You and Ruby were brought into an interrogation room. The two of you sat next to each other under the bright white lamp, waiting for the person that Glynda mentioned earlier.
Ruby gave your shoulder a nudge, whispering, "Why do you think we're here?" You shook your head. "I have no clue. Professor Goodwitch, why are we--"
Your question had been cut off by the high, groaning sound of the opened door. You, Ruby, and Glynda turned to see a man with silver hair and thin brown eyes hiding behind his glass spectacles. He was dressed in a dark green, buttoned vest with a green shirt underneath, an unzipped black coat over his vest, dark green slacks, and black trousers. He also had a warm cup of hot cocoa in one hand, a plate of chocolate chip cookies in another, and attached to his left hip is a long cane with a white handle, a spherical collar with two gold bevel gears, and a black shaft. You could tell from his aura that he's a powerful Huntsman.
"Ruby Rose and..." The middle-aged man glanced over at you. You assumed he didn't know your name, but as you went to answer him he replied, "[Y/N] [L/N]."
'How did he know my name?'
Well, he's still salty over you not picking him for tonight's brawl.
You broke away from your thoughts as the newcomer placed down a plate of cookies in front of you and Ruby. He leans down, staring into her eyes. "You... have silver eyes." The man murmured.
"U-Um..." Ruby didn't know how to reply. Later on, his brown eyes strayed to your [E/C] pair. He stood there, just staring at you for a minute or two before turning his attention to the tablet that Glynda was holding. It was a video of you and Ruby fighting against Roman's henchmen; and there was another clip of you and Dragreder shooting fireballs at the airship from earlier.
"So! Where did you learn to do this?" He raised his voice, startling you and Ruby. "S-Signal Academy..." The noirette answered with a shaky voice. You spoke calmly, "From past friends."
"They taught you to use one of the most dangerous weapons ever designed?" He directed the question to Ruby, which she replied with, "Well, one teacher in particular."
"I see..." The silver-haired male says, and Ruby begins to stuff her mouth with cookies. Turning his head towards you, he inquired, "As for you, where and how did you learn to tame a dragon? Though I can't say it's impossible because, at this point, anything is possible, but a human such as yourself would've been killed on the spot. However, that isn't the case... It's as if you called this dragon to assist you in tonight's battle."
You put your elbows on the table, resting your head in your hands. "It's complicated. You see, I'm not from around here and I think you've noticed, mister. I didn't choose this path, but he chose me to be his partner."
Glynda and the brown-eyed male regarded you with quizzical expressions. "By he... do you mean the dragon?" You nod as confirmation. "Mhm. Before any of it, I wasn't a fighter. I wanted to just live my life, go to school, and get a job, but I had to put everything on hold after contracting with Dragreder."
"Ish dat de drawon we shaw frum earwier?" Ruby asked with a mouthful of cookies. You giggled and grabbed a box of tissues from across, taking one article and gently wiping the crumbs from the corners of her lips. She reddened at the mere touch.

"Yeah. He's nice when you get to know him. Luckily, you haven't seen him in the past. He tried to eat me on our first encounter!"
The blonde Huntress and the silver Huntsman exchanged a look before coming back to their senses. "Miss Rose, you remind me of one other scythe-wielder of that skill before. A dusty, old crow."
"Mmmm! Thash muh unkul!" You tapped her shoulder, pointing to your mouth and whispering, "Ruby... It's rude to talk with a stuffed mouth." She blinked, then later gulped the baked goods down. "Oh! Sorry, that's my Uncle Qrow! He's a teacher at Signal! I was complete garbage before he took me under his wing. And now I'm all like-- Hooowaaah! Witchaaaa!" Ruby indicated with her hands karate-chopping in the air. Now, that was adorable.
He smiled. "So I've noticed." Laying his mug down onto the table, the Huntsman sat across from you and Ruby. "What is an adorable girl such as yourself doing at a school designed to train warriors? And, what is another adorable girl from another country, doing here at Vale?"
