" she yelled before shooting it to her right and swing off the balcony. We heard a small crash as I quickly sat up.
"I'M OK!!!!" I heard her yell. We all laughed at her stupidity, we we're about to die because I stomachs hurt so much. Once we calmed down, Quinn and Isabelle went back to their rooms. I decided to leave the egg out and set it in the corner of the room with a small blanket wrapped around it to keep it warm. It was a full moon outside, lighting up everything outside and my room. I layed down on the bed and stared at the stars. I always loved looking at the stars, it nice and relaxing. My eyes lids grew heavy as I fell into a deep sleep.
I was running in the woods as fear consumed me, I felt a presence behind me as a knife was thrown past me. I dodged more knives quickly, but one made contact to my leg making me fall in pain. I pulled it out and tried to get back up, but someone stepped down on my back. I looked up to see the man from the dream before, holding a sword in his hand. He rolled me over onto my back pinning me to the ground and grabbing my hands putting them above my head. I tried to break free, I moved my leg from under him and knead him in his special place. He release me, falling off of me holding is now, more likely broken, special spot. I backed up a little transforming my braclet into my sword. He slowly got up, trying his best not to puke.
"That was a dirty trick, but thats why I like you, princesd." he said in the same chilling voice. He charged forward as I blocked his attack with my sword. They smashed together as we keeped blocking each others attack. I stabbed at his mid section just grazing his side, then round house kicked him making him fly into a near by tree. He grunted as he slide to the ground and coughed a couple of times.

"Like a weak attack like that isnt going to take me down." he said charging again.
I opened my eyes to the sun blinding me. I sat up and looked around.
"Another dream, but this one didn't feel real." I thought as I looked to where I put the egg. My heart skipped a beat when I notice it wasn't there. I quickly got out of bed, but almost collapsed from getting up to fast. I leaned against the wall and shook my head trying not to pass out. When I regain my composer I ran to the blanket and check. Nope nothing at all. I looked around the room for any sign of it. I heard a small scratching noise under the bed making me stop and turn to the bed. I heard the door open as Alibaba walked in, more likely in here to wake me up. He looked at the bed, then spotted me. He walked over with a wide smile.
"What are you, majbdkkabisbzjnshjsnxj." I covered his mouth, muffling the rest he was going to say. I stared at the bed intensely making him confused. I released him and walked up to the bed, I knelt down picking up the cover, peeking under the bed. I looked around until I spotted what was making the noise.
"Alibaba, come here, you won't believe what I just found." I said waving him over. He walked over and looked under the bed.
"Is that what I think it is!" he asked surprised. Sure enough, there sat a little red dragon the was about as long as your forearm without it's tail and was a little taller then your ankle. It hat the egg shells scattered everywhere, and one small peice sat on it's head. It turned to us and the egg shell peice fell off his head as he titled his head to the side. It just made my heart melt, it was so adorable. I backed away the covers still lifted up, Alibaba backed away too. I thought for a moment before setting my hand in the floor and patted it. Right as I did the little dragonet came out from under the bed. His green eyes looked back and forth between me and Alibaba. His eyes landed on my before he walked up beside me and sat down.
"Master." it said in a cute little voice. I surprised me and Alibaba.
"Oh my god, your so cute and you can talk too." I said picking it up and hugging it lightly. It snuggled up to me enjoying my hug. I set it back on the floor, but soon felt pain go into my hand.
"Ow, that hurt." I said looking at my hand to see a small marking that looked like a dragon. I soon knew out of instict that it was a boy.
"You ok?" Alibaba asked grabbing my hand and looked at it. I blushed a little as he gentle looked at my hand. The little dragonet snapped at him making him let go.
"No touching master." the little dragonet growled, a little spout of fire came out of his mouth.
"Bad dragon, no biting at my friends." I said scolding him, but in a gentle tone. He hung his head in shame for displeasing me.
"I'm sorry." he apologized. I just picked him up and smiled at him.
