THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH FOR 100,000 READS LIKE WHAT??? I can't even comprehend that number. When I picked this story up again I thought 1,000 reads was unattainable, nothing more than a dream. But here I am, I got to 100K and my story isn't even completed yet. I have the most amazing readers, all of your comments and messages mean the world to me and I couldn't have done any of this without you all. Thank you :)
"Come on, come on!! Let's go!" Lucas had a dorky smile engulfing his face, his eyes full of excitement and wonder.
He tugged on the edge of the short sleeve of my maroon collared shirt. It was lightweight and I kept it unbuttoned, wearing a black tee underneath it which was tucked into my black jeans, all held up by a belt.
Lucas practically dragged me to the entrance of the park, causing me to trip several times and my heavily worn-out black combat boots weren't helping.
I couldn't help but smile back at his reaction. Cute.
We stumbled up to the ticket booth just outside of the front gates. Lucas and I stood at the back of the line with a couple of groups in front of us. It was unsurprisingly crowded since it was a Saturday and Summer was about to start, meaning that the weather was nice.
Lucas was practically shaking with anticipation, bouncing up and down in his sneakers.
"Happy birthday, Lucas," I snickered sarcastically.
"Oh shut up," he rolled his eyes. "You're the one that suggested we come here."
"True," I laughed, "I thought you might like it so I wanted to see your reaction. I think it was worth it. You have no idea how adorable you look right now," I cooed.
A light blush coated his cheeks. He was wearing a dark grey graphic tee with a square image of Gon and Killua. It was tucked into his belt and ripped black jeans that had several chains dangling from the waist and rings placed on a number of his fingers.
"Oh? Getting shy, are we?" I teased.
"Fuck off, just let me be excited," Lucas huffed as he rolled his eyes.
I snickered at his reaction as the redness in his face disappeared.
We finally got to the front of the booth and we were met with the monotone voice of a teenage looking girl with her black hair in two thick braids and a hideous candy stripe uniform. If I was wearing that I'd sound dead inside too.
She didn't look up as her voice echoed through the small intercom, "Hi, I hope you're having a wonderful morning. What can I get for you today?" There was no emotion in the tan woman's voice.
"Hi," Lucas beamed. "Can I please get two fast pass tickets?" He pulled out his wallet and held onto his card, waiting for a reply.
"Two fast passes?" She confirmed. "That'll be $25 each, so a total of $50 including tax."
"Here," Lucas handed her his card.
"Can I see your ID?"
"Sure," Lucas pulled his card out of his wallet and showed it to her.
It was the first time she had looked up, but when she saw his image her eyes widened in recognition. "Y-you're Lucas Beck?" She stammered, her monotonous voice now gone.
"Yes?" Lucas answered coyly, rubbing the back of his neck.
Her eyes then darted to me, becoming impossibly bigger. The bored look on her face morphed into one of excitement, "I watched the fight yesterday! It was so amazing!"

"Thanks," I chuckled.
She quickly swiped Lucas' card as she ogled us. The girl gave Lucas the tickets and pointed us toward the gate.
I followed behind Lucas as he rushed in, getting through security as quickly as possible. He looked around in amazement with a goofy smile on his face, like a little kid seeing fireworks for the first time.
"So, birthday boy," I teased, "where to first?"
Lucas just rolled his eyes again. He turned away from me and looked ahead slightly toward his left, "There."
"That one? Are you sure?" I asked, concerned. The ride he was pointing at was probably the biggest one in the park. It had the steepest drop and the most loops.
"Of course! Doesn't it look fun!?"
I laughed, "I mean it does... But you might get sick and I don't want your amusement park fantasy to be ruined so quickly."
"It's fine, I wont get sick. I have a strong stomach," Lucas slapped his abdomen as we started walking toward the attraction.
We went straight past the ridiculously long line on the right and entered the fast pass lane, slowly walking past what seemed like a hundred people about to pass out from heatstroke.
Upon seeing us, some people took out cameras and took pictures or videos from afar. I just ignored them and I followed behind Lucas as we approached the end of the fast pass line.
There were only a couple of people in front of us, "I guess spending the extra money on fast passes was worth it," I mentioned.
