《Sinbad: High King of the Seas》Chapter 23: "Ray of Hope!"

"How did the talks go with King Rashid?" A guy asks as soon as Jafar returns.
"Were you able to figure out a way to get Mr. Sinbad and Miss Annalise back?" A lady asks.
"What should we do?!" Another guy asks.
"Please tell us! Mr. Jafar!" People say.
"Please gather everyone here." Jafar says and everyone gathers up.
"What's going on, Jafar? You're acting strangely." Hinahoho says.
"Oh, he's going to speak." Vittel says.
"There's something I must tell everyone. I was unable to get any sort of clear advice from King Rashid." Jafar says.
"But King Rashid seemed like someone we could count on. What can we do on our own?" People wonder, "There's nothing left to do but give up..."
"Please calm down!" Jafar yells, "It's true that we don't currently have a way out of this situation. It's natural that you feel that we've run out of options... but please wait! Before you give up... Please think back on all the things we've suffered through. We faced unjust debts and bankruptcy... our leaders were taken from us... We've been driven into a corner... We lost. No..." Jafar takes a serious look on his face.
"Thanks to our leaders' sacrifice, our company survived through all of this unharmed! Even now, we continue with our business as usual! But as we carry on peacefully... Sin and Annalise are spending their time as slaves! I can't just overlooks such horrible injustice! If we don't have a plan, we should mimic them! We can retaliate by using the same methods that they used!" Jafar yells.
"Retaliate using the same methods? Are you saying that we should drive their company to bankruptcy?" Hinahoho asks.
"Yes." Jafar says.
"You're going to trick the Mariadel company? We don't have the ability to do something like that!" A guy says.
"I know... and if we fail, there won't be a way out of it this time... that's the risk we'll have to take." Jafar says, "It's wrong of us to risk the company that our leaders fought to protect for the sake of the sake of helping those leaders... but... a Sindria Trading Company without Sin and Annalise just isn't the same!"
"A company without those two isn't really our company. The ones who gave a bandit like me an honest job was those two..." A guy says.
"I also don't think things are right without them! Without our leader, everything seems meaningless!" A girl says.
"We've already gone bankrupt once. What's left to be afraid of?! I refuse to stay defeated forever! Our feelings haven't changed from the very beginning! Let's save the heads of our company!" Everyone says and Jafar sniffles.
"Jafar." Rurumu says and he looks down at her. The two smile at him and nod and Jafar returns the smile. Planning begins in the records room. Jafar goes through everything trying to find something believable.
"All right... Now we have to figure out a concrete plan for how to deceive them and force them into Bankruptcy." Vittel says, "First, the assets of the Mariadel Company make it one of the most prominent companies in all of Reim. Our company isn't capable of a transaction on a scale large enough to put those assets at risk."

"However, if we could find a way to Interfere with the commodity that brings in the majority profits, their 'slaves' then we just might have a chance." Jafar says.
"But slaves are expensive, and the market is restricted. There's no way we can just show up and expect to take part in it." Vittel says.
"We can't deal with slave trafficking!" Hinahoho says, "Annalise would kill us! Especially when she used to be one!"
"The slave market isn't something we specialize in. Even if we tried to make that sort of deal, the other party would know we were lying." Rurumu says.
"There's not really much for us to do, huh?" Mytras says.
"Well, we are diplomats, after all." The girl from Artemyra says.
"That's right! Plus, they're probably on the lookout for some sort of retaliation from us... we'd be definitely found out!" Hinahoho says.
"Are we... out of options?" Rurumu asks.
"If only Annalise and Sinbad were here at a time like this..." Vittel says.
"VITTEL!" Jafar says.
"But isn't that true?! It's because we had the trust of Sinbad the Dungeon Conqueror that we were able to do all our business up until now and gain our customers' trust! The whole reason Sindria Trading company was able to grow because they were here!" Vittel explains.
'Trust...' Jafar's thoughts say, 'That's right... even without taking a risk... If we have that, we can get to the heart of our opponent... That's right... That's what he meant!' Jafar gasps as he figures it out.
"Hmm?" Rurumu asks.
"Everyone! I've come up with a plan!" Jafar says.
Sinbad messes up and Annalise just stares at him.
"Don't make more work for me, Sinbad! You good-for-nothing! At least Annalise listens better than you!" Fatima says, "That's enough. Take this!" He gives Sinbad a chain.
"Take those slaves to the back! You can at least do that much. If any of them acts strangely report back to me." Fatima says, "Annalise, come with me." Annalise gets to work on what Fatima has her do. She looks over when Sinbad returns with a small coughing child.
"A child?" Fatima asks, "She's got a fever, huh? I didn't notice because you were distracting me from my work."
"I think she needs treatment, sir." Annalise whispers and Sinbad looks over at her but doesn't say anything.
"Treatment? What are you saying? That's—" Fatima says.
"Is work going smoothly for you three?" Maader asks walking towards them.
"Lady Maader! Yes, everything's going well!" Fatima says getting happy.
"I'm glad." Maader says, "Hmm? Why is that child here?"
"Well, Sinbad brought her here. He said that she's got a fever and then Annalise suggested that we should treat her." Fatima says.
"Hmph? They did?" Maader asks and Annalise looks down. Sinbad grows scared instantly as this was the first action he'd taken since he closed off his heart. Even though he tried to forget things that happened, they caused his heart to tremble. He knew that if he made another mistake, he knew that he and Annalise would get punished again.