"It's ok, just don't do it again." I said giving him a cheerful smile. Even though he's a dragon, I could see the corner of his mouth curl up into a smile.

"What you going to name him?" Alibaba asked looking at the dragonet with a small smile.
"Um, how about Vulcan." I said as the little dragonet jumped out of my arms and hopped around me.
"Me like, me like, me like!!" he cheered stopping next to Alibaba, putting his hands on his lap, and looked at me and him happily. We both laughed a little at his excitement. I stood up walked over to his small bag that I used for placing him in.
"Vulcan, we are going to be traveling, so I want to to ride in here, ok." I said setting the bag on the bed. He tried to jump up onto the bed, but failed.
"Here, let me help you." Alibaba said picking up Vulcan and placing him on the bed. Vulcan ran to the bag and jumped into it snuggling up to the cloth I had in it.
"Vulcan sleep." he said yawning before going to sleep
"He's so adorable." I said sitting down on the bed with a smile.
"Yea, but your a lot more cute." Alibaba said sitting down smiling at Vulcan too. I looked at him wide eyed and blushed a deep shade of red.
"What!?" I asked as he looked at me confused, then he blushed like a mad man realizing what he just said.
"W-well that's what I h-heard." he stuttered trying to cover up what he said. I looked away and put my hands on my face. He looked away also.
"L-let's get going." I said grabbing my backpack and putting the bag Vulcan was in carefully over my shoulder, trying not to wake him. We walked out of the room as I started to head to Quinn's room.
"Ashlin, everyone is waiting at the gate." Alibaba said. I blinked a couple of times before turning around and headed for the gate. Once we arrived everyone was standing there including Sinbad and the eight generals, I only now hald of them, the rest I don't. I walked to Sinbad as he handed me the map.
"Have a safe journey, Judar no funny business." he said strictly to him. Judar just rolled his eyes and looked away.
"Before I leave, I want to show you something, no freaking out or I'll hurt you if he wakes up." I said as I opened my bag revealing Vulcan. Sinbad smiled as he looked down at him.
"Well, isn't he cute, make sure to keep him safe." he said patting my head like a small child.
"Hope you get eaten by monsters." I heard Jafar say. I turned to see him glaring at Mabel like always. She just crossed her arms and sighed.
"What ever, I don't care what you say." she said walking away leaving him stunned.
"Looks like someone is ignoring you." Quinn said teasingly. Jafar glared at her making me laugh a little. He just huffed and turned away.
"How's the egg?" Isabelle asked walking over. I smiled at her making her smile back as well.
"Let's just say he hatched this morning and is now sleeping in my bag." I said making everyone smile with joy.
"Can we see him?" Mabel asked jumping up and down.
"Later, he's asleep right now and I don't want anyone bothering him." I said making everyone pout, expect Alibaba since he seen him already.
"At the port, there is already a ship waiting for you, they now where to go." Jafar said pushing us out the gate. They started to close as we turned around and waved. We headed down to the port through the market. I stopped at a shop and saw a necklace with a really detailed sword pendent hanging on it. I smiled as I walked in to the counter, there was a man about a couple years older then me standing there.
"Excuse me, but how much is that necklace for." I asked pointing to it. He smiled happily and walked over and grabbed it, placing it in my hand.
"For a cute young girl like yourself, I'll give it to you for free." he said kindly smiling.
"Are you sure that's alright?" I asked a little worried if it was ok. He nodded before walking back behind the counter. I smiled as I looked at it.
"Since Alibaba got me a braclet, I'll give him this." I thought as I said thank you to the man and walked out of the shop. I placed it in my bag so he wouldn't see it.
"Who's the lucky person." Quinn said next to me making me jump.
"Don't sneak up on me like that." I said with a sigh. "I got it for Alibaba for a thank you gift for the braclet."
"Is that truly the reason, or is it because you like him." she said giggling a little. I felt heat rush to my face, making really red.
