《My Vampire (Book Three)》Chapter 22

"You left her! You left her there! She was right there!" I scream at Selene as she sobs loudly mourning over her dead sister.
"I couldn't...I-" she's take a gulp of air but continues to cry and dig her hands into the grass in front of her as her shoulders shake with each sob she lets out.
I pace back and forth and a picture of Ada's unconscious body flashes through my head and I only grow more angry.
"Take me back. We can still save her. Take me back now!" I yell at her but she only shakes her head.
"The sun..." she chokes out and I look up high around the tops of the pine trees that surround Mark's house and notice the beginning of the sunrise slowly peaking through each branch and I clench my fists.
"That should make it easier doesn't it? He can't fight us during the day!" I say trying to persuade her and again she shakes her head.
"They're hiding somewhere dark, even if we did find them and managed to get her he'd stop us! And if we got her away from him she would burn is that what you want??!" She screams at me as more tears flow down her cheeks. My chest tightens a little at the thought of Ada remaining alone with him for an entire day.
"What will she do to me.." I hear Selene softly gasp and I assume she means her mother. She runs a hand through her hair frustrated and only cries some more.
"Come on." I extend my hand towards her and she looks at me confused and wary of the gesture.
"I'm sure Gabriel must be awake by now." I say and she slowly grabs my hand and I pull her up and we walk to the house quietly. It's literally the crack of dawn so it's no surprise that the house is completely quiet but that doesn't explain the strange feeling I get from inside.
I open the door and Selene sniffles and wipes away her remaining tears as we walk in. The first thing I notice is Io sitting calmly staring at wall, she doesn't turn to look at us.
"Mother...I-" Selene starts talking but stops when Gabriel walks into the living room calmly staring between me and Selene who now has her head down in shame. He walks closer until he is standing right in front of us and nods his head to me as a gesture of acknowledgement.
"Good to see you're still alive pup." He says and doesn't give a second glance to Selene. Her shoulders begin to shake and I know she's crying again and Gabriel finally looks down at her and to my surprise he wraps his hand around the back of her head and places it against his chest and her hands wrap around his waist immediately.

"Why do you comfort her?" I look around Gabriel and see a tear slowly rolling down Io's cheek and she meets my eyes.
"She let that monster kill my daughter." She says her voice shaking and Gabriel only holds Selene tighter.
"You're not the only one who lost someone. It wasn't her fault." Gabriel says and I feel like I'm intruding on something personal since they are technically a family.
"And you? You're the cause of all this!" Io slightly raises her voice and stands and looks at me.
"I was only trying to get back my mate." I growl and Gabriel takes a deep breath and clenches his eyes shut.
"I'm sorry I couldn't protect her Isaac. We'll get her back I promise." He says and it's reassuring to know someone in this pack cares about her even though it's not in the way I want.
"What about me? Can you bring back my daughter? Can you bring back Juno!?" Io yells her voice deepening as she says her name and her eyes slowly turning black and the entire house shakes for a moment.
I hear a growl come from upstairs and I sigh already receiving a message from Mark through our mind link.
Whatever is going down there take it somewhere else before my sons wake up.
He says and I look at Gabriel who nods understanding.
"Isaac. Go home. You haven't slept all night." Gabriel says and I notice Io is still angry but I don't say anything and gladly leave the chaos that was about to begin.
I never realized just how long the walk to my home was until I realized I wasn't going home at all, I just kept walking deeper and deeper into the woods.
Then I realized the setting around me was becoming familiar, painfully familiar. I walk up slowly to one large tree and I notice the way the bark on one side looks terribly scratched off, I even tear off a lingering piece and my eyes wander up to the nearest branch.
"This is where we met." I say quietly to myself and my heart aches. I remember just how much I wanted to kill her and now I want nothing more than to just see her standing in front of me.
He'll suffer for taking her away.
My wolf threatens to take over just thinking about her with him and my claws extend and I dig them slowly into the bark and drag them down feeling the need to kill something until I hear it, the smallest noise that makes my heart skip a beat.