"Well... I want to be a Huntress." Ruby answered solemnly, staring right into his brown eyes. "You want to slay monsters?" He affirmed. She nodded. "Yeah! I only have a few months of training left at Signal. And then I'm going to apply to Beacon."
The duo raised an eyebrow, but allowed Ruby to continue. "You see, my sister's starting there this year, and she's trying to become a Huntress, and I'm trying to become a Huntress 'cause I wanna help people. My parents always taught us to help others, so I thought, 'Hey, I might as well make a career out of it!' Hehe... I mean the police are alright, but Huntsmen and Huntresses are just so much more romantic and exciting, cool, and really, gosh, you know!?"
The sudden outburst made Glynda concerned, the male's face was expressionless, and you only chuckled. The Huntsman soon broke the absolute stillness. "...Do you know who I am?"
"Nope." You said and popped the second to last syllable of the word. A differentiation between your answer and Ruby's was remotely clear as she responded, "You're Professor Ozpin. You're the headmaster of Beacon."
'I wouldn't be surprised if he came straight from the film.'
"Hello." He greets you and Ruby. "Nice to meet you." The scythe-wielder bowed her head. You only gave a small wave. Ozpin slightly slouched against his seat, putting forward, "You want to come to my school?"
"More than anything." Ruby quietly beamed. Before answering, Ozpin peeked over his shoulder to see Glynda's bright green eyes boring into him. With a sigh, she changed the course of her rolling eyes from him to the walls of the room. "Hmmph."
"Well okay." Through Ruby's eyes, they flashed a feeling of great enthusiasm and eagerness at Ozpin's answer. Her grin became wider and she shot up out of her seat, running around the interrogation room. "Oh... my... gosh! I'm going to Beacon! I've never expected this day to come! Well, I did, but I didn't think I'd get accepted! Woohoo!"
As Ruby danced across the room, Ozpin and Glynda turned to you. "Miss [L/N], how about you? Would you like to come to my school?" A sullen look furrowed your brow. You shook your head and answered, "I appreciate it, Professor Ozpin, but I'm going to decline your offer."
"What?! [Y/N], you... don't want to go to Beacon with me?" Ruby gasped, gawking at you with wide, saddened eyes. Glynda hadn't said much, but judging by her dismayed, or even offended, profile, her response was clear as day. Ozpin slightly frowned, but nonetheless kept his calm tone. "Why so?"

You avoided their gaze by staring down at your hands. You drew in a ragged breath before explaining, "I know what's at stake for me if I take this opportunity. And, I don't want to be reminded of the past... I've been at war before, and... I made mistakes and committed many sins. I kept telling myself that I had no choice or else they would've killed me. In the end, I realized that justice was never served. My comrades and enemies thought that this war was some kind of fairy tale. We all dreamed of a happy ending, but none of us got that. All we got was a bunch of haunting memories, and the last person to survive the war got one stupid wish."
You frowned and dug your nails into the palm of your hand. "And, I used that wish to bring back the normality they once had in Japan... All of my friends, acquaintances, and enemies were resurrected and they returned to their previous lives. Yet, I still can't get rid of this sickening feeling. The memory of having to kill them before they killed me... I can never forget it... I can't forget any of it. I didn't want to kill anyone... I don't want to get involved in another war."
They were silent. Ozpin and Glynda were attempting to register the information, whereas Ruby slid in her chair and laced her warm fingers together with your cold digits. You looked up at Ruby, her silver eyes lit with empathy. "No one is going to make you do anything you aren't comfortable with. Although I don't understand what you're going through, I think going to Beacon would be a nice change. You won't have to bottle up your feelings. You can share them with the friends you'll make there and me! And, if you do lose control, then... I'll stop you. I promise you that."
"But--"
"Nope! I won't hear any of it! You may have done the unthinkable, but it isn't your fault for wanting to live. Although I do think killing someone is a bit... overboard. It isn't anyone's fault if they desire to live. You're living now, and you said they've been resurrected... So, take one step at a time. Continue to live and learn from the past. You'll continue to fear the presence and the future, but you'll also love them at the same time. We shouldn't fear the past, but rather take that as a chance to learn and improve from them. We're human after all."