"Well... You kept an eye on the slaves around you. That's a job for a slave leader. How wonder. That's just like my children." Maader says as she pulls Sinbad and Annalise into hugs. Annalise didn't react while Sinbad began to cry.
"Fatima, take care of this child." Maader says.
"Yes, Lady Maader." Fatima says and takes the child and carries it away.
Fatima scolds some children who were crying. He goes to whip them and Annalise grabs his arm. Sinbad stood beside her.
"Fatima... Could you let me handle this?" Sinbad asks.
"Do what you want." Fatima says and walks away.
"Listen up. You guys are already slaves." Sinbad says, "Slaves are property. As things they can be bought and sold and would no longer have any human rights. So you need to... be quiet, behave and be good children." Sinbad explains to them, "If you can be good children, there won't be any reason to whip you. If you keep your body unscarred, then you can be bought by someone from a good place. You might even catch the of my Master, Lady Maader." Annalise looks away as Sinbad continues. Neither one had acted like themselves since before they came to this awful place.
"You don't want to be hurt even more than you already are, right?" Sinbad asks and the children nod. They quiet down and line up.
"Those slaves are just going to be shipped out... It would be easier to just whip them." Fatima whispers.
"No, because they're just going to be shipped out, it wouldn't. If you scar them, that only lowers their market value. There's no reason for us to harm Lady Maader's merchandise based solely on our judgement." Sinbad says, "Besides, instead of creating slaves that only take orders when they're whipped, it's better to create slaves that can thing for themselves. They will be worth more and should be easier to control."
"Hey! Are you saying that my way of doing things is wrong?" Fatima asks as he goes to grab Sinbad. Annalise steps in the way.
"It's just the truth." Sinbad says.
"What the hell did you say?! Move it girl!" Fatima says and a clapping sound is heard.
"Wonderful. You really thought things through, Sinbad." Maader says.
"Lady Maader!" Fatima says.
"It seems like the job of head slave suits you. As expected, it was a good idea to leave it to you." Maader says.
"Lady Maader! It was me! I taught him everything! I did!" Fatima says. Lady Maader ignores Fatima and goes right to Sinbad and Annalise. Annalise steps back in shock as she didn't want to look like she was about to kick Fatima.
"The slaves we send to the marketplace are my children, too. Let's adopt your method of helping those children understand their future. Keep doing your best for me, Sinbad and Annalise will remain here with you." Maader says.
"Yes, ma'am." Sinbad says.
"Uh... Um... Lady Maader?" Fatima asks.
"Oh? Fatima." Maader says, "You're still here? I didn't notice you." Fatima's eyes widen in shock.
"You really are good children. I'll come see you again, Sinbad." Maader says before walking away.
"Everyone! Lady Maader gave us an order. Refrain from using your whip unless it's absolutely necessary." Sinbad says.
"Our job's gotten a lot easier since Sinbad became the head slave." A guy says.
"I thought he was a weird guy as first, but he's really got some talent." Another guy says. Fatima couldn't believe that he was getting ignored by everyone like he didn't exist.
Annalise walks with Sinbad and she looks over at Masrur. She heads over to him.
"Masrur! You're covered in blood. Are you alright?" Annalise asks.
"Fine." Masrur says.
"Wait, it's all your opponent's blood, huh? Wait a minute and I'll get you cleaned up." Annalise says.
"I heard that since my appearance in the arena, your matches have gotten more extreme with giant monsters as your opponents, but... this is really something." Sinbad says as he passes Annalise a towel for Masrur. She wipes him off as she stares down at him.
"Aren't you tired of it?" Sinbad asks and Masrur's eyes widen.
"I would be... Fighting for your life every day, covered in blood, not knowing which of you will survive, and putting all of it on display... You're definitely getting strong, but... you're still a child. Aren't you really tired of doing something like this?" Annalise whispers and Masrur nods.
"I see..." Sinbad says, "Well then, I'll ask Lady Maader and see if you can stop being a gladiator. It's all right. If you become Lady Maader's child, I'm sure you can stop right away." Sinbad smiles at Masrur and Annalise looks at Sinbad. Her eyes glimmer in shock as she realizes for the first time since they got there why he really lost. It was for this boy. She looks at Masrur. Masrur grabs his sword and walks away.
"Hey! Where are you going? Don't you want to stop being a gladiator?" Sinbad asks.
"I am a Fanalis. I'll do the job I'm given. I'll obey orders. But I won't throw away my pride. Because I'm a proud Fanalis!" Masrur says and Annalise's eyes widen. She looks back at Sinbad after Masrur is gone and she slaps him across his face.
"W-What was that for?" Sinbad asks.
"That's for not telling me." Annalise says and Sinbad looks away from her.
"I thought you hated me." Sinbad says.
"I understand why you are doing this now." Annalise says, "Thank you." Sinbad looks down.
"We should... get back." Sinbad says and walks away as she follows.

