A/N it'd be really nice to know if you people like this story, so I know if this story is actually not a waste of time.
"What do you mean?"
"You have a rare blood type. You smell better than the other humans. Since we can't have you, we want you. People want what they can't have." Zayn explained.
"But why did that guy ask for you guys?"
"I guess word got out that we had found The Blood Rose, which is what humans like you are called. He probably figured wherever we are, you are." Liam spoke this time. We all sat down on the couch, me laying across all of their laps. My head was in Harry's lap as he stroked my hair and I looked up into his green eyes.
"But, you guys can't constantly protect me. What if a vampire comes after me and harms the other humans I love.?"
"Are you going to stay and take that chance of hurting them permanently from which they can't recover, or are you going to temporarily hurt them by leaving to keep them safe?" Harry's voice vibrated against my head. I felt tears swelling in my eyes, but I knew he was right.
"How am I going to leave? I need a plan." I stated. They all gave me a sad but encouraging smile as we planned our little adventure.
*****
The brakes screeched as the car pulled to a stop several streets away from my house. I got out with the boys and we all began to walk towards the house.
"We'll be retrieving items from your room. If you need us, just give us a shout." Louis informed me. I nodded, my stomach a twisting pit of doom, filled to the brim with nerves.

"Gwen, it's okay... You'll be saving them." Harry rubbed my back and I nodded.
I stopped in front of my front door. I glanced at the boys and they nodded, then disappeared. I took a deep breath and pushed the unlocked door open. It squeaked as it always did and I stepped in. My shoes caused the wooden floorboards to creak under my feet. I pulled my coat off and hung it on a hook and trudged into the main room. It was empty and dark. I listened for any noise, but no one was there, except for the sets of feet in my room above me.
"Hello?" I called out.
No answer came. I had a freaking heart attack when I looked over and Liam was right next to me.
"Gwen, are you okay? I smell blood..."
"I'm fine, but-"
"Well, someone has gotten a lot of blood in this house. Follow me." I took his hand as he led me down my maze of hallways and corridors until he stopped in the bathroom. I froze. I have a small phobia thing to do with bathrooms. Too many scary movie scenes take places in there.
Liam gently squeeze my hand in reassurance. He took and handle of the door and slowly twisted it. The door slowly swung open, but before I could look at the scene, the door quickly swung shut again.
"Liam, what?"
"Boys!" He called. They all flashed into the room and I saw him whisper something quietly to them. Damn my crappy human senses.
Their eyes widened and they all stared at me.
"What?" I asked.
"Should we let her see?" Zayn asked, dragging a hand through his hair.
"No!" The other four shouted immediately.
"See what?" I questioned.

