《12:22》twenty-three

I began to walk to my building after Alisha had dropped me off, knowing that there's a possibility he would be here today.

But I wasn't going to think about that, today was great so far and I'm not gonna let thoughts of a man who couldn't care less about me, ruin it.

I stepped into the building, feeling the air conditioner hit my bare legs. I was wearing tight black miniskirt, a white button down and a cropped blazer over top.

After checking in, I headed up to my office. I adjusted the temperature in my room and got to work, emailing a couple files of designs to co workers.

A couple hours later, I grew tired. I laid back in my chair shutting my eyes closed.

My phone begins to ring and it startles me, I open my eyes and reach for it. Receiving the call and putting it up to my ear.

"Yeah Sarah what is it?" I asked, getting up and putting a binder back in one of my glass shelves.

"Do you know..? Um, well someone he keeps-"

"What?"

"Someone said he needs to talk to you- he keeps asking if he can come up."

I sigh, "Tell him I'm in a meeting so I can't talk to him."

"Ma'am-"

"Just tell him to leave." I hang up, setting my work phone down.

I knew who it was, although we worked at the same place it wasn't necessary for him to come here. He's doing this on purpose.

Just when I thought I'd gotten him to leave, I hear a knock at the door and spot him through the glass door which I can be seen through as well. Fuck. Now I can't act like I'm not in here.

I headed to the door and opened it, my eyes meeting those of the man that I'd argued with three days prior.

He appeared the same as he usually did with the slight smirk on his face that couldn't be wiped off. I didn't know what to say to him but luckily he spoke before I did.

"Meeting, yeah? When did you start lying to your boss?" He asks, slowly walking me backwards so my back hit the desk behind me.

I crossed my arms over my chest, scoffing. "Just because your dad owns this company doesn't make you my boss."

"Why are you even here?" I asked, stepping away from him so I was cleaning my desk.

"To work." He rasps, meeting my gaze, I bring my gaze to the floor looking back up at him a couple seconds later.

I ignore his words and walk out of my office, walking into another room, handing a co-worker a handful of papers.

"These should be presented at the next meeting, and remember to use the slideshow I emailed you last week." I inform him.

"Thank you ma'am- Good morning, Mr Vernice." Suddenly Jack's tone of voice becomes more frightened and his face pales, I realize Ronan is a couple steps behind me.

"Morning." His deep voice startles me from behind.

"What are you doing here sir?" Jack asks him.

"Helping out my favorite employee, she sure is doing her job right." He puts a hand on my lower back and I freeze, he lowers his head and turns so he's looking at me, "Isn't that so?"

I almost stop breathing but I contain myself, clearing my throat. "So yeah, next board meeting. Don't forget." I tell him, then walk out of the room.

I leave the meeting room and start walking faster, when I turn he's not following anymore so I let out a sigh of relief.

I head back to my office and the doors open again behind me and I see the face that I didn't want to see.

He's sitting in my office chair.

"You haven't left yet?" I sigh, "What is it that you want?"

He doesn't reply, he just laughs, which is short lived before he picks up something on my desk.

Once I come to the realization that the item in his hands is in fact a journal, one I definitely don't want him to read. I walk towards him, now standing in front of his chair, reaching my hands out so he gives it back to me.

"Give it back." I demand, my sudden tone of voice changing but still remaining monotone.

He stands up and doesn't say anything, lifting the journal up so he could read it and I couldn't reach.

I'm practically on my tippy toes as I reach for it and he continues to raise it higher, he smirks. This is clearly amusing to him.

He starts to walk, then walks around my office seeing how I follow him around for it back.

I take it back from his grip and he lets the journal go, "Are you done?"

I look at him through my lashes while my back is against a wall and his face is close to mine, his gaze falls down to my lips and then to my eyes.

"Stop- stop doing that." I say, my eyes scan over the features on his face.

"Who was he?" He questions, i know exactly what he's talking about as he asks.

"No one, why are you asking?" I push him so he's not trapping me against the wall anymore.

"He's an asshole." He states as I begin to put back on my blazer and take my bag to leave.

I rolled my eyes and scoffed, "Since when are you not an asshole?"

"How do you know him?" He follows me out as I go down the stairs to leave the building, I quickly wave to the receptionist and she waves back.

"Alisha introduced me to him?"

He only watched me as I replied, "I'll drop you off." He opens the door for me as I get in while he does from the other side, starting the car.

I don't talk to him the entire car ride and neither does he, I caught him glancing over a few times but I didn't pay attention to it.

We arrive to the front of my place and I turn to him. I attempt to get out of the car and he pulls me back by my wrist.

"What are you doing?" My brows furrow.

"I showed up to apologize. And I couldn't do it, so I'm doing it now. Inez, I'm so fucking sorry for everything."

He lets go of my wrist and pulls a small box out, dropping it in my right palm.

I open the small box to find a locket, it didn't exactly look like the one my sister gave me that I always wear. It was gold just like mine but instead it had an intricate floral design engraved all around.

"Is this an apology gift?" I ask, he gives me a confused look.

I catch him off guard by leaning in and wrapping my arms around him while he does the same after a couple seconds, dropping something from his hand. It lasts about thirty seconds before I pull back.

"I can't accept this." I say, attempting to give it back to him but he refuses.

He scoffs as he takes the necklace out of the box and unhooks it, he leans closer to my back so I feel the warmth of his body behind me. His cold ring-laced hands go around my collarbone as he puts it on me.

"You don't have to wear it."

"No. It's okay, thank you. It's beautiful, Ronan." I thank him, trying not to reveal the excitement in my voice.

He actually smiles this time, the prominent dimple on the right side of his mouth showing as he does so.

"This doesn't mean I forgive you." I replied.

"Yeah?"

I nodded and got out of his car, pulling down my skirt.

"Goodnight Hernandez."

He drove away after saying those words and I smiled, why am I smiling?

Does this mean we're cool? Are we friends again or is he going to continue to ignore me like he does?

I looked down at his gift around my neck and stared at it in awe as I walked into the building and waited for the elevator.