"I..." For someone that stuffs her face with cookies and has a romanticized vision of being a Huntress, she sure is sophisticated and understanding.
"Not trying to sound rude, but you may be overthinking it. Don't let yourself be drowned in sorrow. As I've said before, you can work on overcoming the past by leaning on your friends. Assuming that they lost their memories or their memories have been erased, you can still interact and lean on them. Don't run away or let go of them. You'll just have to accept the reality within time."
"And, you'll help me through this..?"
Ruby smiled softly and hugged you. "Absolutely! That's what friends are for!" You froze at first, but eventually reciprocated the gesture. "Please don't leave me... If you do though, I'll just have Dragreder and Dragblacker hunt you down."
The scythe-wielder went stiff, unable to move due to the bone-chilling fear that emerged from your slight threat. "W-Wait... you have two dragons!? Uh... remind me to never make you angry." You both erupt in laughter.
Ozpin and Glynda silently watched, observing and listening to you and Ruby. With new information acquired from your whereabouts, they turned their heads to look at one another. Upon hearing part of your background, they began to question themselves. They were protecting the universe from the darkness, but was justice actually being served? There was hope and peace within Remnant, but how long will that remain? Time and their choices will tell...
Ozpin raised an eyebrow ever so slightly and smiled at Glynda's poker face. "Glynda, you seem to be induced by displeasure. Or perhaps a fit of jealousy?" The blondette flushed angrily and denied his claim. "That isn't the case, Ozpin! I don't have time for things such as love."
He shrugged and sipped on his hot cocoa. "Anything could happen. And, I suppose Miss [L/N] is taking my offer after all. She has nowhere to sleep, so please prepare a spare room for her."
The blonde Huntress only bobbed her head and left the room. Ozpin spun his head back to you and Ruby. The two of you were still hugging, but it seems like you had fallen asleep in her arms. "She fell asleep... Awe, she's so cute..." She whispered, not wanting to wake you.
Ozpin leaned back in his chair, his hands laced together in his lap. "What an interesting girl we have here..."
The moment you opened your eyes, you were struck by a shaft of sunlight. Your immediate reaction was to cover your eyes with the red blanket that you were snuggling into, but there came a sudden realization. "I'm not at home am I..?"
You sat up and examined the room you were in. Surrounded by white walls, there was a wooden table across from you, a door on your right side in which you presumed was the bathroom, a window on the left side of the room, and another door situated next to the piece of furniture. Your eyes drifted to the floor, and there laid your luggage and belongings.
You let out a relieved sigh and pushed away the red covers. Starting the day off with a warm shower, you did the rest of your daily routines and changed into a black t-shirt with your trench coat over it, blue jeans, and white sneakers.
You stashed yesterday's outfit back into your luggage, grabbing your phone, earphones, wallet along with the Advent Decks before zipping it close. You stuffed your phone, earphones, and wallet in one pocket, and the Advent Decks in the other.
Your eyes wandered over to the window. The blue sky hung over the city, and the sun disappeared behind the clouds. You sauntered towards the glass casement, admiring the view from above. You could feel the morning breeze behind the window. Was this how you'll begin my new journey? Joining a Huntsman Academy and battling against the Creatures of Grimm you've heard about from the taxi driver?
"A goodmorning to you too, you grumpy 'ol dragon. How'd you sleep?" His response came out as a groan.
"Woah there! Easy now... You're usually not this angry in the morning. What's gotten into you?" You raised an eyebrow, earning a growl this time from the dragon.
Dragblacker:
You let out a long sigh and strolled to the door that's next to the wooden table. "Sorry... I'm worried about my stay here at Beacon. If they built a Huntsman Academy here in Vale, then that means we're in the middle of a war or there's bound to be one! We've recently survived the Rider War and barely made it out alive. I don't want to deal with another!"
Dragblacker:
"I want to live my life, Dragblacker. But, I just wish I could erase the part where I had to kill some of the Riders with these hands... How? How could you kill without having to feel sick in the stomach?" I asked him.