"She has a right to see!"
"See what?" I repeated.
Niall took me by the shoulders,"Do you want to see the horrendous scene in the bathroom?"
"I... I guess..."
I felt every one of the boys give me some sort of reassurance and support as the bathroom door swung open.
I couldn't take it in. My mind rejecting the scene. Blood. Blood on the walls. Blood on the floor. Blood on the sinks. I saw a dark shape hidden behind the shower curtain. I pointed at it and Liam wearily went to check it out. I saw him peak behind the curtain, then he gasp. We all waited for an answer, but he shook his head, telling us we didn't want to know.
"Who's blood is this?" I whispered. "Who did this?"
"It's your family's blood." Harry whispered.
"A vampire did this. Guys, look at the mirror."
We did, and there were words written in my family's blood.
"Give Gwen to me or I will slaughter more humans and dismantle their corpses and you guys right before her eyes." I tremor rolled down my back and my knees gave out. Louis pulled me up into his arms as sobs ripped my body apart.
My family. They were dead. It was all my fault. Why couldn't I just die when the shooter attacked? Why was I still alive when they werent? My mom and two cousins were dead now, because of me. I didn't have a dad or siblings. Just two younger twin boys as my cousins. I sobbed loudly and shook uncontrollably while Louis carried me away from the horrible place. I had to leave and go to those people. I couldn't let them kill others. I deserved to be dead, not them. I buried my face in Louis's shirt as he carried me out to the car and I pondered my very existence and point in life.
I was shaking majorly. I was shaking so much that the world was vibrating around me. The sobs ripped through me as I wailed, releasing the animal locked up inside of me.
Why did I ever attack that man? Why did I choose that seat? Why didn't I die instead of my family? I could've saved them. I could've sacrificed myself in their place. I would've stopped that bastard who took my family. I would've hugged them one last time.
My tears waterfalled down my face as I soaked Louis's shirt. He stroked my hair and tried to pacify me, but I couldn't understand him through the wails that were loud enough to wake the dead.
I felt the car come to life under my feet as we left my family's tomb. I felt multiple hands touching my face and rubbing my back, but my wails continued to fill the car. I felt someone cup their hand on my cheek and I felt Liam nod to them.
I began to feel tired. I could barely keep my eyes open. The stroking of hands and the humming of the boys mixed in with the car's gentle movement was lulling me quickly to sleep. I fought against it, though.
"Shhhh, Gwen, don't fight it." I heard Niall whisper next to me. I did as he said and I welcomed the tiredness with open arms. I fell into a deep sleep as the tears continued to stream down my face.

Tower of Somnus
When humanity first encountered alien life, we were judged and found wanting. The Galactic Consensus interviewed our leaders and subjected us to a battery of psychological tests to determine our progress as a society. They found us to be selfish, wasteful, impulsive, and boorish neighbors. Earth was blockaded and our collective encounter with our extrasolar neighbors rapidly faded from memory. All they left behind was a hypercomm relay and a handful of subscriptions to a massively multiplayer game that participants played in their sleep. The Consensus said that it would let us interact with our neighbors in a controlled setting. That it would teach us to be better members of the galactic community. The megacorporations that controlled Earth ignored the game until they learned that the powers earned from clearing dungeons were just as real when day broke. Magic, supernatural abilities and rumors exploded from nothing and a subscription to The Tower of Somnus became a status symbol. Katherine ‘Kat’ Debs doesn’t have much, but it could be worse. Born in an arcology, she was assigned a job in the megacorporation that raised her almost as soon as she could work. Despite the stability of her corporate life, she wanted something more. A chance that wouldn’t come naturally to someone as familiar with dark alleyways and the glint of steel as she was with office work and corporate niceties.Book One is up on Kindle Unlimited as of 7/6/22 - https://www.royalroad.com/amazon/B0B2X3L8H5

He slowly backs up until his back is against the wall like my own, "You're..my neighbor?" He points to my door and I nod my head quickly. He hums softly, "You been here a while?" He asks and I nod my head once again. He chuckles, "Ya head hurt?" I nod again but stop as he laughs softly, "I-I mean.. no.. it doesn't." My cheeks burn red as I look at my shoes, "I-It doesn't hurt.." I repeat like a dummy and listen to him clear his throat, "So do you actually live there or was it bull?" He nods to my door and I play with my fingers, "Yeah.. I do.." I feel his eyes watch me and I quickly stop. "You live with your boyfriend or do you like sweatshirts that reach your knees?" He teased, making a giggle slip past my lips. I look away to the floor again, "I-I like big shirts... a lot." I mumble softly and he nods his head, "Hol' up." He puts his box down before walking over to one of the grey bins. I nosily watch as he pulls out a big grey sweatshirt, "Here." He holds it out for me to take and I stare at him with wide eyes, "F-For me?" I hesitantly grab the soft fabric as he chuckles, "Nah for ya mom." I puff my cheeks a little and give him a small glare, "Hush." He leans back against the wall and shakes his head, "It's cold out. You should put it on." ____________________________She was a shy girl from the city with no spine and a list of problems so long that it could touch the floor and roll off her shoes.
