*Wendy Darlings POV *

"...And when he rounded the corner, a glorious sight met his eyes!" I read.

"What was it?" Michael asked.

"Piles of gold and jewels, as far as the eye could see! And they were all just for him!" I finished.

I was reading a wonderful book to John and Michael in the nursery with Nana at our feet. It was a lot more fun than being downstairs talking with father's friends from the bank.

"Wendy? Are you up here darling?" I heard mother call.

"I'm in here mother." I called, running into the hallway.

"Oh there you are. I'm very sorry to break up your game but your father would like you to come downstairs and practice your sewing." She said, straightening out my dress.

"Isn't it usually the mothers who do that?" I asked.

"Yes I'm sure it is but your father said it's time you started to show up to parties and try to interact with the guests there." She answered.

"Even if I'm just sewing?" I asked, frowning slightly.

"Even if it's just sewing. But you know that your father doesn't want you to speak any way. Just sit down and do your sewing with me." She said standing up and taking my hand.

"Mother?"

"Yes dear?"

"Do you agree with father that children should be seen and not heard? Or that woman must stay sitting or following their husbands around? Will I have to do that when I'm an adult?" I asked, looking up at her.

"Well I don't really agree with the first two questions. I think children should be allowed to have fun and make noise when they are young. You only get one childhood. And woman should be able to voice their opinions if they wish. And I wouldn't really like you to have to act like that when you're grown up. However, your father has other ideas for you." She said sadly.

"When we went to Neverland, children were always allowed to have fun. We could play all day if you wanted." I said as we started to walk down stairs.

"Darling, it's been over a year since you went to Neverland and yet you still like to go on about it."

"I love Neverland. And even if father said it was a dream, I know it's real." I said defiantly.

"Alright well hush now. Your father doesn't really like talking about Neverland. Keep quiet." Mother said as we entered the sitting room where father and a few of his friends were sitting.

"Ah. There's Wendy. I was wondering when she was going to show up. What took you so long." Father said, as we walked in.

Mother just smiled and picked up her sewing before sitting down. I followed suite and started sewing a rose on the pillow I had made a while ago.

Father kept talking and laughing with his friends but I soon started to zone out. His conversations were often quite boring. All about bills and the bank and things.

Mother knew that I hated these little parties. I always had to come downstairs and do something silly. Like sewing. Completely pointless and yet I still had to do it. And why?

Because father wanted one of the people at the party to decide, hm she's a very pretty little girl. And she can sew. She would make a perfect little wife for my oldest son.

Father was already getting letters asking for an arranged marriage from many wealthy men and I had only started coming to parties when I turned fifteen a few months ago.

At last people began to leave and mother asked me to go upstairs and put John and Michael to bed. I ran up the stairs and into our bedroom.

"Wendy! At last it's been ages. How was the party?" John asked. John was only twelve but he was already turning into quite the little gentleman.

"I'm not going to lie Michael. It was incredibly boring to say the least." I said sitting on one of the beds. Nana walked in and sat at my feet.

"Can we keep playing our game now?" John asked picking up his teddy bear.

"No. We have to go to bed now. Sorry. Maybe we can play it tomorrow." I said standing up and pulling back the covers on his bed.

"Come on quick. Before father comes in to check on us." I said as Michael climbed into his own bed.

I was just getting into my own bed when I heard mother and father coming up the stairs. Father was complaining about something and mother was just nodding in agreement as usual.

They walked into our room and mother walked over and gave me a hug.

"Good night Wendy." She said.

"Goodnight mother."

Mother walked over to John and gave him a hug too. I saw father approach me and braced myself for one of his long speeches.

"Wendy. I would like to thank you for behaving so well at my party this evening. You sat quietly in the corner like a proper house wife would do. Lord Grafton asked me about an arranged marriage between you and his oldest son. Of course I said I would think about as this was your third offer this month. We must choose who you one day marry very carefully you know." He said going into his "business mode" as he always did when he was discussing my marriage.

"Alright dear. Let's let them sleep now. They are very tired." Mother said, saving me from huge rants about the other people who had asked to marry me.

"Yes alright. Well, I'm going to bed. Close that window Mary before you join me." He said, before walking out of the room.

"Mother can we leave the window open please?" I asked politely.

"I'm afraid not dear. Your father doesn't like it being open after the last time you ran away." She said, going over to close it.

"Oh, but mother. We didn't run away. We went to Neverland. What if Peter Pan comes to take us back? He won't be able to get inside." John said.

"I'm sorry darling, but not this time. Maybe you can leave it open another night. You don't want to get into trouble with father." She replied walking over to the door.

"Goodnight my darlings. Don't fly away in your dreams." She said, turning off the light.

I turned onto my side and watched the window. A light snow was falling out side. Only a year and a bit ago Peter Pan had come and taken us to Neverland. I wanted to go back so much. Peter said he would come back for us but he hadn't come yet.

I'm sure he was just doing something incredibly important I thought as I started to drift off to sleep.

I was awakened to the sound of a squeaky handle being turned.

It was still dark outside and I could hear father's voice coming from down the hall. At first I thought someone was opening the bedroom door, but that was still shut tightly.

I looked up and saw a shadow outside the window. I noticed that the sound was coming from the bolt on the window. Someone was trying to come into our room.

I quickly crept out of bed and shook Michael until he was awake.

"Michael! Quickly. There's someone outside on the window. Go wake up John." I whispered when he was finally awake.

He ran over to John and started waking him up.

Suddenly the windows flew open and the person stepped in. It wasn't Peter like I thought it would be.

It was a girl.
