《Friends Don't》Chapter Five

The weekend had come and gone and it was time for classes, once again. After Tyler and I were interrupted he drove me back to my car and I headed to my dorm while he went home.

The next day we talked throughout the day and that night I went to his house. His roommates were gone and we made dinner and sat around talking. We started up a conversation about our almost hook up and laughed at the thought of almost being caught. Tyler's head was still sore from slamming it against the seat, and I felt awful knowing it was my fault. But then the laughing died down and I started thinking about the heated moments and I guess he did, too.

It wasn't long before we were kissing on the couch. Then he picked me up and carried me up the stairs to his room. This time we weren't interrupted.

Now, I was headed to class still wishing for the cold weather to leave, but I just knew it was going to get worse.

I slid into the chair beside Lana, not bothering to pretend I didn't see them this time, because would it really work a second time? Not like it did the first time, though.

Derek and Grayson were sat talking to each other, barely acknowledging me but I didn't care.

"So, I'm assuming since we didn't have a study night your plans went well?" she asked, and that was when all of a sudden it seemed that Derek and Grayson didn't find their own conversation as appealing anymore and focused on ours.

"It was good."

"Just good?" She furrowed her brows. "That's it?"

"Well, it didn't go exactly as planned. We almost got caught before anything really good happened."

Lana laughed. "Well, I didn't hear from you all weekend so something must have happened."

"I studied."

She raised an eyebrow. I never knew how she did that. I could never seem to get the other to stay down. "Studied? Studied what? Because the study night we were supposed to have was for me, because you're smart and don't have to study," she said.

"I still study," I told her, which was true. I may be pretty smart and didn't need much studying, but I still went over the work anyway. "Yesterday I studied for school, and the day before I studied, as well."

Her eyebrow raised even further. "Go on."

I bit my bottom lip. "I studied his eyes, his mouth, oh man that mouth, his chest, his abs-"

"Okay, you're making it further down his body than I want to hear," Derek said cutting me off.

Lana slapped his arm. "I want to hear." Her grin was wide.

"Is that what you girls do? Tell every detail about the guys you're with?" Derek questioned us.

I nodded. "She's told me everything about you. I almost didn't believe her until I saw the picture, but damn," I told him.

His eyes widened. "Wait what?" He looked between us both.

I started laughing at how shocked and almost embarrassed he looked. "I'm kidding," I paused and my smile faded as I said, "about the picture."

"So, who is this guy, anyway?" Lana asked me, ignoring Derek's embarrassment. It's not like guys didn't talk about the girls they've been with. Well, maybe not in front of girls, but still.

I wanted to tell her but I wasn't sure if I wanted to let Derek and Grayson know. Tyler was their friend, after all. When I didn't say anything Lana spoke up, "It's Tyler isn't it?"

"What?" Grayson spoke for the first time.

"Maybe," I told her ignoring him.

She rolled her eyes. "I know your maybes, and that maybe was a yes." She smiled.

"Don't get too excited," I told her causing her smile to fall. "It didn't mean anything."

"What do you mean it didn't mean anything?" she asked.

The lecture began and the voices in the room became silent. Lana was still whispering at me but I shushed her and focused on the lecture. Lana finally gave up and stared straight ahead.

After class we were headed outside. I was hoping all talk of the subject would be done, but I knew I was hoping for too much. Lana would never stop until I told her.

"What do you mean it didn't mean anything?" She was walking close beside me keeping up with my fast pace.

Derek and Grayson lingered behind us. Either they didn't care about knowing or they just didn't want to put in the effort to keep up with our walk.

"I mean it didn't mean anything, Lana."

"I know what that means, but what does that mean?" She pressured on for me to explain.

I had quickened my pace a bit but came to a quick stop and she slammed into my back. I turned around to face her. "It simply means that we hooked up but there's nothing else. No feelings involved. No relationship in the future." I started walking again.

"But why?" She was still keeping up with me.

We had made it back to our dorm building, now. We walked inside and up the flight of stairs. Lana's was on the third floor but she stopped at mine. Derek and Grayson were standing there seeming a bit out of place. Maybe they were wondering if they should even be here involved in our conversation without actually being involved.

"He still has feelings for his ex." I shrugged. "It's not a big deal. It was fun and that's all."

"Are you not upset?" she asked, concern etched on her face.

"Why would I be?" My brows pulled together. "I barely know him." That was the truth. I did barely know him and it didn't bother me. Sure maybe the first night overlooking the city we got carried away in the heat of the moment, but the next night we agreed it was nothing more than a night of fun, and I was fine with that. He was upset over his girlfriend ending things with him and I hadn't had sex in three months, but I wasn't looking for a relationship. So yeah, maybe it wasn't the best decision we made, but we made it and had a good time.