"You didn't think I'd make you wait in two hour-long lines for each ride on your birthday, did you?" Lucas asked.
I just shook my head, a big smile on my face. We finally got through the line and made our way to the end of a four-person row at the very front of the ride. The blue clue seats were connected at the top, directly attached to the rail above us as our feet dangled below. We got several glances from the people sitting next to us, but we chose to ignore it.
Lucas was restless, his hands were tapping the part of the seat around his chest that was securing him to the ride, and if our feet could reach the ground, I'm sure his would be bouncing up and down.
I laughed at Lucas as he bit his lip, but it wasn't out of nervousness, it was out of pure elation. "You ready?"
"Very!" There were stars dancing in his eyes.
"Ladies and gentlemen," a worker spoke into the speaker system of the ride, "just a friendly reminder that we are not responsible for the damage or loss of any personal items. Please keep all arms and legs to yourself and enjoy the ride."
I turned my head to look at Lucas as he stared straight ahead, bursting with anticipation. Even as the ride began to move, I couldn't take my eyes off of the boy. The ride began to trek upward, preparing us for the first drop and to get good momentum for the rest of the loops.
The second we got to the top Lucas glanced at me, I had never seen such a bright smile on his face. He began to laugh and then turned his head forward again, trying to soak in the full experience.
And then we dropped.
Lucas let out the most beautiful shout of joy, his smile reaching his ears and tears prickling his eyes from the strong winds.

Even if I hurt my neck, I didn't want to look away. He looked so happy finally getting to experience something that was robbed from him in his childhood.
Loop after loop, his smile only grew, making mine grow just as big. It was definitely worth taking him here for my birthday.
When the ride came to a final stop, Lucas' hair was blown backward, off of his face and his expression was once of shock, "That. Was. So. Fucking. Awesome," he breathed.
I unbuckled my seat and laughed, ruffling Lucas' messed up hair as we walked to the exit.
We walked through the park as the bright sunlight reflected off of our hair, creating a nice shine. The heat was making us both sweat a little. There were kids screaming and laughing in every direction. Occasionally we would pass a toddler crying because they got wet on a ride or someone puking in a trash can near a bathroom. Well, that's the amusement park aesthetic for you.
"So, where to now?" I asked.
"Another roller coaster, of course," Lucas grinned.
And so that is what we did. We spent hours going on ride after ride. I was worried about Lucas being able to handle it at first, but now I'm more worried about myself.
I stumbled off of a ride called Orbit. All it does is basically spin you around in endless circles until you can't even turn your head from the speed of the ride. I was dizzy and couldn't walk in a straight line.
"Oh," Lucas grabbed my arm as I almost face planted into the ground. He placed my hand over his shoulder and practically dragged me to a bench. "Maybe we should take a little break from rides," he innocently scratched his head.
"Yeah," I grunted as I grabbed the bottom of the bench trying to ground myself.
Lucas wrapped his arm around my shoulder and pulled me toward him.
I sent him a glance, asking with my eyes if it was okay to act like this in public. He just shrugged his shoulders.
"Sorry. I guess I got a little carried away," he sighed.
"It's fine," I gave Lucas a smile.
"I mean, it's your birthday but I'm the only one having fun..."
"Stop that," I looked into his green eyes. "I like roller coasters too. I wanted to come here. Sure, maybe I cant handle as much as you can, but seeing your reactions to all of this is good enough for me. I'm okay with puking my guts out later if it means I get to see you on an adrenaline high. I like seeing you smile."
"Thanks," Lucas paused. "I like this. Going on dates with you."
"And if it makes you feel any better, I haven't enjoyed a birthday this much in over a decade."
Lucas snorted, "It's not like it's all that hard to beat your past birthdays, they all sound hella shitty."
"They were, but even if they weren't, this would still be one of my favorites... Because I get to celebrate it with you."
"Ew, why are you being all cheesy. Stop it," Lucas visibly cringed, but the small smile he tried to hide told me that he secretly enjoyed it.
"So, what now?" He asked me.
"Ferris wheel?" I hesitantly asked.
