《My Vampire (Book Three)》Chapter 5

I know everyone is trying their best to keep my mind occupied. Rebecca even let me touch her stomach when the baby kicked, it was nice but I'm still upset.

I hear Michael giggling in his mother's lap as she whispers something in his ear. They're both eyeing me and I smile when I see the small similarities between them. He has her eyes and nose but besides everything else, him and his twin brother look like miniature Marks.

Although I know it hurt Mark to leave, the pack needed him as well especially after a loss like this I know he'll want to double down on security. After I leave my mother's house I'm definitely going into town to find out who did this.

My thoughts are interrupted when both the boys jump on my lap and scream in my face. I laugh and try fighting them off, they'll be great wolves one day maybe even stronger than their father.

The front door opens and Mark walks in exhausted. He immediately goes to Crystal and hugs her tightly breathing in her scent and visibly relaxes.

"The wolves in the front said they caught something moving last night at an inhumane speed. They couldn't catch a scent but Allen said he saw a man." Mark says and Rebecca shifts uncomfortably in her seat.

Jeremy looks at her and she shrugs her shoulders trying to relax but Mark notices her discomfort.

It's getting late. I know my mother is expecting me soon but something tells me Rebecca might know something.

"Rebecca what is it?" Jeremy asks as she rubs her stomach slowly.

She takes a deep breath,"There's another side to my family. I'm not allowed to talk about what they do." She says and Jeremy grabs her hand.

"They're not your family anymore. We are. Please." I ask her and she nods her head.

"They're vampire hunters. That's what our family first was until werewolves became more dangerous. They exist. And they're terribly hard to kill. They're stronger and faster than any wolf in existence. Isaac if that's how your friends died then I'm sorry. You won't win against one." Her voice sounds so sad but I know how much it pains her to talk about her family.

I stand up to leave when I feel Mark's hand on my shoulder.

"Whatever you're thinking of doing. Don't. It's not worth it. We deal with it as a pack remember that." He says using his Alpha tone to get me to submit.

I nod my head and look at Crystal who looks at me worried.

"Thank you for everything. I have to go now. Goodnight everyone." I say and leave.

The moment I'm far enough I feel tears threatening to escape my eyes but I hold them back. God knows what my mother is going through, they were like sons to her. I hate seeing her upset, this will be so hard to her.

I knock on her door and I'm surprised to see her looking at me smiling without an ounce of sadness in her.

"Sweetheart!" She squeals and wraps her arms around my neck bringing me down to her level. She doesn't know...I have to be the one to tell her.

"Mom. There's something you have to know." I say not wanting to meet her eyes.

"Oh later sweetheart. All your guests are here and I want you to meet them all." She smiles at me and takes my hand dragging me into the living room of my childhood home.

I see 4 young woman sitting down with their mothers at their sides. Immediately I take in their scents, they're all beautiful girls really, but none of them are my mate.

"Hello ladies" I say and greet each one individually kissing their hands and nodding my head at them. I look at my mother who looks slightly dissapointed but sighs and leads us into the dining room.

"Honestly those brothers of yours have no respect. Ignoring my calls. You'd think they'd want to show up to your birthday dinner and try to find their mates as well." She says and begins to serve me. My chest aches when she mentions them. I bite my tongue instead of telling her. I can't.

I reach into the middle of the table and grab myself a glass of scotch and drink it immediately, the burn down my throat eases the pain in my chest. My mother looks dissaprovingly at me when I reach for another glass, I don't care. I need the strength to tell her.

The night carries on with all these women talking about my accomplishments over the past 4 years. And of course my mother has to include my failure to find a mate. I chuckle as I finish off my 5th glass of scotch.

"What's so funny dear?" She says and looks at the watch on her wrist. She shakes her head dissapointed.

"Why don't you try calling those brother of yours. I honestly don't know whats gotten into them." She says and I laugh even louder. She glares at me, she knows I'm drunk.

"Perhaps a pair of teeth got into them" I joke and feel my eyes filling with tears again.

"What?" She asks and I notice the way her eyes crinkle around her temples everytime she uses her angry voice.

I stir whats left of the ice in my glass and set it down on the table gently and straighten myself in my chair.

"Alpha Mark told me this morning. Aaron and Kevin were killed by a vampire last night." I say and its her turn to get teary eyed.

One of the older women gets up and puts her hands on her shoulders."Stop this your making your mother cry." She scolds me and I throw my head back and sigh deeply.

"You're lying. You and I both know vampires are a myth." She sobs and my heart breaks at the sound. I get up and start leaving the room.

"Where are you going?!" She cries out but I don't answer her. I'm fueled by the liquor in my veins and the pain in my heart, I forget Mark's warning and start running into the forest. I need it. I run until my muscles begin to burn. My friends are gone. My brothers gone. I will never forgive who did this until I have their head on a spike.

I stop running to catch my breath and look at the moon remembering my brothers. After some time I spent calming myself down I decide to walk towards the town just to see what I can find. The forest is quiet, too quiet. Almost as if something here has scared every animal into hiding. It can't be me. I should at least hear a cricket or an owl somewhere.

I take a few more steps and stop completely when she comes into view, I almost didn't see her due to the dark clothes she was wearing, it was her skin that gave her away. It looked so pale in the moonlight, almost white. For a moment I thought she was a dead, a beautiful corpse propped up against a tree. Those thoughts dissapear when she smiles at me. She shouldn't be here.

"What are you doing here? This is private land. Leave!" I yell at her.

She giggles and her smile makes her eyes shine for a moment. She's beautiful. I take a second to take in her body and I see her eyes do the same. She looks so young and fragile, if it wasn't for the mischievous smile on her face I would think she was lost. But there's a strange look in her eyes that doesn't match the rest of her. They give off a strange far away gaze even though she's looking right at me. As if she's in a million places all in one moment, there's history in those eyes.

But they don't distract me from the threat she poses, her skin is too pale to be human. And she has no scent on her at all,not even a perfume. I listen to her closely, no heartbeat.

I let my canines extend and she does the same with her fangs. That fucking bitch.

"What the fuck are you?!?" I yell although I already know the answer. I growl loudly and she hisses back.

"You killed my friends! You have no scent. No heartbeat. Thats why you left no trace." I yell at her and she laughs again.

"Say it. You know what I am then?" She smiles revealing her fangs even more.

"Vampire!" I yell and shift, all I see is red. I want to rip her apart. I want to beat her into nothing but a pulp on the ground. I lunge at her but before I even blink she vanishes into thin air. I hear a whistle behind me, she thinks it's a fucking game. She's treating me like a fucking dog. I see her on the branch of a pine tree and I jump up clawing at the bark trying to get at her leg and drag her down.

She laughs and stands up,"I must admit you're doing better than your friends. It was a real art what I did to them. Seeing the life leave their eyes." She smiles. That's it. There's no way I'm letting this bitch go. My wolf is howling for her blood and her screams.

She laughs and I can tell she's getting ready to jump, but a loud bang goes off in the forest that gets both of our attention. I smell the air trying to find the source when I hear her scream above me and land on the ground hard. She begins to squirm crazily trying to get free of the net wrapped around her.

She stops when I growl at her and I see her eyes widen in panic.

"Great warriors my ass. Your fucking pack has to use a net to catch their prey. How pathetic." She spits at me and her words stop me immediately. My pack would never use a net. Who did this? I shift back immediately not caring I'm exposing myself to her.

I stand and look at the direction where the net came from and smell the air, 3 men coming this way. Before I can even react to their presence, I grunt as I feel the stab of the needles hit my chest 5 times. My legs crumble beneath me and my head begins to swim before I close my eyes and fade into darkness.
