When you here the word spring, what do you think about? Probably flowers, trees, nature, etc. It's not the same for me. When I think of spring I think of sadness, devastation and death.
It was the first day of spring. I was dressed in a cute flowery top I bought specially for this day. I love spring. The flowers, the nature, the weather, everything is perfect.
I decided to go to the park. As I was looking for a place to sit I noticed a super cute boy sitting on a bench. I decided to try my luck and went up to him.
"Hi can I sit here?" I asked.
He looked at me. And I almost got lost in those eyes. They were so green that they reminded me of the woods. "Sure." He said.
I sat down leaving some space between us. He scooted closer to me. "I am Xavier. And you are?" He asked.
"I am Rose. Nice to meet you." I said.
"Rose, such a pretty name just like you." He said. 'He is flirting me' I thought blushing.
"Thank you."
"Do you have a boyfriend?" He asked.
"No, do you?" I asked.
"No I don't have a boyfriend." He said.
"No, no, that's not what I meant." I said embarassed.
He laughed. "I know. I was joking. I don't have a girlfriend."
"That's good." I said.
"Would you like to have coffee with me?" He asked.
And just like that we started dating. It was amazing. We both had so much in common. We went on a lot of dates. It escalated quite quickly.
Soon we met each other's parents. And we moved in together. Everything was just perfect.
Until one day, Xavier went to the hospital. He was having a lot of headaches lately. So I told him to go to a doctor. When he returned he looked upset. He was told to run some tests. They were not sure what's wrong.

Three weeks later, he was diagnosed with glioblastoma multiform. It was as if everything shattered around us. We were told not to lose hope but we all knew that it was not treatable. The death rate was 95 percent.
Still for each other we both smiled as if everything was going to be alright. The treatments went on and on without stopping. We tried all kind of medicines, therapy, radiation but his condition only worsened.
One day, he woke up telling me the headache was worse than usual. It worried me I told him to go to the hospital. They told us there was nothing wrong. We came back home. We watched television. Everything seemed normal. He told me he was tired and going to take a nap. He never woke up.
Now whenever I think of spring I think of the day I first met him and everything that happened after. He was the love of my life. The kind of love that only happens once. I don't think I will ever forget him. And every first day of spring it reminds me of the happiness and the love I felt and the heartbreak that followed suit.