"You can go to your room now. I'm not going to fall to pieces if you leave." I laughed. She was still looking at me like I was some fragile girl who just had her heart broken.

"Promise?" she asked.

"Yes." I rolled my eyes at her, but I knew she just cared. "It really didn't mean anything. I wouldn't lie to you."

"Okay." Her concerned look left her face. "Well, since we're talking about my room," she began but stopped.

"What?" I asked her after seconds too long of silence.

"I was hoping I could move in with you."

"What?" My eyes widened. "Why?"

"My roommate creeps me out."

"I'm sure she's not that bad," I told her.

"She talks to herself, El." Her expression changed; she looked scared.

"You talk to yourself sometimes."

"No, I mean really talks to herself. Like she has conversations to the air or something."

Grayson and Derek laughed behind her, the first noise they'd made since we'd left class. She jerked her head back staring them down. "It's not funny. I'm being serious."

They tried to bite back their laughs. "I'm sure you are, babe, but it is funny," Derek told her wrapping his arms around her waist from behind.

Lana turned back to me. "Please let me move in with you."

"Doesn't the school have to agree with that or something?"

"I'll just secretly move out and not let them find out. They'd probably just tell me to get over it."

"Maybe you should," I told her, not trying to be rude, but she was extremely freaked out and it didn't seem like this girl could be that whacked out.

She shook her head. "Please. I'm your best friend."

"Stop doing that."

"Doing what?"

"Pulling the best friend card." I rolled my eyes. "You're about to have to find a new best friend."

"That's not funny," she said, but I knew deep down she knew I didn't mean it. We'd been friends way too long .

"Hey," I began as my eyes lit up. "Maybe your two roommates will take you as their new best friend."

Her eyes widened. "Shut the fuck up."

"Damn, Lana. You never have a potty mouth," I said surprised.

"I guess I've been your friend too long."

Just then a girl started coming down the stairs and the hallway in our direction. She was mumbling something to herself.

Lana's eyes grew wider than I'd ever seen before. "That's her," she whispered to us.

"Okay, you can move in with me," I told her not able to tear my gaze from this crazy girl headed our way.

I was helping Lana pack up her stuff so she could move in with me. Her roommate, who I'd found out was named Farah, was sitting on her bed staring off into who knows where talking to herself.

She was having a full blown conversation with herself, but it was just mumbling. I really felt it had to be some kind of medical condition that she needed to get treated right away.

"Farah, there's no one there," I said to her but she ignored me.

"Shut up," Lana whispered whacking my arm with full force.

"Ow," I said hitting her back. "I'm genuinely concerned here."

"Let's just go," Lana said as she zipped her bag.

We headed out of the room and down the flight of stairs to my floor. Derek and Grayson were already in my room. They had moved Lana's bed.

'Is that everything?" Derek asked her.

"Yes, thankfully," she said tossing her bag onto the bed. "Ellie's trying to get us killed."

My head shot at her. "What?" I tossed two of her bags on her bed. "I told you I'm concerned about this chick. That can't be normal."

Just then there was a knock on my door. We all turned to see who it was. "Farah, hey," I said.

She ignored me. "Lana, why did you leave?"

Lana was sitting on her bed. She looked a little freaked out but like she was trying to hide it. "Oh, Ellie just asked me to move in with her. We've been best friends for years and she missed me."

"I know you, probably, think something is wrong with me. There's not. My parents have had me tested millions of times. I just get lonely sometimes."

I was doing really well at keeping a straight face instead of freaking the hell out like I wanted to. So, there is nothing medically wrong with her, she just has imaginary friends because she's lonely.

"Well, I'm sure you'll find a new roommate soon," I told her.

"Maybe." Then her eyes landed on Derek and Grayson. "Who are they?" Her eyes lit up just at the sight of them.

"This is my boyfriend," Lana said grabbing Derek's arm and pulling him towards her. "Derek."

"It's nice to meet you," he said.

"And who is this?" Her attention was on Grayson, now. Maybe because Derek was taken, I don't know. "Is this your boyfriend, Ellie?"

I laughed. "No."

"Really?" A smile crept across Farah's face and she started walking into the room at him.

"Yes, I am," he said grabbing my arm and pulling me into him wrapping his arm around my waist. 'We're in love."

Farah's smile left her face and she backed out of the room. "Oh, well it was nice to meet you." Her head dropped and she left.

I headed for the door and closed it, then turned to Grayson. "We're in love?"

"You hate me so much that you were going to throw me into the lion's den?" he questioned me, appalled.

The corner of my mouth curved up. "I might have saved you, eventually."
