《Silence is Suicide.》Chapter Three

Silence is Suicide.
Chapter Three.
I glanced at the clock. The dull, green numbers flickered "3:47." My seven year old sister, Kimmi, was going to get off the bus and bounce through the doors in about eight minutes. I slowly climbed out of my bed and cautiously tip-toed into the living room.
My monster of a mother was passed out on the floor with an unlit cigarette in her fragile, weak hand. I gulped and hesitantly walked over to where she laid on the floor. I checked for breathing and a pulse. She had both. With quick, nimble fingers, I pulled the cigarette out from her hand and into my own pocket.
I hurried back to my room. I grabbed my half dead, ugly, old cell phone and texted my grandmother.
"Please come pick up Kimmi." I sent her.
"What's wrong?" she replied quickly. I'm assuming she had that text in her "Quick Text" dictionary because it's used so frequently.
I typed the magic word, "Mom." and I knew my grandmother would pick little Kimmi up in a heartbeat.
I walked into Kimmi's room to begin packing her clothes. Almost all of her things were pink. I didn't know how long she would be at our grandparent's house, so I packed her a week's worth of things. I picked up her bag full of things and her favorite pink stuffed bunny I gave her when she was just a baby. I quietly walked through the living room and waited outside on the cold porch, waiting for my sister.
It's very sad that she's used to these kinds of things. I don't think she fully understands what's happening. No child should ever have to go through with this.
My sister trudged home, barely able to move in her snow suit. "Hi Emerson!" she started to run, which looked more like a bounce, when she saw me.

She tackled me for a hug then pulled away. "Why are you outside?" she asked with a confused expression.
I pulled the small notepad i always carried with me from my pocket. "Waiting for grandma." I scratched on the paper, "You're staying with them for awhile."
Her baby blue eyes looked up at me in confusion. I pulled her close to me and hugged her. I brushed some of her naturally curly hair, blond hair away from her face.
"You're coming too, right?" I heard her muffled voice say.
I shook my head, no.
"Why not, Emerson?"
Then, my grandmother's silver Buick pulled into the driveway. I took Kimmi's small hand and lead her to the car.
"Come along, Kimmi." my grandmother said taking her things and putting them in the trunk. My grandmother didn't bother to acknowledge me.
Kimmi's small hand waved me good-bye from the back window as the car drove away down the street.

Double-Blind: A Modern LITRPG
Choosing a college when your family is struggling can be difficult, but it isn’t supposed to be world ending. And the falling meteor is seriously limiting Matt’s options. Now in the aftermath, his home city is locked down by a mysterious dome, corporations are looking to monopolize a wealth of new untapped resources, and people are suddenly developing powers via a system that seems to have borderline sinister intentions. In the chaos, he decides to stick to what he knows: stay out of the spotlight, grind, and survive. Watch as Matt is dragged into a dark LITRPG set in the real world, where the price of failure is death, and the prize for winning is beyond his wildest dreams. ++++++++++++++++++ There’s a couple big influences here: Solo-Leveling, Squid Game, and Code Geass. If you enjoy LITRPG stories with morally gray characters, high stakes, and smart protagonists who start weak and eventually become powerful in a unique way, you’ll probably find something to like. But be forewarned. It won’t be easy. I'll be writing this fast, so keep in mind there's likely to be typos that we'll correct as we go. Developmental Editing by Lev.

The General Core {The Sphere}
The life cycle in the Sphere is on the brink of collapse because one of its elements, the Dungeons, have been exploited too much by the mortals. The group who created the Sphere already tried and failed with several modifications, because the original computer-like dungeon cores are too inflexible to handle changing approaches. So they try another type of solution – taking souls from other worlds to try to find a solution before the Sphere Cycle breaks down completely. The General was one of the best soldiers of his world, rising from the ranks of a private through Officer School to the highest command with honors. But when his world faced a zombie apocalypse, even that was not enough and he had to make the ultimate sacrifice. Now he is asked for a repeat performance of planning and controlling a dungeon and its spawns in a world that he knows nothing about… But what is the Sphere really? What is that [Xenotic conversion] he has to go through to even enter the Sphere? Something is really strange and he will have to find out what is going on to get to his promised rewards – whatever they will be. Being a soul in a dungeon core means that the General has better chances of finding hints to the truth about the sphere – a knowledge that would help him survive. And no, the sphere is NOT a virtual reality – the key to its secrets is the place where it was physically constructed (Author’s hint). This is a dungeon core story - but there are quite a number of things that I will do differently than common to those stories. 1) I will describe the floors when they are explored, NOT when they are build. Yes, that will mean it will take longer to get to those parts - but I think describing floors both when they are build and when they are explored destroys quite a lot of chances for suspense when adventurers enter the dungeon. After all, if you as the reader already know where the traps are, then you can't really be surprised when the surfacers encounter them. 2) How the world works (and how not) is an integral part of the story, so it will be explained I'm a world-builder first and the Sphere is NOT a regular world (as hinted in the synopsis above). Things will work differently than in your 08/15 default dungeon core stories - as the General and Gunny have already learned in the second arc (and more of that is already scheduled for the next weeks (July/Aug 2019) when the Sky Arrows continue to explore and evaluate that strange dungeon) If you don't like these premises, then I'm sure you'll find a lot of other Dungeon Core stories more to your liking. But if you are interested in more than "Dungeon builds another room and corridor in medieval earth" and are not afraid of a longer and slower story, then go on. I have two more stories in the Sphere, although they both have lower priority than this one: Shaleen the Wanderer (Adventurer, NSFW) (currently on hold after some chapters) Info's on the Sphere (System Docu and Short Stories) (irregular updates when needed) Current Status reports have been moved to a new discord server: https://discord.gg/EaHkXCfm9y
