《Gangsta//Joker》You have me hooked..

Gasping i sit up to find myself in bed back at my one bedroom apartment down the street from arkham. I go to run my fingers through my hair when something hard hits my head making a rattling sound and i pull back seeing a orange pill bottle the last thing i heald before blacking out in the club. How the hell did i even get home? Who brought me home? The only person who knew where i lived was bruce and maybe alfred. I go to reach for my clutch to dig out my phone but its not near me, long forgotten about the pill bottle i swing my legs over the side of the bed and nearly stumble on my heels.
It was right before the sun had risen so it was pretty dark as i glided through my apartment to the kitchen. I was seriously craving hot wings and french fries but i know i didnt have any and it was way to early to order so i settled on a few cookies and a bottle of water. When i looked up i noticed my purse from last night on the counter and quickly checked its contents to see everything was still there. Before i could even think about what happened my phone rung and i quickly answered.
"Ms.lawton its me your director, and i was wondering if you could come in a hour early so we could discuss some of your patients and a few updates" she says sharply before hanging up not even giving me time to answer and i glare at the phone as if it was her. She phrased it as i question but i knew it was a demand.
I smile at the people ive become well aquainted with as i walk down the halls of arkham, as they wave back some curious as to why im there so early. There was a weird atmosphere today and everyone seemed on edge, could it be a new patient? Shrugging of the idea im a few feet from the directors office when i hear the directors voice.
"You think i should what?" She scoffs loudly and from the tone in her voice baffled. I slip off my heels swoop down to scoop them up and inch closer silently.
"Think about it helane, he's going to be himself which is enough to scare anyone away, if she sees how horribly bad, conniving and manipulative-" bruce's voice begins but its cut off by a slam on what im guessing is the desk. What was bruce doing here anyway?

"What if he only manipulates her?!" She snaps but bruce groans. I wonder who they were talking about.
"He left her for dead just like harley, hasnt looked for neither one of them i dont think hes looking to rekindle any friendship or whatever they have, she doesnt even remember him. Even if its just one session just enough for him to scare her away and keep her on the right track" he says sternly, with a hidden begging tone. "I know it will work you have to trust this" bruce adds and she chuckles dryly.
"Fine but if it back fires bruce, your names all over it" she says before i hear shuffling and i slip my shoes back on clicking it against the floor to make it seem i had just walked up before walking in.
"Goodmorning" i smile brightly hiding my confusion as i sit in the seat next to bruce giving him a small nod. The director smiles back tightly as she pulls out a few files that i realized to be my patients and notes from their session. "Hey those are private! What happened to patient confidentiality?" I asked flabergasted at the fact she even went through my office.
She glances up at me with a sharp look but a light smirk. "That only applies to people who arent your boss" she says, stating her authority over me, and id be lying if i said i didnt feel a bit belittled. She always had to make it known she had the most power.
"My patients trust me to keep things between me and them, that nobody will see their secrets but me" i say slightly upset i couldnt keep the promise and she smiles closing the files.
"Dedication, youre very dedicated to your code of ethics and helping these patients and in the month you've worked here many of them made so much progress." She admitts pushing her glasses up to her hair. Its reading glasses not sunglasses, thats so out of style.
"Yeah thats sorta my job, is it not?" I ask trying to mask the rude tone and bitterness in my voice with fake confusion but it still sounds just as rude and i have no regrets.
"Yeah and you do a damn good job" she replies back with a smirk and im blown black. Wasnt she just belittling me...and now im being complimented? Am i missing something?