"Isaac.." I hear a small whimper and turn around and see Ada collapse and her exposed arms beginning to turn red and sizzle under the sun beating down on her, I'm almost too shocked to move.
"Isaac!" She says louder and I realize she's in pain and I rip off my jacket immediately and run towards her to place it over her head and hold her close to me.
"You're here...how.." I stutter and feel my eyes beginning to burn with tears of happiness.
"Nothing will keep you from me.." She says quietly and I pick her up and immediately start running to take her out of the sun and back home.
"Shh I'm almost done." Desi's voice says soothingly but does nothing to help the pain I feel all over my body.
"She's one powerful witch. Not as strong as her sister tasted of course." He smirks and I peek over at the young girl's corpse in the corner of the cave Desiderius constructed to protect us from the sun.
"It hurts. That bitch." I say through gritted teeth as he waves his hand again over my body and I whimper as the pain slowly decreases.
"Who were they? That man.. He looked familiar. His name..it's aaah!" I groan as Desiderius places his hand on my forehead and my head begins swimming with memories I can't even see and I feel calm when he removes his hand.
"He's no one my love." He says and caresses my cheek.
"If he is no one then why did he try to kill you and take me?" I ask and slowly sit up.
"They think I can cure the wolves I've turned in their pack and wanted to use you." He says and tucks a piece of hair behind my ear.
"Why would they do that..why are you turning them..I can't remember.." I hiss in pain as what feels like a razor dragging across my brain goes through my head.
"It doesn't matter. Do you remember what I told you last night? About our plan?" He says and I nod my head.
"I can't leave you again..what if you need me.." I say and feel my eyes heat up.
"I need you for this. You are a key part to this project my love." He says holding my face in his hands and I try my best not to cry.
"Why do we need to do this? We've lived for centuries with wolves why have you decided now to kill them?" I raise my voice and he growls and snatches his hands away from me and I flinch thinking he'll hit me.
"They've become too much of a nuisance now. I'm sick of hiding from them. Soon enough I will have built an army of hybrids to take down this pack, one of the largest packs in the country, and every wolf will fear us and we'll kill them one by one. But I need your help Ada. You have to lure them to me. I need you." He says more kind and I nod my head and stand up.
"Can you sense where he is now?" He says and I close my eyes and feel some part of me drawn to the wolf from last night and I catch his scent immediately.
"Yes." I say and Desi smiles.
"Good. You can drink some of my blood to make it there in time before the sun starts to effect you. That witch's blood is still coursing through me." He says and extends his arms and I bite into it immediately enjoying the taste and the power that comes with it.
"Go. Remember everything I've told you. They can't be trusted. But do anything necessary to make them trust you. I'm the one you need Ada." He says and kisses my forehead, I close my eyes enjoying the moment but when he pulls back I waste no time. My body immediately begins to lead me to where the wolf is and strangely the closer I get to him, I feel a stronger pull just like last night. I could feel what he was feeling, such an agonizing heart break. I whimper as the sun's beams grow stronger and I squint my eyes to see better. In seconds I face his back and his name rolls from my tongue like nothing, like I knew it all along. But the look in his eyes when he saw me...Desiderius never looked at me like that. He never held me like this...I almost enjoyed it. Almost. But then I remember what Desiderius had told me, they could not be trusted, this would all be over soon and they will all be dead.

In my world, there are only idiots who know nothing of the true workings of the world. They only see what is shown to them, only accepting and not questioning anything. They brag about the strength given to them yet do not know how or where that power comes from. Sick of this competition for power that is unfair to all who participate, I’m tired of being given choices that seem fine to others but don’t make any sense to me. Others are blessed with supreme talent, others are born cripple; the world is unfair and that is a fact. But what if you could see? What if the world was open to you and only you? Would your life change forever? Would you become a King amongst men? OF COURSE NOT! For the heavens are fair and they shall maintain the balance of the realm, no matter what the case. Did I ask for the knowledge I was given? NO! Did I ask for the abilities I was given? NO! So then why make me different? Why turn me into a monster who sees all yet cannot participate in the competition for power that you have arranged? WHY HAVE THE HEAVENS FORSAKEN ME? From birth I saw everything, nothing could escape my sight. However, the heavens made me a cripple, they put me in the shadows and I can’t help but yearn for the light. Why am I still of the living then? Well, Why should I give the Heavens the satisfaction of seeing me give up? I will not submit to the heavens nor will I submit to the bastards that wish to use me. All I can do now is continue to rebel against everything. All I can do is continue to battle the Heavens in my heart. I shall carve out a new path for all those like me, a path that will go against the very constitution of this world. How will I do this? I do not know. But I will! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I will upload a chapter a day on Royalroad (maybe more) however if you want more of the story at a quicker pace then go to fantasy-books.live. There are currently 110+ chapters of Path of Blood there. P.S - I started Path of Blood about a year ago so the first fifteen chapters have some problems character wise however I'm currently working with an editor to remedy these to make the story a better read. Anyway, these issues don't last long and since Pob is a story that rewards the patient, only those who've read till the latest will understand how good the story really is....I designed it to get better with every ark, surprises planned at every corner and the eventual ending of Pob will definitely not dissapoint, so stick around and give it a chance. :D