"That's not true, I'm just being nice." I said turning my head so she couldn't see my red face anymore. We soon caught up with everyone at the port and set sail for my homeland. We went into our rooms, since there is more people now, the boys get one room and the girls get the other. I set my stuff down and sat on the bed they had for us. I set the bag with Vulcan on my lap. Little Rea jumped out of Quinn's small bag she had with her.
"Ow, Rea got really big." I said shock, I wasn't the only one. Quinn was shocked as well. Rea was about a little below the knee in height.
"She wasn't that big before." Quinn said sitting down next to me. "I guess a creature like her grows fast to survive or something." Rea jumped up onto the bed and sniffed the bag. It moved as little before Vulcan poked his head out.
"Oh my god, he's so cute, what's his name?" Isabelle said really happy.
"It's Vulcan." he said jumping out of the bag. Everyone gasped in surprise.
"He can talk!?" Morgianna asked, I completely forgot she was here.
"Yep, me can talk, once can fly, me grow into big dragon." he said all excited spreading his little red wings out trying to look scary. We all melt from his adorablness, who can resist a cute little dragon.
"Why don't we try teaching you how to fly now." I said making him snap is head toward me, happiness in his eyes. He nodded up and down, standing up.
"Ok, let's go on deck then." I said standing up walking to the door. He jumped off the bed and cheered with joy. He jumped up as I caught him in my arms, then placing him on my shoulder. I opened the door to be greeted my the boys, their eyes wide, except for Alibaba. He walked up to me and patted Vulcan's head.
"See, I told you he hatched." Alibaba said with a stupid grin on his face. Judar was looking at the dragon like he never seen one before.
"Have you seen a dragon before?" I asked him knocking him out of his thoughts an then looked at me.
"Of course I have." he said getting a little nerves. Vulcan started to laugh and jumped at him making Judar hide behind Hakuryuu. I burst into a fit of laughter along with the rest of the gang.
"Wow, your scared of him aren't you." I said still laughing, he looked at me with a glare. I gave him a cute smile, making him blush a little red a look away. I saw his reactions making me feel like puking.
"Please don't tell me he blushed from me smiling." I thought full of hope I was wrong.
"Let's go, I want to fly." Vulcan said running off to who knows where.
"Wait, Vulcan." I said chasing after him the others following behind. We soon caught him and headed up to the deck to teach him how to fly.

The Last Science [SE]
[SE has the same content as the original story, split into smaller chunks for easier reading. This story is on a temporary hiatus due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. I work in healthcare and unfortunately no longer have the freetime to continue posting on a regular basis. As soon as our workload decreases, I will return. Thanks for reading! 💙] No one ever knows the whole story. Deep in the forests of the Pacific Northwest, the fading town of Rallsburg stumbles upon an amazing discovery—magic itself. Faced with potentially world-shattering power, the people of Rallsburg keep the secret for themselves. Led by Rachel DuValle, a perpetually underestimated college student with grand ambitions, they seek to found a new society. The world beyond suspects nothing, but magic cannot stay hidden forever. A train arrives in Rallsburg carrying Alden Bensen, a directionless high school graduate. To him, magic could represent meaning for his life, an explanation for his empty existence. This potent force offers anyone the power to change humanity forever—or send it cascading into swift and total annihilation. The Last Science is an ongoing science-fiction / low-fantasy web novel series, focused on the modern world with a twist. New societies bud and grow, but the people who make them up are imperfect and flawed. The story includes elements of mystery, action, crime, interpersonal drama, relationships, philosophy, sociology, politics, and much more, all centered on the perspective characters driving the tale. This is the "Scraps Edition" of the story, where the chapters have been split up into bite-size chunks (roughly 1500-3000 words), for your convenience. The prose has been edited from its original form, with some improvements, but there are no content differences from the original. New chapters will be posted throughout each week starting on Friday and appearing on multiple days thereafter, depending on the length of the chapter. Content Warning (by request): This series delves into some topics and situations which may be upsetting for some readers. In American rating parlance, the narrative would be rated PG-13 (except for language), but some have noted the story can get pretty dark on occasion.