The Errant Otherworlder Watanabe
“In this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death, taxes and trucks whom transport men to other worlds.” Meet our titular protagonist Haruto Watanabe, a man who has all the markings of a good protagonist for a generic portal fantasy story. As an overworked office worker, to escape from the grips of crippling capitalist alienation, he had taken up to reading many stories where young men like him were transported to other worlds and enjoyed their lives at a most leisurely pace. Armed with genre-awareness and (what he believes to be) a marketable personality which would make him an easy audience self-insert, he longed for the day the isekai express would take him to his long-awaited adventure to another world. When the fateful day came, where the fair yet harsh mistress that is the fabled truck took Watanabe on one last date to the other side, he was most ready to escape his previous life, ready to embark on an errant so great he’d be most overpowered, his heroics so exceptional and his harem so vast that they would barely fit ten or twenty volumes of an overly long novel made by a desperate author looking for quick cash. Lo and behold however, Watanabe instead found himself in a low fantasy world which lacked severely in the department of any game-like systems, cheat skills or easily charmed damsels in distress. In a setting so antithetical to his established genre savviness or any attempts at power fantasy, how will a man like Watanabe, lacking in strength, wits and courage, manage to survive in a land most foreign to him? This is my first time trying to share to the wider world what I’ve written, and I hope you’ll enjoy reading the errantry of Watanabe as much as I enjoy writing about them. I'll be posting one chapter per week on Sundays, along with extra chapters whenever I get the chance to write more than usual.

The Pharaoh's Dancer
"Do you know what to do, Amunet?" A voice as sweet as silk whispered into the young girl's ear. Amunet didn't look over her shoulder, but shifted uncomfortably on her bare feet before nodding her head. A soft hand touched her back and urged her forward. All eyes turned towards the girl dressed in transparent linen with her dark hair tumbling down her back and her violet eyes lined by kohl. Every movement caused the jewels on her wrists and ankles to dangle and shimmer in the light. She raised her head and found the Pharaoh's transfixed stare. His jade eyes narrowed in on hers and the room became still and silent. Amunet bowed and, at the pluck of a harp string, began to dance.---cover by @AddietayDoes contain reference to some mature themes that may not be suited for a younger audience.
