《12:22》four

It's five pm on a Saturday evening and I'm working, not sure why I took this job in the first place but here we are.

I got it two years ago to pay my student loan which is payed off by now but I still choose to work here.

Not sure if it's the environment, people, the appearance but the way I've felt about it has never changed, something about it makes me want to stay.

Keep working here, even if I decide to hate it one day.

I just like it because I do, it's a library and cafe built into one why wouldn't I?

I've probably read most of the books here as well.

August is here with me, as usual.

I met him through work actually, and then I found out that he was also friends with Alisha so we all started hanging out together and became close.

Right now we're just organizing the books in an orderly fashion, putting them were they should be.

"Can we hang out at your place after this?" He asked, handing me a large stack of romance novels to put back.

"I'm picking the movie." I stated.

"No." He denied.

"Why not?" I put the books in the shelf one by one, next to one another.

"It means we'll have to watch those terrible vampire movies for the billionth time." He starts, "Those movies are ass." He blatantly lies.

I sighed in annoyance, rolling my eyes. "They are not."

I stack the books above of the short shelf, on top of one another.

"Whatever helps you sleep at night." He walks over to the register, getting a hold of his water bottle, and screwing the cap off. He tilts his head to let the liquid fall into his mouth.

I stacked a few books closer together, setting them in the donation box.

"How could you not like the Twilight movies?"

"You only like them because of Robert Pattinson." He states, handing me another book as I lock the glass display.

I let out a small gasp, "That is so not true, you clearly haven't read the books." I say as I throw my brown bag over my shoulder.

He follows behind as I leave, locking the door and making my way to my apartment.

Luckily it wasn't that far of a walk there, which is also another reason I chose to work here.

We stand in front of the apartment door and Alisha opens it before I even had the chance to knock, catching me off guard.

"You guys are here!" She pulls us into a tight hug and we step inside, I slip off my sandals and sit on the patterned carpet.

The doorbell rings again, August opening the door and welcoming Jackson inside, locking it this time.

In his hands was a small brown cat, August looks at him confused but then the cat hisses at him so he flinches and quickly backs away from it.

Jackson wears a loose fitted white t-shirt and grey sweatpants, his small tattoos on his arm showing, he sits by me on the carpet while running a hand through his curls.

"What are we watching?" He asks me, holding the small brown cat from the bottom.

"Ask them, they don't want me choosing."

I glance over at Alisha and August who stood by the counter, Alisha struggling to get the pack of the microwavable popcorn at the top of the refrigerator.

She finally gets a hold of it, nearly dropping it but before she did August took it from her, unwrapping the plastic over it.

"You literally can't seem to do this yourself." He says, folding the popcorn packet open and opening the microwave with a hand.

"I could've if you didn't take it from me." She says.

He sighs, "Shut up."

The microwave beeps, seeming that the popcorn was done, August takes it out.

I grab the remote to turn on the tv, but then Alisha snatches it away from me, sitting right above me, on the couch.

"See." I say, Jackson smiles in amusement.

"You brought the cat?" Alisha asks.

He nods in response, "Yes."

Jackson got his cat Autumn about a year ago, we all decided on the name because he couldn't think of one himself.

He didn't regret having us choose it since Autumn was a nice name, I'm sure if it wasn't he would've picked a different name.

We picked it because when he got Autumn, it was during fall, however August shared that "fall" would be a terrible name.

Of course the rest of agreed, settling on Autumn.

A couple seconds later, August sits next to Alisha, setting down the big bowl full of popcorn on the coffee table.

"How come you guys are here early?" Alisha asks us.

"Our shift ended quicker than usual." August speaks up.

I shoot him a glare, nodding.

"Ah."

"Guys, what movie?" Alisha asks, while scrolling through the options on tv. She stares at the Twilight movies for a minute but quickly scrolls away from it when I notice.

"If you can't choose yourself why take it from me?" I sigh in annoyance.

"I don't fucking know." She throws the remote to Jackson and he catches it, looking through.

Autumn crawls into my arms, laying on my lap. I run a hand through her dark brown fur, caressing it.

"Do you guys wanna watch 10 Things I Hate About You?" Jackson questions us, the option selected to the movie he just mentioned.

"I love that movie." Alisha comments.

I nod in response, watching Autumn run off my lap.

Jackson puts it on, the starting credits beginning to play as I watched the tv screen.

"Is that the main character?" August points to the blonde girl in the car.

"Yes."

"You haven't seen this movie?" Alisha turns to him, stunned.

"No."

"Why not?"

"I didn't think it would be entertaining." He states.

"It is." Alisha argues.

They discuss for a minute, arguing on about the movie. I ignore them, still watching it.

Autumn comes back into my lap, closing her eyes this time. I notice the how she opens and closes them a few times before closing them permanently.

I pet the top of her head as she lays on her back.

Everyone's left by now except Alisha, she's sleeping her room but I still can't get myself to.

My eyes fixate on the ceiling above me and it starts spinning slightly, I blink four times, closing them for a while before my vision gets back to normal.

My phone starts ringing, I bring my hand towards the nightstand by me. I receive the call, not looking at the number.

I sit up on my bed, leaning my back on the headboard behind me.

Expecting it to be one of those spam calls, I almost hang up but then hear a familiar raspy voice through the screen.

"Elijah? Don't fucking hang up on me again-"

"This isn't Elijah." I denied. "Inez." I correct, "I think you might've gotten the wrong number."

He stays silent for a couple seconds, "Hernandez?" He asks, he sounds like he's reading off of something.

"Yes, last time I checked that's my name thanks for confirming." I stated in a sarcastic tone.

He doesn't say anything.

"Why are you calling someone this late?" I ask out of curiosity.

"None of your business."

"Not just calling, you were yelling at them! I basically saved your friend because you dialed the wrong number." I whisper talk.

"You're getting on my fucking nerves."

"Why are you even awake yelling at a girl that you don't know?" I bring up, ignoring his rude comments.

He sighs, "You ask a lot of questions for a girl who doesn't know me."

"You're staying on a call a long time with a girl that you don't know." My voice lowers.

I hear him scoff, "Mmm." He hums.

"Don't yell at Elijah, bye." I instructed, hanging up as soon as I said so.
