She didn't know how it happened. The last thing she wanted was to be squished in between Bella and Jacob in Bella's truck.

Bella had called her last minute and practically begged Eleanor to hang out with her and Jacob. At the time, it didn't seem like an awful idea. Now that she was with them, she wished she was back at home in her bed.

At least they were going to a party with the rest of the pack. Eleanor was happy to be seeing them again.

As soon as they arrived at the Reservation, Eleanor pushed Jacob out, and ran over to Emily and Sam. Sam's imprint pulled Eleanor into a hug, "it's been so long! How are you?"

"Better now that I'm out of that truck," she joked.

Emily and Sam just chuckled. The rest of the pack gathered around Eleanor, welcoming her to the cookout.

"You know we're talking about tribe legends," Paul told her, "you and Bella are the first outsiders to hear about them."

Eleanor suddenly felt uncomfortable being there. It wasn't her place to learn about the tribe legends- she wasn't a part of it.

"Maybe I should go, then."

"No, you're fine. Paul's just being a jerk." Embry joked, and wrapped his arm around El's shoulders. "Let's go sit down."

Eleanor followed Quil and Embry over to a small log and sat in between them. Billy sat next to Sam and Emily in his wheelchair. His eyes skimmed over Eleanor and Bella, causing Eleanor to grow nervous. She shouldn't have been there.

"The Quileutes have been a small tribe since the beginning," Billy began, "but we've always had magic in our blood. We were great spirit warriors. Shape shifters that transform into the powerful wolf."

His eyes were focused on the fire. He seemed to be watching the story play out in his head.

"This enabled us to scare off our enemies and protect our tribe. One day, our warriors came across a creature," his eyes snapped up to Eleanor's. She tensed up, holding her breath until he continued again, "it looked like a man, but it was hard as stone and cold as ice."

He moved his eyes to Bella, and Eleanor's shoulders sagged in relief, "our warrior's sharp teeth finally tore it apart, but only fire would completely destroy it. They lived in fear, for the Cold One was not alone. And they were right."

Billy looked towards Jacob, then moved around the rest of the pack, "she took her vengeance out on the village. Our elder chief, Taha Aki, was the only spirit warrior left to save our tribe after his son was killed. Taha Aki's Third Wife could see that he would lose."

"The Third Wife was no special being. She had no magical powers or abilities except one, courage," he looked back at Eleanor for a moment, "the Third Wife's sacrifice distracted the Cold Woman long enough for Taka Aki to destroy her. She saved the tribe."

Billy sighed, "over time, our enemies have disappeared. But one remains, the Cold Ones. Our magic awakens when they are near. And we sense it now. We feel the threat in our blood. Something terrible is coming, and we must be ready for it. All of us."

Eleanor gulped, and looked away from Billy to lock eyes with Bella. Something was coming.

"Seattle is in a state of terror. Police are baffled by the escalating murders and disappearances. Theories range from a vicious new gang to a wildly active serial killer. Reporting live, Dawn Chubai, CNN."

The television screen turned black, and Carlisle set the remote back down on the table, "it's getting worse. We're going to have to do something."

Eleanor's head snapped over to Jasper, "it takes more than one of our kind to cause the damage they are reporting. Quite a few more. They're undisciplined, conspicuous. It's Newborns."

"What?" Eleanor chuckled, "like new vampires?"

"It's in their first few months after the change. That's when we're at our most uncontrollable. Vicious, insane with thirst," Jasper explained.

"Something to look forward to," Emmett laughed. Eleanor and Carlisle threw him dirty looks.

"No one has trained these Newborns, but this isn't random," he ignored Emmett.

"They're creating an army," Edward said in shock.

"Oh, now we're definitely going to Seattle!"

"An army of vampires?" Eleanor asked, giving Emmett an incredulous look. He would be the one to want to fight an army of Newborns.

"And they've been created to fight someone," Carlisle said, "we're the only clan close to Seattle."

"Regardless of who they are, we need to put a stop to them. If we don't the Volturi will. I'm surprised they let it go on this long," Esme said.