Dragblacker:
Your hand rested on the door knob, but you made no sign of movement or motion to turn it. "Why do you think that..?"
Dragblacker:
"And, these stories are what gave them the ideals that they wished to live by and uphold throughout their lives. However, Shiro and Yui weren't able to obtain their ideal happy ending... They were supposed to die in the Rider War and they did, but once they were resurrected, every trace of the Mirror World, monsters, and Kamen Riders had been erased from their hearts and minds. But in Ruby's case, her story is just starting..." You finished for the black dragon, staring down at your hand that's now turning the knob.
Dragblacker had spoken no more, and as you were about to head out, you caught sight of a note on the desk. It read:

Where Giants Fall
A fantasy LitRPG about traversing through worlds and slaying giants with nothing but a wooden suit and an army of treants. Nicholas Atkins didn't expect to wake up naked in the glowing woods. What he did expect was waking up to a hangover after last night's party- fortunately, that wasn't the case. Unfortunately though, he had worse problems to take care of than a headache. At first he blamed it on the alcohol; from what he recalled in Biology, glowing flowers didn't exactly exist in the realm of reality. However he was as sober as he could be, so next he blamed the drugs, but there was a problem- he didn't have the money to do drugs in the first place. When the fairies came, things became even weirder. Talks of climbing towers, magic tricks, and dinner were all on the table. Of course, dinner was the priority, but so was getting back home. However slowly, Nico realized that he might actually want to stay in this fantasy world. After all, he's had enough listening to Professor Paul's lecture on calculus- the swords and sorceries were just an added bonus. Still, staying in this new world has its own costs- and money is but one thing on that long, long list. Updated everyday except Saturday GMT+8 (Specific time varies by around 30 minutes). 8 94MANTIS: On Hiatus
Two young adults who were childhood friends are killed amidst a pandemic worse than our own. After many years apart, Rihelah was on her way to see Michael, hoping to rekindle their friendship on the day they would both lose their lives. The pair are unwittingly selected to represent Earth in a test set forth by godlike beings who are intrigued that our world gave rise to complex life without having been intentionally seeded by their kind. Michael and Rihelah are reincarnated as predatory insects upon a distant planet called Edon. Elves, Dwarves, Dragons and their kin, Goblins, Ogres, Humans, Lizardfolk, Orcs, and sapient arthropods known as Enkelyn all inhabit this beautiful world touched by magic. The tiny mantids must survive terrified and very much alone upon arrival, while neither is aware that the other has also been reincarnated upon the same island. Naked in their new chitinous exoskeletons, they must now brave the terrors of an alien world's food chain. Each will benefit from their years of experience on Earth, but they must somehow find a balance between old lives and new. Moderate mindsets and peaceful values from a mostly safe and privileged life on Earth must now contend and somehow coexist with the strange physiology of a new and unfamiliar body as well as the violent aggressiveness of a predator's mind. To top things off, the pair are about to find themselves struggling with their inner turmoil while swept up by terrible conflicts they know nothing about. Both endure the hardships of their new lives while attempting to understand and make proper use of a mysterious and terse video-game-like System that pops status notifications into their vision from time to time, but initially has no useful interface. Some of the options they are presented with sound enticing, but as with everything else in life, each choice has benefits and drawbacks... Author's Note: This story makes many changes to the original version, and readers of Mantid will find that many things in Mantis are new and different; especially after the first few chapters. I've learned a ton from writing like a madman, and also from the RR community. I appreciate you guys! :)

MC is strong from the word go and he has a specific goal. He's also learned many skills before the beginning of the novel, so don't expect a murderhobo for levels. That being said, the mc will grow stronger and will have become so strong (not overpowered) by the end of the first book. There are many races besides humans but they are not the main focus of the story, so they will only appear when the plot involves them. This novel is dedicated to the late William Wilberforce. *** I made the cover picture from picart. Original images don't belong to me. If you are the owner and you want it removed just pm me.