"What, are you gonna ask me out when we get to the top or something?" Lucas joked.
I clamped my mouth shut and didn't say anything.
"W-wait, really? I thought you said it was too cliche."
"Sarah's the one who said it was too cliche," I mumbled. "And no," I started, finding my voice, "I wasn't going to ask you out on the Ferris wheel, I just wanted to do something a little more peaceful and easier on the stomach."
I was totally going to ask him out on the Ferris wheel...
"Sure, sure," Lucas was unconvinced but I just laughed it off.
We sat for a bit longer while I tried to push down my nausea, and when I finally felt okay we began to make our way to the giant ferris wheel.
"Oh... It's closed," I stated as I stared at the sign that said 'under maintenance.'
"Yeah... So what now?" Lucas looked at me.
"Want to get something to eat?" I asked.
I watched as Lucas' eyes shifted his gaze away from me and instead followed a small girl who held a pink stick of cotton candy in her hand. The fluffy sugar was probably bigger than her entire head.
I chuckled as he licked his lips, "Lucas, do you want to go get some cotton candy?"
"I've never had it before..."
"Well, today's your lucky day. First time on a roller coaster and first time having cotton candy," I led him to a nearby stand and took out my wallet, paying for one extra-large blue stick of cotton candy.
Lucas watched in awe as the person working the stand swirled a stick of rolled-up paper around a metal circle filled with sugar. The sugar gradually became fluffy and stringy as it collected around the white paper.
"Woah," He whispered as the man held up the blue cotton candy. "I've never seen it being made before."
I took it out of the worker's hand and turned to Lucas. I pinched a piece off with my fingers, "Say ah," I teased.
Lucas opened his mouth expectantly and I chuckled, placing the blue sugar into his mouth.
He smiled and hummed as the cotton candy melted in his mouth.
"Is it good?" I asked him as I placed some in my own mouth.
"Mhmm," he mumbled, moving to take some more as we walked side by side through the park. "Nothing's sweeter than the taste of pure sugar mixed with food dye."
We strolled through the park, looking at various rides until we came upon a decently sized grass area. We placed ourselves in the shade under a large tree and simply sat in silence as we watched the people around us.
"Hey, Lucas?" I started.
"Yeah?" He replied, shoving a giant chunk of blue sugar into his mouth.
"Go out with me?" I threw the big question out.
"Sure," he replied, not even blinking twice.
"S-sure?" I asked dumbfounded. "That's it?"
Lucas chuckled, "What were you expecting, Kai? We both knew you were going to ask me out today. And not to mention we've practically been dating for months now. We do everything boyfriends do. We hang out every day, we go on dates, we share our troubles and secrets, we have sex," he took another bite. "We're exclusive. Hell, we even live together. The only thing we didn't have was a label."
"I mean yeah, but..." I trailed off.
Lucas quickly looked around, seemingly checking our surroundings. He grabbed my chin and quickly brought his lips to mine and enveloped me in a soft, sweet kiss.
Right as I was falling into it I lightly pushed on his chest and whispered, "What if people see?"
"It's fine, no one's looking," Lucas grinned as he grabbed my hand and laced our fingers together. He moved his head away from mine and took the cotton candy stick out of my other hand, going to bite the last bit with his mouth rather than picking a part off.
We sat under the shade of the large tree, enjoying the peacefulness.
"So, we're boyfriends then..." I stated.
"Yep."
"Okay," I hummed as a warm smile fell on my face. I looked at Lucas and he had the same goofy grin as when we first got here.
My focus was quickly shifted to the ringing of my phone. I pulled the device out of my pocket, answering the call, "Hey, Zay. What's up?"
"Where the hell are you!?" He screamed into the phone, causing me to yank it away from my ear.
"Fuck, you're so loud," I groaned.
"Jack, Sarah, and I are at your place. We wanted to drop some stuff off and celebrate!" He whined.
"We can do that later. I'm on a date," I told him as I looked at Lucas.
"Ugh, fine, loverboy. We'll celebrate tonight?" Zay questioned.
"Uhhh," I stared at Lucas and he mouthed a quick 'What?' "No, not tonight. But you can stop by tomorrow if you want."