"Maybe they're behind it," Edward spoke, "in Italy I read Aro's mind. He wants me, Alice and Eleanor to join him. He knows we'd never join him as long as our family is alive. An army could solve that for him."

Worry grew in the pit of Eleanor's stomach, but she only squeezed Carlisle's hand tighter.

"Are you coming up tonight?" Eleanor asked Carlisle as he pulled up in front of her house.

Her mate nodded, "if you still want me to help you study."

Eleanor smiled, before turning to look at the door. She remembered telling her mum that she'd introduce her to her boyfriend. El turned back to Carlisle, "do you want to meet my mom?"

"Now?" Carlisle raised an eyebrow.

She nodded, "yeah, come on."

Eleanor walked up to her house, and opened the door, "mom?"

Carlisle appeared behind her, "are you sure this is a good idea?"

"Shh," she hushed him as Mrs. Stanley came to the front door.

"What's up Ellie?" She asked, glancing at Dr. Cullen who stood behind her daughter, "why's Doctor Cullen here?"

"Well, um-" she stopped her sentence short when she saw Jessica walk down the stairs. Her twin's eyes widened in shock.

"You know how you said you wanted to meet my boyfriend?"

"Yeah, but that doesn't explain why- oh. Oh!" Mrs. Stanley looked between the two for a moment in shock, her mouth open wide. She let out a quiet breath. "Okay."

Eleanor nodded, watching her mother in case she began to freak out. "Okay, now that we got that out of the way, he's going to go."

Mrs. Stanley seemed to break out of her trance and held out a hand to the doctor with a tight smile. "Nice to see you, Doctor Cullen."

"You too, Mrs. Stanley." He smiled at her before he looked up at Jessica on the stairs. "Nice seeing you too, Jess."

Jessica blushed. "You too, Doctor Cullen."

"See you, El." Her boyfriend squeezed her shoulder before he walked out the front door.

Eleanor turned back to her mom, who still looked shocked. Her eyes focused on her daughter. "Eleanor? When? He's way older than you!"

"Just recently." Eleanor told her, trying to relax her again. "But he makes me happy, really. You know I wouldn't be with him if he didn't."

Mrs. Stanley sighed again, shaking her head as she thought. "Okay. I trust you're making the right decision, Eleanor."

Eleanor nodded. "Thank you."

"Now go study or something." Her mom said, turning to Jess as well. "Both of you."

The twins listened to their mother and walked to their rooms together. Jess began to laugh once they reached the top of the stairs. "That was awesome!"

"I thought she was going to explode." Eleanor giggled with her sister. "But she did say she wanted to meet him."

"She just needs a few days to process it." Jess said as she wiped her eyes. "But it'll be fine. Night, El."

Eleanor told her goodnight before she turned to enter her room. Carlisle was on her bed, reading through one of her history books. She smiled at him as she plopped on the bed next to Carlisle. "Hey Ellie."

"Shut up," she laughed, "Mom used to call my that all the time. Guess she's bringing it back."

He chuckled. "Well that went better than I thought it would."

"Yeah, it could have been worse." She agreed with a sigh.

Eleanor leaned down to grab her backpack and pulled out her notebook for finals before opening it to the math section. Carlisle watched her for a moment, before pulling Eleanor towards him.

He attached his lips to her jaw, laying kisses on her face until he reached her lips. She moved her lips against his briefly, before pulling away. "Stop. I've got to study."

"Come on. Just take a short break." He tried pulling her back.

"I haven't even started!" She giggled. "Exams are in two days."

"You can always study tomorrow." Carlisle said.

"Doctor Cullen." She tsked, grinning over at him. "Distracting me from studying."

"Fine." He chuckled, "Give me a paper so I can help."

Eleanor handed him a piece of paper from her notes, and shifted so she laid on her stomach. Carlisle leaned back against the headboard, and opened his mouth to read the first question.

Eleanor groaned. She felt as if all the information from the past year had left her mind, and it was making Carlisle's offer very tempting. "Forget this, I'll study later."

She adjusted herself, moving to where she was straddling Carlisle's hips. She shot him a shy smile, before leaning down and connecting their lips in a long kiss.