"Thats a compliment" bruce finally pitches in reminding us of his pressence and i send him a small glare ignoring how adoreable he looked with the blue knit sweater i picked out for him. I give a small thanks before she continues.
"Theres a new patient i want you to take his case" she demands giving me his file but i slide it back to her receiving a questioning arched eyebrow.
"I thought new patients were given by seniority, and if they have to many patients it goes to next in line. I know theres a long list before it gets to me. Besides im filled with patients already-" i start when the file is pushed over to me.
"Im giving you this patient and temporarily suspending your other patients" she snaps annoyed probably not use to being defied. "-take it or leave it" she says and i know she didnt mean it as a question but thats how i was going to take it.I stand up and straighten my white coat giving her a small innocent smile.
"Leave it" i shrug taking my old files and walking out of her office seeing the halls stranded. What the hell was going on? Walking to the main level were most of the patients are being kept a few of the workers roughly bump into me as they try to exit. I notice it was complete chaos, some patients were loose, employees were running around either trying to escape or help round up the patients and security officers trying to neutralize the situation. I get a look of pity from a few people once they notice me and before i have time to question it im bumped into harshly again from the back, making me fall knees first onto the floor and i gasp as my files fly all over. Just great. I rush to put the right papers in a file when someone bends down to help me.
"What the hell do you think youre doing walking freely without any security guard?" Officer james panicks picking up the papers and helping me up after i slide them into the manilla folders. Why was he so panicky?
"What the hells going on?" I ask confused and fed up. Nothing was making sense.
"A new patient we got today has everyone on edge...hes a pretty intense guy. Stabbed 4 officers with a playing card and killed his psychiatrist with a pencil" he tells me and i look up at his calm face.
"Everybody seem terrified...everyone except you"i realize and he nods pulling me further away so i dont get ran into again.
"There was 5 guards escorting him in ashton...he only killed 4. I was the 5th guard. He turned to me and read my name badge and gave me this crazy smile. He told me he wouldnt kill me because i helped one of his friends" he admitts but before he can continue telling me what happened after that a loud cackle rings through out the halls making everyone freeze in fear except me, whos trying to get a glympse of whats going on when i hear the sound of tazers and a thud.
"Whos that?" I ask curiously, i wasnt horrified like everyone else. I mean when you signed up to work here what did you expect? 12 year olds with daddy issues?
"He calls himself " he says but i laugh lightly unable to hold it in. A clown? A clown?! These people were terrified of a circus act.
"Wait so everyone's afraid of a man who calls himself-" i burst into laughs again before walking away from these jokes of psychiatrist. The amount of respect i had was now dwindling by the second. Walking back down to the directors office i notice her and bruce are still talking when this time i dont stop to listen i waltz right in.
"Ill take it" i say picking up the file from her desk that had a beware sign on it. Theres no way any man could be as bad as they're making it seem. I roll my eyes at how dramatic they are before heading to my office when im stopped by officer james.
"Hey at 12:30 i need a session set up" i tell him holding the file at my side when he takes out a note pad and begins writing.
"Sure for what patient?" He ask and i hold up the file making his pencil snap in his hand once his eyes fall on it.

I'm Always Talking to Myself
My name is Zach. I’m a typical bland featureless protagonist type. The kind of guy who has purposefully few defining characteristics so that people can project whatever they want on me. Like Luke from Star Wars or what’s her name from Twilight. Most main characters are like me. Kind of flavorless blank slates because we all secretly doubt that we’re Harrison Ford, but pretty much anyone could be Mitt Romney. Yep. Yes indeed, I do spend basically my entire life running an internal dialog to no one. Usually I’m imagining that there are people listening. Like maybe philosophers from Ancient Greece, or researchers from another planet who act suspiciously like the characters from that Instagram comic with the aliens. Stupid Instagram comedians stealing my internal monologue and turning into a wildly successful enterprise which I would imagine has a vibrant merch dropshipping arm and hundreds of thousands of daily dopamine hits for loyal followers. I basically spend all of my time explaining random things to imaginary people (and aliens, and animals, and household items which have inexplicably gained sentience and frankly have some concerns about this whole existence thing). Honestly, it’s both highly entertaining to me, in that it makes me think about why we humans do all of the bizarre things that we do, but also horrifically exhausting and kind of makes you feel like you’re either, worst cast, losing your grip on reality, or best case, becoming Abed from Community. Anyway, I’m sure that I have some distinguishing characteristics, but, in the interest of hypnotic suggestion I’m choosing to omit them until I’m pretty sure that you have subconsciously come to identify with me, or until I feel like it. (By the way, in case I forgot to mention it, a higher power called Aww Thor or something told me to say that this is a slice-of-life comedy adventure and that it's set in a fantasy world with isekai and LitRPG elements.)