"Oh? Ohhh, gotcha. We'll stop by tomorrow. Happy Birthday, man!"
"Thanks, Zay, see ya tomorrow," I hung up the phone and placed it on my lap, moving my head up to see a smirking Lucas.
"Did you have plans for tonight?" He wriggled his eyebrows playfully.
"Well," I shrugged my shoulders. "Depends on if my boyfriend is up for my plans."
He threw his head back in laughter, "My concussion is long gone. I'm more than up for whatever you have in mind for tonight."
A sly smile formed on my face, "You better not take that back later. I want to-" I was cut off by the buzzing of my phone once again.
"Is that Zay?" Lucas asked.
I furrowed my brows, "It's Charlotte."
Lucas' expression mirrored mine. It was one of worry.
"Charlotte?" I asked.
"K-Kai," She was frantically sniffling.
"What's wrong?" My voice was laced with concern.
"I-I was worr-worried, so I t-told my mom an-and she didn't believe-believe me. She's going to tell my dad about ev-everything! I'm scared..."
"Charlotte, what did you tell her exactly?"
"Everything!" She cried, I could barely hear her over the deafening music in the background. "I told h-her what you told me! She-she didn't believe me and n-now she's going to tell d-dad!"
"Why would she tell your dad!?" I asked frantically, unwrapping my hand from Lucas' and clenching it into a tight fist.
"She's-she's mad that I ac-accused him of all those things," Charlotte was sobbing.
"Where are you right now?" I spoke quickly with a hard voice.
"In the car, we're going home right now."
"Charlotte, I'm going to be honest with you because right now you're in a very dangerous situation," I started. Lucas' ground his teeth, tightening his jaw and looking apprehensive.
"When dad finds out that you know, there's a chance he might hurt you or your mom. So I want you to listen very carefully to what I'm about to say, okay?"
"O-okay," she stuttered.
"Do you know how to share your location on your phone?" I questioned.
"Yes," she breathed.
"Okay, good. Do that. Share your location with me. After you've done that, I want you to change my contact name to a girl's name, possibly one of your friends. This will work as a safety net for you if dad goes through your phone. I also want you to make sure you unfollow me on any social media and make sure you delete all of our conversations," I demanded.
"Okay..." I waited until she told me she was done.
"Now what you're going to do is close all of the apps that are open on your phone except for the call app you're in right now. Then I want you to go into your phone settings and make sure you have your battery saver on, and turn your screen brightness all the way down. Put your phone on do not disturb too."
"Kai, I'm scared," she croaked.
"I know. I know. Don't worry. I'm going to take care of this, I promise. After I hang up I want you to close this app on your phone too. Change your password, make it something neither of your parents would be able to guess, something long that you'll still be able to remember. Before you get home you need to hide your phone. It has to be on your person, but somewhere dad can't find it. Not in your jacket or any pockets, put it somewhere he won't search. Don't shut your phone off, but do not check it. Keep it on and locked, but also hidden. Make sure that you don't look at where you're keeping it or touch it under your clothes. Don't adjust it at all, pretend it's not even there."
"Is all of this necessary?" Charlotte's voice was quivering.
I sighed, and let out a shaky breath, "Charlotte, from now on, this phone is your lifeline. It will tell me if you are safe or not. You live by a fire station, my dad wouldn't risk doing anything too bad there. If your location changes, I'll be able to find you. And if it doesn't, then I'll know that you're safe," I explained.
"Do you understand? This is very important," I continued.
"Yes, yes I got it-" The line cut off.
"Fuck!" I jumped up, yelling.
"What happened," Lucas questioned hesitantly.
"Fuck! Charlotte was scared so she spoke to her mom about it, but she didn't believe her. So now her mom's going to confront our dad about it..."
"Shit that bad. Really bad..." Lucas brushed a hand through his hair, now standing next to me. "So, what are we going to do?"
I clenched my jaw, "We end this. I can't hold off any longer. I was going to wait... but now I can't."
"So?" Lucas urged me to continue.
"I would go straight to her house... But if I do that nothings going to change. I need this to be done, once and for all. That means I have to start the next step of my plan... Can you take me to the police station?"
